About Richard

My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!

Richard purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Richard chose Traverse City

I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors

What makes this cottage unique

Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!

Beautiful spot on the river with excellent accomodations!!

I wanted the kids to have the cottage/cabin vacation that I knew as a child. This cottage did not disappoint! It was exactly what I had hoped for. We could hear the river as we drifted off to sleep after a day of kayaking, swimming, fishing, and enjoying the hot tub. We were able to grill on the deck, have bonfires in the fire pit, explore the trails, relax in the hammock and play board games or watch movies at night. You could not ask for a more gracious host than Richard. He gladly transported us and the kayaks to a launch spot. He brought us fish that had been caught in Grand Traverse bay that morning. The locations is great because it is secluded but only a few minutes from Traverse City. The Mayfield General Store has just about anything you might need and is only a couple of miles away. The cottage was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The appliances were in great condition...we could throw in a load of laundry, wash the dishes in a dishwasher, microwave popcorn etc. The pictures do not do this cabin justice! See it for yourself...you will not regret it!

Great secluded get-a-way.

After a very stressful few months workwise my husband and I were ready for a place to relax. This wonderful cottage fit the bill. Secluded and quiet except for the mesmerizing sound of the river flowing by us as we sat on the deck. Enjoyed the hot tub, kayaking the beautiful Boardman River and exploring the Traverse City area. We highly recommend this cottage.

Awesome time!

This place is the ideal place. It feels so secluded and private. Yet it is close enough to traverse city, which has everything you need. The inside of the cottage is clean, roomy, and extremely comfortable. The outside is beautiful. I couldn't have been any happier with this place. I stayed for a week with my husband and three kids. Ages 17, 15, and 11. They had a blast. We had a bonfire every night. We sat in the hot tub out back. They hiked all around the property. My husband fished. We went horse back riding nearby, rented bikes in Traverse city, went to Sleeping bear dunes, laid on the beach, went kayaking, rented jet skis, grilled out, relaxed in the hammocks, and on and on. There is so much to do in this area. I really can't say enough great things about this place. Richard, the owner could not have been nicer. He really does make you feel welcome. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back!

Up North Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
This was by far the best summer vacation I have taken my entire family on. What made this cabin so nice was the tranquil river setting in the country with all the amenities you would expect from a large resort.

From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be fun. The owner had the cabin fully stocked with everything we needed from linens to firewood to wireless Internet and so much more.

Richard is so personable and provided so much more info and more insight to the area than any travelers guide ever could. On one occasion as we were leaving for a trip to the beach I noted to Richard that the coffee creamer was low and when we returned there was a brand new creamer waiting on me, and the level of great customer service just kept getting better and better.

So if you're looking for a super clean well maintained family friendly cabin in the woods that is within 15 minutes of Traverse City look no further and book this rental now! We will for sure be returning. Thanks!!!!! Joe A.

Awesome time

We went on a recent family vacation to Traverse City, MI and stated at this Cabin. It was my first family vacation after my marriage so we wanted to keep it low key and relaxing. Richard is very accommodating and a great host. The Cabin was extremely clean and very well maintained. The pictures on the site do it justice. Overall, I would highly recommend this cabin for a family vacation.

Great get away!!

  • 5 of 5
Richard has this place set up amazingly. Me, my wife and two friends stayed 3 nights. Even though the weather was a little cold the wood burning stove in the main room made us all warm and happy. This is great place on the river, and only 15 min from downtown TC! We will be going back, maybe even this fall.
