THE ~KVI~ BEACH HOUSE: THANKSGIVING STILL AVAILABLE!

Vashon Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + attached Studio, (Sleeps 13-14); 4 Bathrooms

A ferry ride away from Tacoma, Seattle, or the Olympic Peninsula, Vashon is a unique rural refuge in a sea of urban development. Located at the center of the east side of the island, KVI Beach House is the perfect location to explore Vashon and is just minutes away from town and nearby bus lines heading to the ferries.

Facing the sun all day long, KVI Beach House is on the bluff overlooking Tramp Harbor and Vashon’s most popular public beach, known to locals as KVI Beach, the heart and soul of Vashon Island. The entrance to this unique beach, protected by King County, is just a two minute walk and Islanders old, young and four-legged come to relax, play, and exercise here in all seasons of the year. We directly face Mt. Rainier, Maury Island and Tramp Harbor.

We have 3 bedrooms plus a large Recreation room/Studio apartment. There is an open plan living, dining kitchen area.

In the loft is the King Master and it has a king pillow-top bed, full bath with a Jacuzzi tub/shower. There is a view of Mt Rainier from the loft. The loft master also has twin beds in an alcove, in addition to a click clack futon style double bed. There is also a roll away single bed there and a crib. The high ceiling King Master sleeps up to 2 couples, as well as up to 3 singles and a baby. More pack and plays are available on the other floors.

On the main floor, the Queen Master has an attached bath with a 'Tea for Two' tub and a separate stand up shower. It sleeps one couple and is the most private area.

The Bunk Room has a vintage WWII Navy bunk bed which is 30'X 80' and a single twin, sleeping 3 singles. Down the hall is an ADA accessible bathroom with a large wheelchair accessible shower, or group shower for the kids after a day on the beach.

The Studio on the ground level has a pull out American Comfort Sleeper queen bed , a roll away bed, and a blow up mattress plus a pack and play. Also, it has a large screen TV and easy access to the outside barbecue, fire pit and lawn area. This is great for the teens in the family or a large family. There is a bar area for entertaining after the kids are asleep. The Rec room can sleep up to 1 couple , and up to 2 singles or 4 singles if sharing a bed.

The house can accommodate up to 4 couples and 7 singles, or 12 singles, or combinations thereof, not including a babies, and depending on room sharing. Over eight guests are charged extra including those under age 12. Parking is limited to 4 spaces, 5 in a squeeze.

In spring, look for seals and the Orca pods who playfully splash through on their pursuit of the salmon runs in the South Sound. Watch as the early daffodils perk up out of the ground in early March. Divers have found the shelf off this beach to be one of the best diving locations in the Sound, and in all seasons you can see dive boats moored offshore, exploring the undersea world which includes spotting the largest octopus in the world. Try your luck at fishing. The Tramp Harbor fishing pier is a ten minute walk or a minute’s drive away, and has a long dock, picnic and honey bucket facilities. You can also surf cast from the beach below our house.

In summer, listen for the high-pitched whistle of the killdeer protecting their eggs laid in the driftwood, pretending to be wounded to get you away from their nests; take note of the rattling chatter of the local population of kingfishers, who like to perch above the trees while the tide comes in. Overhead hear the whistling cries of the bald eagles and the osprey, and watch as they fight each other over dinner from the bounty of Tramp Harbor. Watch out for hummers, too, as they may just want to investigate who is invading their territory.

During the fall, this beach is a bird lover’s paradise, and Audubon walks are common when hundreds of migratory American Widgeons and other water fowl seek safe harbor here. Mallards are yearlong residents, and off shore rare water fowl are common.A spotting scope is set up on the covered porch. You definitely want to bring binoculars. Also, ask about booking a tour from a noted birder in the neighborhood or a boat ride around quartermaster harbor. The captain of the Vashona just wrote the latest book on the history of Vashon, and the tour is historical and geological. Salmon fishing trips are also possible to arrange and some pick you up from KVI beach.Of course be sure to bring a camera.

In winter, sit on the wrap-around deck of the cottage wrapped up in a blanket, look out at the migrating water fowl nosily quacking in the protected salt water stream which ebbs and flows with the tide just beneath your feet. Listen for the loons in the lagoon at night. Owls perch in the tall Douglas firs.Feel the wind and rain on your face as you walk on a mostly deserted beach, watching the waves whip up the sand and driftwood. Relax by the warm fire with a good book and never want for a view of what’s going on in Tramp Harbor.

