From enquiry, to booking to arrival, everything was arranged smoothly with no hassles.
It was our first time self catering in Antigua and we cannot find fault the experience at all.
Mango Villa is a beautifully quiet cottage.
Paul was so helpful on arrival and popping in to make sure we were ok. Debbie is a wonderful woman, so kind and helpful. As for Faye, it was a great reassurance knowing she was there if we needed.
The villa is well equipped, very clean, safe and perfectly located.
A car is essential as even the shortest walks are testing in the heat.
We enjoyed our stay so much and we miss the tree frog symphony already.
I have a busy lifestyle and wanted to take some time out.
I like to visit a different caribbean island each time so this was my first time in Antigua.
I travelled solo for 2 weeks and never knew anybody on the whole island.
On my arrival to Mango Villas, the first thing that struck me was how neat and tidy it was from the outside, once inside this same high standard was met, it was immaculate just like in the photos.
Debbie was responsible for this, she really does a good job and doesnt miss a spot.
Paul was very helpful, he's the one who holds the keys, he also has a dive shop on jolly beach with free WI-FI access (there is none at the villa).
Faye the neighbour is also very friendly and can offer advice of good places to go, local buses and is good just for general conversation.
I did not hire a car as I spend most of my time driving around in London and wanted a break from all that.
However, I would recommend a car for at least some of your stay if you want to really explore the whole island.
I got around pretty well on foot and by bus but I'm adventerous, young and in good health.
It is a good location, 10 minute walk to the nearest beach which is pretty much deserted with nice white sand, 5 minute bus ride to jolly harbour (shopping complex/ touristy beach), 15 minute bus ride to town.
I have no complaints whatsoever about Mango Villas, just a few suggestions.
1st Wi-Fi would be nice, 2nd a speaker system to connect ipod (i brought my own)
3rd a more modern flat screen TV.
But honestly i didnt mind not having Wi-Fi, could have survived just fine without a speaker system and the TV has plenty channels with good movies if thats your thing.
Mango Villas is excellent all round and is very good value for money!
Mango villas are beautiful and just the place to stay if you want peace and quite. Helen the owner keeps them well and is most helpful when you are booking on line. Paul who meets you at the villa when you arrive is brilliant and he often stops by to see if you are ok. The villas are clean and tidy and have everything you need. They are beautifully cleaned by June and she does a great job. The only thing we would have liked was an internet connection and the ability to play DVD's on the TV. The pool is lovely and the gardens are nice to relax in. Jolly Harbour is only 5 minutes away by car with a great supermarket selling everything you can think of and a chemist. You do need a car to explore the Island and there are so many beautiful beaches and things to do. A visit to English Harbour is recommended and you really must eat at Carmichaels and Sheer Rocks. The steak house and both italians in Jolly Harbour are also good.
We will definately be going back to Antigua and staying at Mango Villas. I've been recommending them to all my friends and work colleagues.
This bungalow is equipped with all necessities and was well maintained. The only thing we missed was an internet connection. The location is great, nice and quiet, close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Antigua.
This property is an absolute recommendation if you choose to stay away from the big resorts and plan your own itinerary. We certainly suggest you rent a car to explore the island.
Helen has a wonderful place here, Paul was gracious (lol you adventerous man you) as could be and the neighbour Faye was also very helpful. Joan, the lady that cleans is fantastic, she can get a grease stain out of clothing and her rates for laundry are exceptional (this coming from a Canadian) The villa is in a great location and even though there wasn't a coffee maker the stay was perfect. If the insects like to bite you be sure to take your bug spray, the mosquitos didn't like me but the seemed to enjoy my hubbie. The villa was having some upgrades done just after we left although they really weren't necessary. Renting a car is certainly suggested, this island is easy to drive and with the car you can see alot more beaches that are no where near crowded. I certainly have plans to revisit and stay at the Mango Villa.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 weeks in Antigua at Mango Villa. We hired a jeep from St Johns Car Hire and picked it up at the airport, very quick and easy and we were soon on our way to our villa, about 30 minutes drive away, thank goodness for Helen's instructions as there are minimal signs, Leroys Car Wash was on the right and not the left as described in the instructions. We did not bother with CDW, it was very expensive and the roads, although pot-holed, are not busy. Before we left the airport we rang Paul (the manager) and he was waiting for us at the villa on our arrival with the keys and air conditioning in action and gave us a quick tour of the villla. The only issue we had was trying to light the gas oven later on, there are pilot lights we did not know about. The villa is spacious with 2 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (the sinks are half size but the shower effective and warm) and air con in each of the main rooms, the lounge one not quite as effective as the bedrooms. The kitchen is adequately fitted but there were only 3 large plates instead of 4 and some of the mugs cracked. The lounge has 2 large sofas and an old fashioned large TV, there are plenty of books to read and some games in the drawer of the TV stand. It would have been good to have a radio though. The bed was comfortable but the sheet had a hole in it and some of the pillows and cushions a bit smelly, I think from some hot heads. The shared pool was a good size, kept clean and was very refreshing. We had a couple of power cuts whilst we were there, this means no electicity or running water so remember to keep a candle handy. the electric gates were not always working but I think are ok now .We drank bottled water or boiled water. Jolly Harbour is 5 minutes car drive away with a large supermarket with lots of imported goods as well as local varieties, a pharmacy and bars and restaurants, We booked a couple of catarmaran trips, one to Barbuda (don't forget the travel pills), the frigate bird santuary was well worth the 2 hour choppy sea trip and the other was an island tour and snorkelling with inclusive food and drinks, beware the sun and rum punches though! We also pushed the boat out and took a helicopter tour of Montserrat, an amazing sight to say the least. There are amazing beaches all over the island, you need to be adventurous and go down those little dirt tracks and you will be thoroughly rewarded. Many local restaurants to suit all pockets, loved Sheer Rocks and Gibson
The villa is fully furnished and very well equipped in a prime location. It is situated with the beach just a short 10 minute walk away. Here is the perfect place to let the world go by or conveniently located to explore the beautiful island of Antigua. There are excellent beaches and brilliant facilities close enough to get to.Jolly Harbour and all its shopping facilities are but 5 minute drive away.
