Overview

Asheville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Secluded Mountain Top Cabin-HotTub-PetFriendlyFirePit 20min Downtown Asheville

Welcome to The Island in the Sky , located at the very top of the mountain 1000 feet above Asheville and just 20 minutes from downtown. Pet friendly. Incredible hiking right out your door, (we own the entire top of the mountain), with fabulous year-round 360 degree views that include Mount Mitchell.

We offer two great cabins that will provide accommodations for up to 8 people. We will accommodate couples renting one cabin or groups that can take over the entire top of the mountain. There is a hot tub that is shared between the two cabins but is almost always available as our guests are out and about hiking, going to town, zip lining or visiting the Biltmore.

You will appreciate the quiet natural surroundings that include fabulous mountain-fresh air, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, native wildlife and trails for hiking to your heart’s content. A four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle (such as a Subaru) will have no difficulty driving to the top, but two wheel drive vehicles will need to park at the lower parking area and guests will be driven to their lodging by the owners.

The Island in the Sky is located at the top of the mountain but it takes only 15 minutes to get to Asheville and 20 minutes to Biltmore Estate.

We are dog lovers and welcome any well behaved dog. For you photography folks, take in the natural surroundings along with the wildlife and our free roaming pet, Bert the Emu, who has lived here for the past 10 years. Relax in the mountain air in the cool evenings and have a bonfire, re-live your childhood, play horseshoes, enjoy our tree swings, play games, and have a cookout in a secluded area chock full of nature. Awake to the sounds of the mountains and nothing else! Come and recharge yourself away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Return to nature for the weekend, the week, or longer, at The Island in the Sky.

During the daytime, take a nature hike on miles of beautiful mountain trails that begin right out your door, and stroll along with Bert the Emu, take plenty of pictures of the surroundings because you are sure not to want to leave this paradise.

Bring a mat and practice your Yoga in complete solitude. For you early morning risers, look down the mountain and check out the morning cloud cover. Eat breakfast on the patio and then go to downtown and enjoy all that Asheville has to offer including the world famous Biltmore Estate & Winery, The Grove Park Inn, downtown shopping, that includes arts and crafts, furniture, antiques, and the finest dining in all of North Carolina. Go to downtown Weaverville – a small town with a big heart where people say hello and will make you feel welcome. While you are there, stop and enjoy Blue Mountain Pizza, and the famous Well-Bred Bakery and Café – where you will see the Mountain Éclair and other bakery items that will leave you astonished and wanting more.

Check out the Navitat Zip Line Canopy adventure for a heart pumping experience. Just down the road is the French Broad Rafting Expedition with Kayaking, tubing, white water rafting, a with a professional tour guide by USA Rafting Company. During the winter months, enjoy a bonfire at night and/or visit the Wolf Laurel Ski Resort for mountain skiing, snow boarding and snow tubing, located just twelve miles away at exit 3 off I-26 . Visit nearby Mount Mitchell the highest mountain east of the Mississippi, drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway with its' spectacular views. There are many beautiful waterfalls to be seen nearby, Grandfather Mountain is spectacular along with the entrance to the Linville Caverns not far away.

At the end of the day, see a unique and wonderful sunset at The Island in the Sky. Take in the thirty mile views all around. Sleep well at 3,400 feet with mountain air that will let you sleep like you never did before. Book a visit today. You’ll be glad you did.

Hosts, Bob Breining and Melissa Steinnagel purchased this property four years ago. This is the fulfillment of their life long dream to live in a secluded mountain top property but still be close to Asheville. Bob has developed property as a site contractor most of his adult life and enjoys the opportunity to work with his own land creating walking trails and exposing the spectacular views. Melissa is a nurse working locally and has been in charge of decorating.

Bob Breining purchased this cabin in 2010

My husband and I came to the mountains to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. This was exactly what we hoped for. Quiet, peaceful, clean and the most spectacular views I have ever seen. We enjoyed seeing Bert the Emu and I got to feed him a banana. . Thank you Bob and Melissa you were great host's and made us feel like family during our stay. We will be coming back again

Incredible cabin with a breathtaking view.

  • 5 of 5

We had a incredible experience at the cabin. The owner was extremely helpful and kind. He met us at the bottom of the mountain and showed us where to go. Showed us all the hiking trails and gave us great advice on where to go in Asheville. I would recommend the cabin to anyone of any age. It is a bit of a steap drive so make sure you take a vehicle with four wheel drive.

Perfect Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed here for MLK weekend and it was wonderful. The kitchen was fully equipped with cooking supplies, which was nice since we made our own breakfast everyday. This is a quiet, solicited location in the mountains of North Carolina. You will need a four-wheel drive car to get up to the mountain.* The place had everything we needed: HD Cable TV, fireplace and space heaters for our comfort, an amazing view, and a hot tub (which was breathtaking at night with the stars overhead).

Bob was an amazing host. He had plenty of suggestions for places to eat and where to go in downtown Asheville, which was very helpful given our limited time in NC. The only thing we needed was hangers and an iron and Bob even went out of his way and actually bought these items for us at the store. Thank you Bob for your hospitality and kindness. I would recommend this place to those looking for a getaway from everyday life, you won't regret it.

Absolutely Gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was absolutely gorgeous! I loved waking up in the morning to the sunrise over the mountain, and falling asleep with the windows open. Their dogs (and pig!) are so well mannered and super sweet, and is easy to feel right at home your first night. However, you will definitely need a 4WD vehicle if you don't want to rely on Bob driving you up and down, but he is gracious to do it every time if you don't. I'm sure we will be back to enjoy everything Asheville has to offer!
