Don Piper purchased this house in 1986
This is my home. I hardly ever used the lower portion so I have had it professionally converted. It is a wonderful place to stay if you like quiet, a valley view and quick access to San Francisco.
Lots of natural light, tranquil views, large patio area for sitting out side, jump in the pool to cool off in the summer or sit in front of the outdoor gas fireplace.
This is an excellent place to wind down and rest. We visited are kids here and used Don's car wow what a ride. Very clean place we used the pool and did laundry. Why would anyone stay at a hotel? We will stay here everytime were in California. Thanks Don for everything.
This is an excellent short term rental in a great location. Very quiet and serene. Don was a great host, showed us all the ropes. Next time we'll be veterans! The car was a great option for us as we travel to the East Bay on business frequently and come in one car. This came in really handy. We will definitely be back.
This was a very clean, well kept single bedroom / kitchenette / living room location. Very easy access to the wine country, San Francisco, Sacramento, anywhere in the Bay Area. This was near the Lafayette BART station, with easy access to all freeways. Owner was very nice and helpful showing us all the extras in the condo. He has a nice vehicle to rent also at this location if you want to rent it and go to the wine country.
I had a unique situation where I didn't know my exact length of stay - Don was very understanding and said to just keep him posted as I stayed. It's a great place to stay, Don is a great guy and I really enjoyed my time there!
In May 2014, my husband and I decided on a spur of the moment getaway week in San Francisco. With only a three day window before departure, we looked through VRBO for an affordable comfortable quiet place to stay and found five likely places in and around San Francisco. Don was the only owner flexible enough/willing to accommodate our extremely late (due to an hour plus delayed connecting flight) arrival. Don also proved to be patient and cheerful when we encountered problems with VRBO's payment system. We arrived there shortly before 2 am. The place was wonderful. Everything we could have hoped for in our travel-weary state. It was quiet, clean and even elegant with an electric fireplace and granite countertops in the neat little full kitchen. We were relieved to see the place look exactly like VRBO's pictures. Later the same morning after a little sleep, Don greeted us warmly and showed us the ins/outs operating the heater, fireplace and TV setup. Over our stay Don encouraged us to view the place as completely ours. In fact we only saw him a few times but he made himself immediately available to us when we needed to ask questions about the area or something in the rental. Everything--rental and backyard/pool area--was gorgeous. We felt like we had stumbled onto our own little oasis. All conveniently situated near San Francisco and environs. For us it was perfect for our excursions to Sonoma, Muir Woods, San Francisco and even Lake Tahoe. I have only two complaints, if they can even truly be called that. 1) I was really looking forward to swimming in the pool, which was covered by a retractable pool covering. However when I uncovered the pool, at Don's urging, the pool bottom looked a little grungy. Grungy enough that I decided not to go swimming. Full disclosure: I'm not a dedicated swimmer (okay, actually I'm a nervous swimmer), so it doesn't take much to change my mind about taking a dip. 2) On our last evening, Don had a visitor who was extremely loud, which was shocking after such a quiet and enjoyable stay. The noise lasted off and on a couple of hours but died down by the time we went to bed. Our stay was just what the doctor ordered. We'll book it again and promise not to cook Joey. :D We now consider it our place in California.
Apartment was cool clean and prepared on arrival. Excellent facilities, well equipped, especially bathroom with strong shower. Owner available when required. Beautiful quiet location with lovely view and outside fireplace.
The Lafayette Reservoir is very close for long walks, biking, running or hiking, less than 9 miles from UC Berkeley (about 16 minutes at non-rush hour), less than 20 miles from San Francisco, less than 45 miles from the wine country, and about 3 hours from Lake Tahoe.
