My family absolutely loves the outdoors and we also live on the Boardman River down stream. We enjoy kayaking, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. We take our two dogs for long hikes on the state land while looking for new exciting finds that the woods have to offer. We are also excited to share this with others who share our passion for the outdoors. This cottage is a unique place!
Richard purchased this cottage in 2012
I purchased this property quite honestly because I have been here most of my life and I have found it to be in one of the best locations in the area. I love the outdoors but like the fact that I can be in Traverse City quickly with a beautiful drive to get there. The wildlife, fresh air, and of course the Boardman river being steps away, well you just can't beat it. I see all types of birds , deer, fox, partridge, well it goes on and on. Truly it has all the flavor of the now well known 'Pure Michigan.' And how about the Fall Colors
Wildlife including: deer, turkeys, partridge, rabbits, bobcats, and ducks. Birdwatching: Piliated woodpeckers, eagles, hawks, owls, hummingbirds, and orioles. Hiking, fourwheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. Beautiful view of river. Kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming. And lets not forget the fall colors! Also we have the Chery festival in July, the Horse show in July, and the Film festival after that!
We recently spent a long weekend at this property and had an awesome time. Three couples stayed and had a fabulous time at the property, traverse city and surrounding areas. The property is private, on the river and very, very clean. The sound of the river flowing and leaves falling made the perfect setting for relaxing and enjoying a wonderful fall weekend in upper Michigan. Richard was great - very responsive and interested in ensuring our stay was perfect. The cabin was well stocked and offered great views of the river. Richard has the wood stove and fire pits full of wood upon our arrival so that we could simply strike a match and enjoy the warmth and comfort of a wood fire. The property is only 20 minutes from Traverse City so you can be in the country while at the cabin and in a short time enjoy the many benefits of city life. I highly recommend this property. One thing to consider; to gain entry to the cabin you need to climb some stairs so if you have physical limitations you should talk with Richard for details on the stairs. Otherwise, great location and great place equal a great vacation!
This tranquil home is nestled across a river and within the trees. The views from any angle of this home are breathtaking. We were there in mid fall and the colors were just fantastic. The Hot tub is conveniently located out the back door of the house and was already warmed up when we arrived. Richard, the owner, had ensured everything we would need was there and ready to be used. Now, there wasn't food, but everything else was. From dishes, silverware, glasses, pots, pans, water filter jugs, coffee machine's, towels, blankets, and even enough firewood to have a fire every night for a week. This home come highly recommended, as it should be.
This was a nice weekend getaway for us. The cabin is in a nice location, gives you that feeling of being secluded and alone even though you do have neighbors close by. The cabin was clean and suited our needs perfectly. The weather didn't cooperate with us at all that entire weekend which kept us indoors more so than we had planned, making it hard to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Probably the best for us though as we have a very active 2yr old. We would definitely would like to go back, maybe when our little one is alittle bigger and we don't have to worry so much about him finding his way into the river!
Four longtime friends recently retired and decided to celebrate with a girls' color-tour getaway. Beautiful location with nice amenities like fireplace, firepit, and hot tub. It's only a 20-minute drive to downtown Traverse City, so we also visited the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas. Great three days! Just make sure to get good directions to the cottage in advance--it's on a private road and doesn't show up on mapping apps.
This was our second trip to Richard's property and it will definitely not be our last. Richard could not be a more gracious host to his guests. He personally welcomed us back to his rental and had fresh vegetables in the refrigerator waiting for us as well. The property is in great condition and we wanted for nothing! Richard also offers to transport renters up river and drop them off with his kayaks if they desire to kayak the Boardman River. The tranquility and isolation of this property are its greatest features. I cannot recommend this property enough to anyone wishing to get away from the hustle bustle of daily live and get back to nature. We will hopefully return next summer for a longer duration. Thanks Richard!!
My girlfriends and I stayed at this wonderful location at the end of September, can not get over the view! It was beautiful seeing the Boardman River flow through the property. Lots of beautiful trees and landscaping. The cottage itself was super cute and quaint, very cozy and clean! We will definitely stay again for another girl's weekend! We met Richard, the owner and he was such a nice guy and made us feel welcomed right away!
