Great granddaughter of original owners and granddaughter of original builders. I live near by and am the caretaker along with my brother (who also lives in Charlevoix) and our families.
Karen Hadley purchased this cottage in 1937
This cottage is my family heritage and is where my favorite lifetime memories were created. We grew up here during the summers enjoying camp fires, s'mores, swimming, fishing with my mom, waterskiing, reading under the shade trees and just plain being kids. Every day was an adventure! As an adult, I appreciate this unique setting even more. We would like to share this with you so that you and your family may create similar memories.
As you drive down the tree shaded drive, you can spot Mimi's red cottage at the end of the road. You step out of your car and take in a deep breath of fresh lake air. Walk through the garden into the country kitchen and immediately feel right at home. Don't bother to unpack, instead head down the expanse of lawn right to the lake. Walk out to the end of the dock, take another deep breath and RELAX! Your vacation has now begun!
We just came back from an absolutely wonderful stay at the cottage. 4 people and a dog. What a fantastic stay. The cottage was great, cabin atmosphere, quiet, very relaxing. Swam off the dock, cooked out by the lake, slept on the porch, etc... Great time. I have summered on Charlevoix for the past 7 years, and this was by far our favorite vacation. My wife said that if it not for the kids, she would have cried when she had to leave... she loved it so much. Thanks for the great time!
We booked after reading the reviews on this website. It was everything advertised and much more.
We brought our black lab she didn't want to leave the water!
Owner and family are very nice. Hope to come back again this year.
We loved the cabin. I take my store managers on a fishing trip every year and this was one of the best trips to date. Erveryone had a great time. The cabin was perfect. We had everything that we needed for an enjoyable weekend. If we decide to return to this area for next years trip we would like to stay here again.
We enjoyed our time at Mimi's cottage. The cottage is unique, interesting and comfortable. The location is fabulous on Lake Charlevoix. and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We hope to return to this wonderful place.
Our family had a wonderful vacation in this cottage! The setting is beautiful!! The dock is fantastic for swimming and fishing. The owners were very helpful and easy to work with. We hope to be back next year!
If you have ever filed a complaint at the Ritz Carleton that the bon-bon's were room temperature, this may not be the right place for you. If you want to take your family for a true vacation to actually spend QUALITY time together this is the right place. The cabin is authentic 1930's era fishing cabin, it has a charm to it that you will appreciate and it was quite comfortable for our family of four. Here our our notes we made for the next visit.
The kitchen is well stocked with the basics, we made dinner every evening without needing something that wasn't there. Only complaint was the coffee maker was slow to brew, but no biggie.
Bed's were comfortable, the boys loved the sleeping porch.
We hesitated to bring our two dogs and left them at home, but regretted that all week. It is very pet friendly.
If you bring a boat, there is great trailer parking in the lot just West of the house.
The dock is a bit rough, you will need to moor against pylons which can be tricky. (Bring a board for your fenders).
The water in the lake is absolutely beautiful. Visit the shipwrecks in Oyster Bay and bring snorkel gear - the boys loved snorkeling around the two sunken schooners that were built in the1860's We visited the Historical Society to learn all about them.
Campfires on the beach under the stars was truly awesome. Bring S'mores
The TV only gets a 2-3 channels, there is a VCR
Cell coverage is one bar for Verizon and Sprint in the house but full 4G signal by the dock. There is no land line.
Beach was very nice and great for the kids.
Full size Washer and Dryer was a plus
Castle Farms is nearby with activities / shows/weddings every weekend. Strawberry, raspberry picking nearby at Kitely's farm. The Jordan River is great for canoeing and tubing. Lake Charlevoix is wonderful for swimming, fishing, skiing, kayaking, sailing, and most water sports. Petoskey stone hunting is a favorite past-time.
