Dawn Spencer and Tom Zirkelbach moved from the Chicago area in 2003 to open the LoveStone Inn Bed and Breakfast on Smith Mountain Lake. Both had careers with corporations in the Chicago area. After 27 years of the Chicago winters, they choose to semi-retire in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, on this 22,000 acre manmade lake. Dawn's family is from Roanoke and introduced them to Smith Mountain Lake in 1996. It was their goal to enjoy the mild seasons of the mountain lake while running a B&B. Dawn still has a consulting firm. She is responsible for the marketing and customer side of the B&B business. Her passion is cooking and gardening. Tom runs the operations side of the B&B business and enjoys boating and fishing. Their two sons join them at Smith Mountain Lake from Chicago and the D.C. area. They have a Shih Tzu named Pebbles which loves the lake also.
Tom purchased this estate in 2002
Why Tom chose Huddleston
Dawn’s family is from Roanoke and she watched the lake form in the 60’s. She always felt Central Virginia was “home” and after 27 years “up north”, Dawn and Tom welcomed the peacefulness of the lake area and the activities Smith Mountain Lake has to offer. By having a total of 5 bedrooms, we have always had plenty of room for family and friends. Being 45 minutes from Roanoke and Lynchburg, we have easy access to healthcare, airports (for our traveling bug) and commuter service into the Northern Virginia and DC area. Starting in 2012, LoveStone Inn will become a luxury vacation rental instead of a B&B. Our guest will still enjoy the fabulous amenities LoveStone Inn and Smith Mountain Lake have to offer, just for longer stays.
