Facilities include kitchen with fridge, microwave and cooker. Bed linen and towels provided. Washing machine. Ideal for touring the Silver Coast, historic Estremadura or Lisbon sightseeing. Only 5 mins from A8 motorway, 20min from coast and 35 minutes from Central Lisbon. Sintra, Cascais, Mafra, Obidos, Torres Vedra, Palmela and Golf at Estoril or Praia d’El Rey all within 1 hours drive. Horse Riding and Tennis within 5 minutes.
If you like peace and tranquility this is the place for you. The cottage is in a rural setting with access to extensive grounds and is clean and comfortable. Perfect for getting away from it all. On top of that, the hospitality of Alice and Stewart was wonderful. I have already recommended this property to friends.
We like Portugal and have been several times but we chose this location as an alternative to the touristy Algarve. It's situated about half an hour's drive north of Lisbon but that puts it into the rural Portugal where normal life takes place. Close by are scattered villages and bits of history. Not far away is the town of Malvera with its extensive street market with local leather goods; lots of bargain clothing and shoes; fresh fruit and veg from farms nearby; and the some of the wierdest fish not found in Tesco's back home!
The 'cottage' is situated on a largish small-holding a little away from the main house where the owners live. It is more than cottage size being the original farmhouse and has lots of original styling. So the combination means that you can stay at home and relax in the 'garden' and enjoy the peace ( and swim if you want ) or use the place as a base to travel near or far. LIsbon, the Atlantic coast and the historical palaces of Sintra and Mafra are easy days out by car. We did a bit of both - stay and away.
Stewart and Alice are more than happy to help out with local knowledge, the language and directions. Stewart will also regale with tales of dealing with Portuguese bureaucracy. The weather is great, being a scale up in temperature on back home in UK but still produced some rain - only warmer. However, Alice will tell you that unless it's 30 degrees, its cold.
A very enjoyable week all round.
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I had a very memorable stay. The cottage is a delight with a wonderful secluded terrace , a great place for breakfast with wonderful views. The house is well equipped and very clean and the area is delightfully different - a taste of the real Portugal. We had an especially good time at a local fiesta.
However my holiday could have been ruined as my suitcase failed to arrive with me! Alice and Stewart were so brilliant helping me keep track with the airline. Alice loaned me some clothes and provided me with a toothbrush etc. they also helped me by taking me to a nearby shopping outlet where I was able to get some essentials. The suitcase did catch up with me before I had to go home! As hosts they really went the extra mile and we're very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. As I said I had a great time. It's such a peaceful spot to unwind and recharge your batteries yet there is plenty to see and do around the area should you wish to. I have no hesitation in recommending this property to all my friends and family and hope to return again myself soon.
Would recommend this lovely place for anyone who wants to get away from it all but still have loads to see and do within a short distance. Have just come back from our second visit and already planning a third - and we never usually go back to the same place.
The cottage is very clean and well equipped and there is always something to see in the extensive grounds - the dogs are friendly and affectionate companions. The pool is cool and welcome after sightseeing or sunbathing and there is plenty of shady areas to sit with a book and a glass of something cold.
Alice and Stewart are wonderful hosts who do so much to ensure your stay is a good one - over and above expectations! They will offer good suggestions where to visit and will search for information about things to do locally if you so wish.
The little village shop is well stocked with basic needs (at supermarket prices) and the bus service, although not frequent, means you don't need to rent a car to get to Lisbon or Loures.
If you get a chance, the local village 'festas' are interesting and good fun as is the local market.
If you are looking for a cosy Country Cottage you have come to the right place. But if you are looking for a five star luxury Hotel you must look elsewhere.
The Cottage is well equipped it has everything you need. It is well maintained and kept clean.
You will experience a very relaxed atmosphere here. And Alice and Stewart are very hospitable and friendly hosts. They were keen to offer advice on what to see and where to go on tours.
Here you can discover a peaceful countryside and at the same time you are only a small drive away from Lisbon and the sea. It is a perfect jumping-off point for tours in the Lisbon region.
Our children also enjoyed playing with the dogs and looking for fresh eggs from the chickens.
The quiet village of Ribas de Cima is 25 mins North of Lisbon airport and Lisbon City Centre and with easy access to A1, A8 and A21 motorways making it ideal for exploring the host of local sights, including Sintra and its Royal Palaces, Cascais and Estoril resorts, the Atlantic coast, Ericeira and Mafra and the historic Bucelas wine region. Golf at Estoril and Praia d'el Rey about 1 hours drive. Horse riding and Tennis less than 1km away. For history buffs the property borders Wellington's 'Lines of Torres Vedras'.
Other Activities: Paintball and Laser quest at nearby 'Parque Aventura'
