Photos and Description of the Argentiere vacation apartment rental A luxury 3-bed self-catering ski base for the Chamonix valley

This extra large, newly renovated apartment has 3 full sized bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 ski lockers. The apartment sleeps 6 people in luxury and can hold up to 9 if the sofa bed and the camp bed are both used. It is also split over 2-levels with a hand made timber staircase. Being on the ground and first floors, all rooms have full head height and ample daylight. On the ground floor, there are a twin room and a double room which share a modern tiled bathroom, and seperate WC. There is always plenty of hot water for the whole group. The kitchen is modern, fully equipped with appliances and crockery, a large fridge freezer and dishwasher. On the first floor is a spacious L-shaped living area with views of the Argentiere Glacier from the lounge sofa. On 2-sides there are balconies, one of which has sun till the end of the day. The master bedroom has an ensuite bath with shower. In summer, a tranquil garden and swimming pool facing the Grands Montets are a pleasure to use.

In the centre of the village of Argentiere, you are just 500m from the world class skiing of the Grands Montets. The bus stop for other ski areas is just 50 meters away. 5 mins on the bus is Le Tour with a range of beginner and intermediate pistes as well as more awesome off piste runs. Argentiere is very close to the border with Italy and Switzerland which offer some very enjoyable day trips. For instance, skiing and shopping in Courmayeur, Italy or skiing or partying in Verbier, Switzerland. In summer, gentle walks, high mountain hikes and rock climbing are all on the door step and for miles around. The village of Argentiere has a range of shops, bars and restaurants that will keep you entertained for the duration of your stay. Alternatively, the town of Chamonix is 10 minutes by bus and is a famous, year-round tourist destination in its own right with a range of activities for non-skiers. For example the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 3842m gives views over 3 countries.

Notes: The ground floor is easily accesible for the elderly or infirm or those in wheelchairs. However, there is an internal staircase to the lounge which is no steeper than a normal indoor UK staircase. In winter the streets in the village are often very icy as it is quite high altitude. Smokers are welcome to stand on the balcony but please do not do so inside. All pillows/duvets are made from man-made fibres. Unfortunately, we do not allow pets.

Winter: Chamonix has different ski areas: Grands Montets (500 m walk or short bus ride): World famous off-piste, Argentiere Glaciere trails, also a few intermediate pistes. Le Tour (5 mins bus): Nursery slopes, intermediate and some more spectacular off-piste runs. Brevent/Flegere (10 mins bus): Nursery slopes, intermediate and some more spectacular off-piste runs. Aigulle de Midi: Cable car to 3842m. Spectacular off piste ski run called the Vallee Blanche for intermediates and above. In summer, the Hellbronner cable car goes across the valley to Italy. Les Planards (10 mins bus) : Nursery and beginner slopes Les Houches (20 mins bus): Nursery to intermediate The ski season usually runs from early December until the middle of May. It is usually possible to ski the vallée blanche until the early summer. Also a short drive, Courmayeur (30 mins), Verbier (1 hour), Megeve, St Gervais, Flaine and many more.

Summer: In the summer: Argentiere is the start of many walks for all abilities. Easy, same-level walks in the forest to high-altitude hikes. For the more experienced or with a guide there are several glaciers and many famous rock climbing routes. Chamonix has a large outdoor swimming pool and leisure centre. The shared pool in the apartment block is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. There are also small mountain lakes at Passy for swimming and windsurfing or the beautiful lakes at the nearby city of Geneva (1h) and Annecy (1h). It is also possible to white water raft down the river through the town centre, and on other rivers near by. Parapenting, golf, fishing, mountain biking or just have lunch in one of the many restaurants with spectacular views. The temperature often reaches 30C in the summer.

Thouroughly enjoyed my week in Argentier. Blue skies and powder days dont come any better than that, and the apartment was very comfortable.
Was also impressed with the variety of resorts on my doorstep all within a free 10 minute bus ride with greatly varieing terrain for all different standards of skier. Managed also to do the vallee blanche off piste run which will be forevever in my memory as one of my all time great adventure ski days!
Also managed a day's skiing in Italy and switzerland! Plenty of restaurants and choice of bars on the doorstep with the town of chamonix being just down the road if we wanted a different night out- glitzy bars and too many restaurants for a month!
Only two drawbacks- found he local ESF ski school did not have enough english speakers for the kids so woul use one of the english schools next time AND one week was not enough!
