A completly equiped three bedroom heritage farmhouse located on the Richardson Ranch. This special place on the banks of the Tlell river is an easy walk to the beach.
This comfy littlle house is a labour of love, it was our Grampa and gramma's farm house. We have given it a face lift but have left the charm intact. We encourage our guests to poke around , open cupboards and draws, use Gramma's old cook books, play the guitar you find by the couch or do one of her jigsaw puzzles. Pick fresh herbs or vegetables from the garden, enjoy a feed of farm fresh eggs or catch a salmon or trout before breakfast. Walk to the beach to pick agates, explore the tidal pools or watch the migrating waterfowl.
The house is fully functional with electric range, microwave and fridge along with a complete set of dishes, spices and linens. It can comfortably sleep five in two queen and one double bed. The fold out couch means there is room for eight in a pinch. One bathroom with shower and the origional clawfoot tub may be the limiting factor! There is a washer and dryer in the house for your conveniance. Satelite TV and DVD player are provided for your entertainment. WiFi is close by.
Located on the paved Highway 16, nearly half way between Skidegate ferry terminal and Masset, this site is ideal for ventureing out to explore both ends of Haida Gwaii.

I just got back home from a 1 month holiday on the Richardson Ranch in Tlell. It is seriously the best place I`ve ever been. The landscape is breathtaking. You have a river packed with cutthroats, Stealheads and Coho (in fall), you`got a beautiful beach and the rainforest, all within a few minutes to walk. There`s mountains, nice small towns (I can recommend Queen Charlotte), unbelievable Hiking Trails (check out the Anvil Trail!) and we even went octopus hunting. Since we travelled without a car we went shopping at "Crow`s nest" a small shop/coffee-house located in Tlell, a 30 minute walk by the beach. You`ll find all you need for your everyday-life there and they make a delicious cheese cake. The Richardsons are the friendliest, nicest people you can imagine, very helpful whenever they can, and an excellent food deliverer also. Check out the beef jerky they sell in their shop!!! Also I ate the best steak I ever had. I bought it from them, and even though I cooked it myself it was unbelievable, and I am seriously not the best cook... ;-) The house is great too, sleeps easily 6 people, is very clean and comfortable. It is perfectly equipped, you`ll find all you need. You wake up to the sounds of nature and have your coffee while sitting in the front yard, watching the beautiful River Tlell. I can totally recommend this place!
I just returned from a wonderful week at Grandpa's Guesthouse. I felt like I had stepped back in time. The old ranch house was beautifully renovated, keeping the old fashioned styling yet had all the up to date amenities. I don't think I have ever slept so well. After spending the day walking along the beach, snooping through the local stores or just enjoying the fresh air, it was heavenly to crawl under the down comforter on a comfortable bed. All the beds even had homemade patchwork quilts. The kitchen was fully equipped for cooking and the BBQ was lovely for BBQing.
I highly recommend Grandpa's Guesthouse to anyone looking for a quiet get away to relax. BC Ferries and town is a short 35 min drive away. A small local stores is 5 min away for day to day food needs, and a hit of espresso too. The house is very quiet and comfortable. Perfect for reading on the couch or taking a well deserved nap. There was a TV with satellite but we never had a chance to make use of it. Too much relaxing to do. :)
The family was very welcoming and helpful. They are a wealth of information about the history of the ranch and activities to do in the area. They were also open to answering any and all my nosy questions in regards to the running of the cattle ranch. We had a blast watching the baby calves running through the fields. Way too cute! Farm fresh eggs was a nice treat as well.
I will most definitely be coming back again next year. I didn't want my week to end.
