About Bill Lorenzo

We are a family of five, our kids are 15, 13 and 10 years old. This is our vacation home and we really love it. We have been spending more time with kids weekend activities and sports and also working more so we have not been able to visit as much as we like. We decided to start renting in 2012.

Why Bill Lorenzo chose Blowing Rock

We live in Charlotte and enjoy Blowing Rock and Boone for many reasons. We first started vacationing in the area by renting homes and truly enjoyed ourselves every time. Blowing Rock is located only 2 hours from Charlotte which makes it a really easy drive. We love all the choices for outdoor activities. Our kids' favorites are kayaking the calmer parts of the New River (little and safe rapids) and climbing the rocks at Hebron Falls. We also have become quite good snow boarders spending many winter weekends at App Ski Mnt. We are going to take up fly fishing next.

What makes this cabin unique

The feeling of being in the woods without a lot of homes around us yet very close to all the comforts of Boone and the downtown historic environment of Blowing Rock. What we like about our cabin is that we can send the kids (and their friends) down to the playroom where they can be noisy and we can relax on the main area and kitchen. We rented a lot of cabins and homes first and the noise with kids and crowded feeling with many family guests was always a problem. Our cabin is perfect for a lot of people. We hosted a Thanksgiving family reunion a few years ago. We had 10 adults and 10 kids and it was a total success. We have the shutter fly album on the coffee table.

Farmhouse Reunion of Old Friends

  • 5 of 5
We had a fabulous visit to this property despite the rainy fall weekend. The view from the living area is beautiful any time of the year and the owner went over AND beyond to make our visit terrific. The linens (especially the towels) were so soft, the kitchen well appointed and the checkout procedure was perhaps the easiest I have ever experienced. Loved this!!!

Last second booking.

  • 5 of 5
This was just what we'd needed! Nine of us, all adults. We had a great table for cards and games in the evening, a fire pit for a bonfire, room to be together, room to be apart, and modern furniture and decor. For the daytime, we were right between Boone and Blowing Rock, beautiful locales. The best part for me was the way the home owner worked with me to handle the details quickly. Our first rental home through VRBO had double booked us! I had to find another home fast, and called this one in the evening. In no time at all we had everything in order for a worry free vacation. Thanks so much! We had a great time. Yes, the driveway is steep and I wouldn't want to try it in the winter, but as a flat-lander, it was fun!

Great Weekend Birthday Surprise

  • 5 of 5
I had never been to Blowing Rock before, but I am so very happy that I pulled the trigger on this place. The house is so convenient to downtown, yet you feel secluded in a beautiful, huge, 3-story home in the mountains. I wanted to surprise my wife for a special birthday weekend with just family there. This house couldn't have been better suited for a relaxing weekend with the family. The living spaces were huge, and each couple had their own king suite. The kitchen was even stocked with everything we needed for dinner and dessert. All we could talk about when we were there is how this will be the perfect location to have a family reunion next year. We will definitely be scheduling this trip soon. The only downfall was that we had to leave. We can't wait to come back!

And a few details about our trips to downtown. There are so many excellent shops and restaurants in town. The Blowing Rock Brewery had great local beer selections, and Best Cellar was a great dinner one of the nights. They even had live bluegrass music on the lawn. We also went to The Blowing Rock. Such a cool place. Now I know why it is called Blowing Rock.

Fantastic cabin for family gatherings! Great location, very well kept - has everything!

  • 5 of 5
We recently had 12 adults and three toddlers meet at this cabin for a 3-day family/friend gathering. Three days was not enough! There is so much to do in the area. The cabin is in the perfect location - 10 minutes to Blowing Rock, 10 minutes to Boone. We made all of our meals at the cabin and didn't have to worry about bringing anything except the food. The communication with the Owner was always prompt and he was very helpful - even texted to ensure everything was up to par when we got there. There was plenty of room for all of us and we even had extra pillows/beds/blankets left over. I would highly recommend this cabin/owner and plan to go back next year (for longer!).

Relaxing Vacation

  • 4 of 5
We go to Blowing Rock every summer and it was our first visit to Sunset Cabin. The house was fun for our five young children and six adults and easily slept all of us. It's a very private location and had a pretty view from the front windows. The family room was inviting with the full story windows. It truly felt that we were in the trees. The yard in the back of the house has a large level area and the children had a blast playing there in the cowboy costumes they got a Tweetsie. The adults enjoyed their beverages sitting at the outside tables while watching the action.

One of the favorite things about the house was the fire pit up the hill in the back of the property. We lit a fire each evening which was a huge adventure for the children! Thank you for the logs stacked by the pit. That was a treat! The children scoured the woods and had a great time bringing us twigs for kindling.

The house is about 10 minutes from Boone and Blowing Rock and even closer to Tweetsie. The weather was cool and we were able to keep all of the windows open and enjoy the fresh mountain air. We were glad to see the the windows were very easy to open and close. It rained our last two days there, which unfortunately were the days we planned to use the kayaks. Next year we will plan better!

The only thing lacking were enough plates to serve our family of eleven so plan to bring paper plates. Other than that, this cabin was the perfect mountain vacation spot for our family.

Owner's Response: I am glad to hear you enjoyed your vacation and we would love to have you back so that you can go kayaking. Honestly, I haven't checked the dishes in a while and we must have lost some over time. Thank you for letting us know. I will do an inventory through our kitchen and restock plates and anything else that needs attention. Bill.

Great place for family gatherings!

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our second year at this spacious, comfortable, well-supplied cabin! There was room for us to gather as a group in the living room (ages 7months - 78 yrs) and to find a 'quiet space' on the porch, back yard, fire pit, etc.
We enjoyed miles of hiking on near by trails and two occasions of kayaking on the beautiful lake! Blowing Rock is a neat little town to visit with shops, restaurants and a nice park. Boone has a variety of stores for anything you might need!
Bill is so available to communicate with if you have a question or a need.
We try to experience different NC mountain areas, so we may not be back to this private cabin nestled among the trees! We have plenty of pictures to remind us of our blessed weeks 'on the hill'!