KVI Beach is also a haven for island children who grow up on this sandy beach, where a small, salt-water inlet becomes a pool for their little boats and floats. The little ones build sand castles and driftwood forts, catch and release hermit crabs and play under the watchful eyes of their parents as the tide comes in and goes out. Sea stars, sand dollars, moon snails, mussels, clams, gooey ducks, sea cucumbers all abound. Islanders enjoy observing the creatures of the sea, and hope that visitors respect the abundant sea life. The older children and teens play beach volleyball, baseball, picnic and at night build fires augmented by the natural phosphorescence in the water of the incoming tide. Adults have a great view of all the activities from atop the covered porch of KVI Beach House.

Dogs love KVI as well, and on weekends, at all times of the year, people walk their dogs, children, and themselves on the easy beach trails that wrap around Point Heyer. Eagles hang out on the tower to the north year round. They can be seen in early morning and early evening getting breakfast and dinner, and have claimed KVI as their own.

Kevin is a geologist and environmental consultant and Nancy is a former sociologist now running this island business. We have 2 dogs, a grown son and daughter who love the island and grew up here. All of us like to travel, but love to come home to this special place.

Nancy Bachant purchased this house in 2008

The beach at KVI was our children's playground, and it is such a special place we wanted to share the experience with others. So when the run down house next door came up for sale, we thought we could conveniently operate a vacation rental, now called the KVI Beach House. We tore down the old house that was there and built this new one as a future retirement home but a vacation rental for now.

This is the most popular public beach on the island, where dogs, kids, seniors, birders, locals and tourists all come together to play in the sand and sound.

AN ISLAND ADVENTURE

  • 5 of 5
Incredible beautiful setting...wonderful home away from home that held our four couples and a single friend in peaceful relaxed comfort. Wonderful gathering places inside up/downstairs and enough room for privacy. The diamond of this home is the outside gathering space around the fire-pit......will return in a heartbeat!

GREAT GIRLS WEEKEND!

  • 5 of 5
This home is beautiful, bright, and has an amazing view of the sound. It was a great place to celebrate my friend's Bachelorette weekend. We had 11 people in our party, and there was more than enough room for all of us to sleep. The home has two full kitchens which was helpful for baking dishes at the same time for brunch, and we were able to take a nice long walk on the beach on Saturday morning. Nancy walked us through the home and let us know where everything was, and the whole weekend was a great success!!

GREAT PLACE TO RELAX AND ENJOY

  • 5 of 5
I hosted 10 people from all over the state/country for a weekend of cooking, conversation and enjoying the beautiful views and beach access. Vashon is a great place to explore, and this home was perfect. The owner was amazing, so helpful and considerate - responsive to every question. A great place for a "time out" - beautiful, clean and relaxing.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
I threw my sisters bachelorette party here because she wanted a relaxing getaway with friends, and I couldn't have picked a better place. Nancy, the owner, is amazing and literally thinks of everything. She came and greeted us and showed us the house and was so kind to our dog who ran around the property non stop. The wrap around porch was a favorite for everyone and there was enough room in the house to allow everyone space to be alone or together, whatever they wanted. Little things I appreciated were having coffee filters already in the coffee pots with creamer, sugar and stir sticks, (she even had a coffee pot and tray with coffee upstairs for those guests) fresh biscotti, every pot, pan and utensil that you could ever want and hot chocolate, marshmallows, etc for the fire pit out back. You can tell Nancy loves doing this and she left us alone the entire weekend and didn't come over until we called her to check out. We are definitely going back again.

COULDN'T BE BETTER!

Couldn't Be Better!
  • 5 of 5
Having spent a full two months at Nancy's, I think we are especially qualified to review the KVI Beach House. All we can say is that it's perfect. Not only is it a beautiful and spacious home, it is stocked to the gills with every imaginable convenience and comfort. If you want or need something you'll probably find it in this house. On top of that, the views are stunning, the setting spectacular, and the location wonderful. The beach is a short stroll away and downtown Vashon a short drive. We especially loved the family room with its huge TV, the fenced-in backyard for our dogs, the fireplace, the bbq, and, after having cooked a complete Thanksgiving dinner in the house, the main kitchen, which is stocked with every imaginable accessory. Finally, Nancy, the owner, couldn't be lovelier. Though she lives next door, the house is utterly private. She is instantly available should any situation arise. She is also a fountainhead of information on Vashon and its environs. We enthusiastically recommend this outstanding vacation rental.
