This turn of the century cottage has been enjoyed by five generations who still come to rock on the porches, swim in Lake Michigan and enjoy one of Leland’s finest beaches. The Big Cottage with its magnificent fireplace sits on a hill in the pine forest and looks out to the Manitou Islands to the west and to a walled “orchard” to the east. There is a second modern cottage next door and a newly converted carriage house, together sleeping a maximum of 20. It is a perfect spot for a family reunion as it is within walking distance to the village of Leland but at the entrance to the quiet Indiana Woods. We were not at all surprised that Good Morning America voted this area as the Prettiest Place in North America! Some our family’s favorite activities include sailing, kayaking, hiking, golf and biking beautiful Leelanau County. A Sunfish and two kayaks are available. Young and old alike will be delighted to relax here with the sound of the waves right out the window and the 250 foot private beach just a stone’s throw away.

The village of Leland is a thriving summer community located between 2 lakes. The ferries for the National Scenic Lakeshore leave from Leland's historic Fishtown for the Manitou Islands. The village itself is both quaint and sophisticated with art galleries, museum, library and wonderful restaurants. Leelanau county is a land of cherry orchards and vineyards you will love to explore.
The Big Cottage is one of three on the grounds. Please contact the owner to find out about the other accomodations which may not appear on the calendar.
My family and I had a wonderful week at these beautiful cottages in Leland. The accommodations worked out perfectly for parents, 3 adult children and their families. We had an architect staying with us who was particularly impressed with the Arts and Crafts period details of the main cottage. Direct access to Lake Michigan and a short walk to town made this location the perfect setting for a great family vacation.
We booked the entire property for a week to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. There were sixteen of us, ages 11 to 71 and a fabulous time was had by all. This property and area offers a variety of activities that appeals to a wide population. We spent a lot of time on the beach and shopping in town. My parents enjoyed the amenities and privacy of the little cottage while all the kids took over the big cottage. We cooked all of our meals in house and found the kitchens well-stocked. The big cottage is a treasure trove of books, games, and comfortable furniture which easily supported our large gathering. We had a few "mechanical" difficulties which were dealt with promptly by the hostess.
My wife and I rented this property (all three houses) and held our small ceremony wedding on the property. It was amazing and perfect. We could not be happier. This property legitimately sleeps 20 people. The beach and proximity to Leland (easy walking distance) could not be beat.
We rented in early June and the weather was fairly cool, but you will be comfortable if you dress for it. I will always have fond memories of this property.
We truly enjoyed our stay in the little cottage on this beautiful beach front property! It is within walking distance to town and a short drive to many other activities in northern Michigan. It is perfect for a large family gathering or a quiet retreat on the beach. We look forward to returning year after year!
We had an incredible holiday weekend stay at this well located and charming beach cottage in Leland Michigan. The owners were very accommodating and friendly (they were in residence next door at the larger cottage, which is also for rent). Being able to walk to town, having direct beach access, and staying in a vintage cottage with tons of character on a private estate were all the qualities we were looking for in a rental. Leland is a laid back place in a beautiful part of the world that relaxes us instantly. We would definitely go back!
A visit to Leeland, Michigan harkens back to the wonderland of Nantucket undisturbed by movie stars and crowds in the 60's. Beautiful beaches, quiet towns, simple pleasures. The water however is fresh and not salt!
A visit to this cottage is simply heavenly. it is close to the vibrant and personable town but protected and private as well. In the arms of this joyous compound all is well. You can't go wrong spending time here.
