Tony and Joyce Lopes built this house in 1991. Joyce, now widowed, is traveling more for longer periods of time. Her recently purchased motorhome enables her to see and stay at many of her favorite locations.
'I am happy to open my house to others as my 'guests' and hope they enjoy the house and location as much as I have over the years.'
Joyce Lopes purchased this house in 1990
My husband and I had this home built to our specification because it is located on a little piece of paradise. Love for the ocean and beautiful sunsets made this our top location priority.
Sconticut Neck has it all, it is quaint, private, and close to everything you'd ever want to have access to. Fine dining, dance clubs, mom and pop restaurants, walking trails, nature and the sea. Beautiful sunsets and panorama waterfront views are surely to relax and sedate you. Also close to UMass-D and BCC campuses for those needing housing for the school year.
The house and setting are wonderful. The master suite is spectacular, great view, nice balcony, great bathtub with water jets. The kitchen is nice with most utensils that you would need. The owner has beach chairs other things that make life easier for the guests. The place was clean and well kept. There is a nice bike path within 2 miles of the house. Great place to stay in the hot weather as there was always a nice breeze off Buzzards Bay.
We visit family in Fhvn regularly. This rental was great! Joyce was wonderful! The house was clean/neat, generally well-maintained, nicely decorated and had so many incredible features. It was close to amenities (4-min drive to supermarkets, stores, restaurants, major highways; a 2 min drive to West Island). The house location provided great privacy in a very quiet area facing the beach across the street.. with our own private path to it. The house had a great lay-out, w/LOTS of room, a tremendous about of storage/closets/chests in bedrooms, huge luxurious main bathroom, glass sliding doors facing gorgeous water views of the harbor/ocean from 2nd and 3rd floor levels. Central air conditioning and extra fridge on the upstairs floor came in handy. The master bedroom was so spacious it took up the entire front/side of the house and even had sliding doors that opened onto a little corner porch with rocking chairs. Each morning we'd open the curtains to breath-taking views and each evening we'd watch lovely sunsets (when the weather permitted!) We used the binoculars a lot! The open concept of the kitchen/livingroom was fantastic, with lots of comfortable seating and great views of the water and wildlife..(shore birds, many bunnies who shared the property with us.. even deer...2 were roaming around outside and went onto the beach just across the street before they made their way back to the wooded area nearby ! Amazing). Oh, did I mention the view?!.. shoreline/beach from the kitchen, LR, BR, BA, wrap-around porch..just about everywhere in the house. It was outstanding..day and night!. When family/friends came to visit, we had great areas for entertaining, including the porches and a big kitchen island. After visiting us, none of our guests wanted to go home. Neither did we! I can't say enough good things about Joyce and her home! On the practical side, we did request a few additional items when we arrived (being the first renters of the season and into cooking). Joyce was quick to help and supply them (e.g.,extra keys, a first aide kit, and garlic press). The coffee maker was a bit challenging so we ended up buying one to use there and take back to Canada with us(we needed one anyway.. be sure to check out Ocean State Job Lot for great deals). The only 2 things I would have changed were weather/ticks. The month of May is always risky for both, but the house/location made up for it! And Pete caught many striped bass! Thanks, Karen/ Judy/Pete/Leah and my Mom
The spectacular views from this cottage and the lightness of the interior made our visit so restful. Joyce was so kind and allowed us to add a few days to our stay - which was so appreciated - because we had many family members coming and going for a few days at a time, and it gave us a chance to include everyone.
Needless to say, we used the kitchen a lot. Usually cooking meals on vacation is not very relaxing. Not so in Joyce's kitchen! I can honestly say the view from the (giant) kitchen window is by far the best of any cottage we've ever been to. At the end of the day, with the sun setting before our very eyes as we prepared meals, we forgot about the 'work' and feasted on the view. The western views out over the water allowed us to enjoy every moment of each day - right to the last drop of pink swirly light over the water at sunset - priceless!
Yes it's true the beach is rocky, and you must have water shoes to swim. But the water is so warm....it's worth the effort to wade in or . . . just sit and sun in the sand at the water's edge with your feet in the warm waves. We really liked the privacy the rocks provided - very little foot traffic.
Aside from the must have amenities (w/d, dw), the cottage has central air, which is really nice when the sun comes in later in the day, and a full 2nd bathroom downstairs - another must have with extra guests and little ones. Plus, not having to bring linens is a blessing in itself.
But the master suite is THE bee' knees . . . giant 2-person jacuzzi, king bed, skylights, Keurig and mini bar, private balcony, and .......the view, view, view from every angle.
We all went home feeling relaxed, sunned, and rested - exactly the way it should be!

I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks at this location and can honestly say when I arrived my life, body & mind to include my spirit were very heavily burdened with the typical day to day struggles everyone has. However after my stay in this little piece of paradise by the bayside everything started to come together nicely. Looking out over the ocean, watching sunrise & sunsets, walks on the beech at dawn with a cup of coffee, now tell me who would not enjoy that, what a mind cleansing location.I could not have spent a better moment in life absorbing all the beauty this place has to offer. Roll over in bed and open your eyes to the view of the ocean? WOW is all I can say....thank you Joyce for making this vacation a very memorable and opening you place for all to share....worth ever minute and every dollar spent! She even has complimentary bottle of wine of your choice in case you came in late night and stores were closed, what an excellent idea! Thanks again
My family and I spent a week at the this fabulous beachfront home and loved it! There was stunnung views from everywhere in the house! Everything you could possibly need was provided! I particularly loved the master bedroom with the deck off it facing the beach! And the master bath!I would We were there for July 4 and had awesome views of the fireworks off the decks! It was also conveniently located near grocery stores, restaurants and gift shops! We hope to return again next summer! And the owner is so nice too! We loved her! I would highly recommend this home for fun in the sun!
The decks around the house were perfect for ocean views, sunset over the ocean (facing west!), and cool breeze on summer days. The private beach area was very nice to have, but not great for swimming since it was so rocky, so we mostly drove to another beach about 5 min. away. The owner Joyce was very kind, responsive, and understanding to us. The master bedroom area is probably the best part for anyone sleeping in that bedroom too. There are ocean views all around and a little deck right off of the bedroom. The master bathroom was great! Lots of useful things in the kitchen for cooking too.
Walking/bike path near by which follows along the water, birds and wildlife all around. Lose yourself in nature as you exercise. No Cape traffic to contend with but can take a 30 minute enjoyable drive during the weekday to visit. Also 40 minutes to beautiful Newport RI .. Shopping, boat rides, mansions and quaint restaurants.
Take 30 miles to a commuter train and visit the awesome city of Boston. Too much to mention here.. Go online to view
