3 bedroom country house (sleeps 8) with private pool, views, wifi.

Quiet rural property, perfect country retreat; house is nestled in wooded hillside, olive & almond groves, with panoramic views to the white village of Gaucin & Bermeja mountains. Situated at 640m altitude, it benefits from cool evening breezes in summer. It is accessed by a country road in good condition. Only 10min from the lively working village of Gaucin. Many restaurants & bars, a thriving artistic community, and the gorgeous castle with a 360º view of the area.

The two-story house is a recent renovation of an agricultural building. Stone floors throughout, 3 terraces, 2 wood-burning stoves, ample firewood, lovely natural gardens. Ground floor: kitchen/dining room, fireplace, covered porch, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, utility porch w/ washing machine & access. First floor: Living room w/satellite TV & wireless internet, daybed, 2 spacious terraces, 1 bedroom (queen) with lovely view of Gaucin, en suite bathroom.

A rental car is recommended. During the rainy season, 4 wheel drive is recommended.

Trips can be arranged to Seville, Granada and Cádiz/Tarifa.

Pick up from and delivery to the Malaga or Gibraltar airports can also be arranged.

My husband and I have lived in 6 different countries over the past 22 years and are looking forward to eventually making Gaucin a semi-permanent home.

Why Nancy Russell chose Gaucin

While being posted to Madrid for four years, we fell in love with Andalucia and dreamed of eventually retiring to Southern Spain. We discovered Gaucin and immediately knew that it has everything we were looking for: stunning views, peace and quiet, lovely white village, friendly people, artsy expat community, gourmet dining, access to beaches, golf, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and a perfect base for exploring Andalucia. We are pleased to offer our home as a vacation rental until we're ready to retire.

What makes this house unique

This country house has a lovely, peaceful location. You have beautiful views of Gaucin, but no one can view you! It's a wonderfully quiet and restful spot -- no traffic noise, just occasional goat bells or the bay of a mule. Also the top of the property has panoramic views towards Gibraltar and the Rif mountains (see photo!).

Gaucin is ideal as a base to make excursions to western Andalusia. The Coast (including golf courses at Sotogrande) is 25 min. drive, Ronda is 35 min., Gibraltar & Algeciras are 1 hr. away, and Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Cádiz are within 2 hours. Or you can just chill out, in the tranquillity and authenticity of a working Spanish pueblo. The area is a paradise for hikers with many marked trails, and for birdwatchers, it is in the migratory path to Africa. The area boasts many fine restaurants, an award-winning local winery, and a goat cheese factory. At the house, there is binder with suggestions of places to visit, including a map of Gaucin, restaurant recommendations, a hiking guide, and brochures from many of the nearby attractions.

Festivals during the year: Jan. – 3 Kings Parade, Feb. – Carnaval and Día de Andalusia; Mar -- procession for San Juan de Diós; Apr – Easter is celebrated on the streets, May - Gaucin artists Open Studios 2 weekends; June - bonfire of St John Baptist; July - annual Flamenco festival last weekend; Aug - annual Fair 1st weekend; Sept - 9 day celebration of the Santo Niño w/parties, etc., Nov - All Saints´ Day; Dec - Christmas parties.

Golf: 5 Championship golf courses located within 30 minutes, including the famous Valderrama Golf Club.

  • Prices are for 2 guests per week and includes all utilities and internet connection. There is a charge of €100 per week for each additional guest (excluding children under 5). Contact the owner if you are interested in shorter or longer stays. The changeover day is negotiable during low and mid season. There is an extra cleaning charge for pets of €50 per week.
  • To make a booking: 30% deposit, remainder due two weeks prior. At this time, we only accept bank to bank transfers.

Notes: Pick-up from and delivery to airport/train station are available. Accompanied trips to Tangier can be arranged. Also to Seville, Granada, Cordoba. A gardener visits mid-week to maintain the outdoor areas and clean the pool. Additional maid service by request. A cook can be arranged for catering. No smoking allowed inside of the house. Recently added 3rd bedroom and bath, plus utility/laundry area under covered porch. (No photos available yet) Currently updating front covered patio area and adding a built-in barbecue area. On top of the property, you will find a bench from which you can enjoy the panoramic view toward Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains of Morocco. It's perfect for sharing a romantic picnic at dusk or dawn! (We've even rung in the New Year there!)

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, contemplative and genuinely Spanish. This area is unspoiled and is an ideal place to live for a week in Andalusia. There are short trips, long walks, road trips, hikes….the area is pregnant with possibilities. Or just hang around the house, which is a joy in of itself. The mountains, vistas, weather, and village has such visual grandeur, and is so striking, that I felt there needed to be a famous artist doing a landscape painting at all times just to do it justice. I never felt so keenly the inadequacy of a camera. If there was a Spanish version of the Hudson River school of painting, the artists would paint from this area of Gaucin. I will go again.

Recommended for:Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Four weeks in heaven - 5 Stars!

My husband and I spent four idyllic weeks at Rosa Alta. Late August to mid-September is a perfect time of year to get the beginning of migrating birds, warm sunny days making the pool inviting, and two local festivals to get a flavor of the community. We went to Gaucin to test "retirement" -- getting away from daily routine while still being able to do a little work via internet as needed. We loved the pool, the raptors overhead every morning during breakfast on the upstairs patio, and the sheep being moved in the evenings as we had supper on the downstairs patio. We can't wait to go back.....

Recommended for:Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We spent a week at Gaucin, well situated to visit Ronda & Sevilla area. The house is comfortable and the swimming pool is gorgeous ! Gaucin is a charming village with a lot of restaurants & bars.

Recommended for:Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Wunderschönes Anwesen in den andalusischen Bergen

In wunderbarer, ruhiger Landschaft liegt das herrliche Anwesen mit einem uneinsichtigen Pool, ideal um sich vom Alltag und von Stress zu erholen. Zweimal wöchentlich kümmert sich der Gärtner um die Reinigung des Pools und pflegt den herrlichen Garten. Das Haus ist geschmackvoll und zugleich liebevoll im spanisch-marokanischen Stil eingerichtet und bietet viel Platz für eine große Familie oder zwei befreundete Ehepaare. Das nahegelegene Dorf bietet zahlreiche gute Restaurants und zwei gut sortierte Supermärkte für den täglichen Bedarf. Wir haben uns herrlich erholt und den Aufenthalt in vollen Zügen genossen. Das Haus ist nicht mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreichbar, ein Pkw ist notwendig.

Great views, lovely pool

We've recently returned from a 1 week holiday in this lovely away-from-it-all villa. Although initially rather daunted by the track up to the villa (a 4x4 is recommended), the villa itself more than made up for the steep climb - fabulous views across the valley towards Gaucin, a lovely large pool, and a great shady terrace. The beds were very comfortable and great to wake in the morning to the sound of birds and little else. Plenty of outdoor sitting areas including a rooftop terrace with a spectacular outlook. Wifi was an added bonus. Highly recommended if you want a peaceful, rustic villa in a fabulous setting.
