Ellen Engel purchased this house in 2005
This house is situated in a nice, quiet neighborhood with easy access to Center City and the Sports Complex. It's an old Italian neighborhood filled with great restaurants and takeout (especially Italian). It is only three blocks to the subway and only four stops to center city. Two to the Sports Complex. There is street parking if you prefer to drive. In Center City you will find theater, movie theaters, restaurants, cultural events, museums and historical landmarks of all kinds. Philly has a great history and vibe. People are friendly, the food is great, and there is lots to see and explore.
The house is spacious and very nice. A historical, but recently renovated row house with modern decoration. It has central air, a back patio with barbecue and outside furniture. The basement is a finished basement and sitting room and can serve as an in-law apartment.
Was staying there with 8 other guys for a weekend in Philly and was shocked by how much space we had. Also excellent location since parking in Philly can be very difficult. I highly recommend staying here.
My large group of 3 adults and 7 children stayed here for a weekend in Philly. The house has plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for a large group - the kids all slept downstairs which was fun for them. We were able to take the subway into Center City which was a short walk from the house. The kitchen was well stocked and the house had everything we needed, even a pack and play. I highly recommend this lodging.
This home was a wonderful place to stay. It was well-kept and spacious, particularly on the main floor where the communal space is large enough for people to spread out but still feel like they are together. I would recommend this house to anyone!
This home was very comfortable and about a block's walk to the subway. Parking was a little crazy at night, but always found a parking spot within a block or two. We were there mainly for the convention, but the history in the city was amazing. And it felt so good to come home to a place that felt like home rather than a hotel room. Restaurants were very pricy so we ate at home a lot and everything we needed to prepare meals was there; we just needed to buy the food. We has an awesome stay.
We just spent four days at this townhouse while my daughter was graduating from UPenn. We had family coming and going and we ranged in age from 23-80. This property was perfect. The townhouse is very spacious, sleeps a LOT of people, is in a very nice, family-oriented neighborhood and was conveniently located. I've been telling people back home that "the townhouse was the best part of the trip". Because we had this as a home base, people could come and go, we could cook and eat (or go to nearby shops) on our own schedule, we could walk for exercise or errands, nap and sleep at different times... In fact, I have to admit, we didn't even go to the final big graduation event at Franklin Field. We watched it from the comfort of the living room, streaming live on my laptop, over the townhouse wireless as we sipped home-brewed coffee and ate apple turnovers from the bakery down the street (!).
Ellen left copious, detailed notes that told us everything we needed to know. The parking wasn't difficult, even on this busy weekend. We drove back and forth to the airport a few times (15- 20 minutes) and some guests took taxis (about $20). There were three full bathrooms so never a wait. My mother is unsteady on her feet, but she was able to make it up the front steps and even the stairs to the second floor because there is a very good handrail. It was too cool to use the small back yard, but that must be nice in the summer.
Ellen was very responsive before we got there. We didn't have any issues while we were there. Things were clean and neat. The photos make it look smaller than it actually felt. The ceilings are quite high; my son is 6'7" and he slept in the basement!
All in all, five stars. I'd go back and I'd recommend it to friends.
City environment. Walk out the door and walk to grocery, bakery, butcher, restaurants, bars.
