Located in the exclusive and charming town of Ross, this stately, 3800 sq. ft. Victorian home is your sophisticated yet very comfortable "home away from home".
Originally built in 1886, the Otis Elevator family recreated the home with the grandeur of the era in the early 1900s, featuring a sweeping 6 foot wide staircase, seven fireplaces, stained glass, hardwood flooring, pocket doors, 20 ft. ceilings, and handcrafted architectural details throughout - a very special home.
The three story layout is ideal for large groups of friends or family. The master bedroom features a separate, bedroom-sized dressing room/walk-in closet. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an office on the second floor, and three bedrooms and bathroom with shower and claw foot tub on the third floor. The ground floor features a living room, formal dining room, large kitchen with granite isle, and window-seated room for watching the 42" television (there are four t.v.s throughout the house).
The outdoors features lovely gardens and level lawn, a majestic redwood tree, small pond with waterfall, and a seasonal creek that runs through the property (kids will love the tree swing over the creek). A stone gas fireplace with flagstone paving is ideal for outdoor entertaining or summertime s'mores.
A short walk to Ross Common or downtown San Anselmo will treat you to some of the best restaurants in Marin and shopping. Or hop in the car or on the ferry to visit San Francisco (20 minutes away) or Napa (30 minutes).
A very special home awaits you!
My family (seven adults) and I recently rented this house during the Thanksgiving holiday. The home is beautiful, as are the grounds and the location is ideal. However, with a house this large (three stories), ongoing maintenance is a concern. The linens in the third floor bedrooms were musty and the towels, while clean, were threadbare and had a few obvious stains. Additionally, the hot tub did not work (one of the main reasons we rented the house) and neither did the dishwasher, which is particularly frustrating when cleaning up after eight adults. Finally, either the owners have pets or they did not clean up after the previous renters who had pets, but there was animal hair on the couches and in the corners behind furniture and in the stairwell. This is truly a remarkable home and with a bit more attention, could be everything the ad promises. The owners were kind and responsive but for the price per night, my family and I had hoped for more. One last note, there are many stairs throughout the home and I would not recommend this house for anyone with elderly family members or small children.
The house was exactly as advertised. The home is an old victorian walking distance to restaurants and shops. The house was very spacious and well maintained. The owners are very easy to work with and go out of their way to make sure you feel welcomed and your stay goes well. We had 9 adults staying at the home and it didn't feel overwhelming or crowded. I would recommend this home for a group of adults looking for a place for the family to gather while visiting the area.
The gated victorian is charming and full of character with great features. It was well maintained and filled our needs for our large family gathering back in June. The backyard with the lovely deck and pond were pleasant and inviting. Sally was very accomodating. If we ever had the need to go up to Ross again we would keep this property in mind.
