Licciana Nardi Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Palazzo del Duca

There are places full of history and poetry…

This impressive ancient palace of the 17th century, also known as Palazzo del Duca, set on the historic main borgo of Tavernelle, in the unspoilt area of Lunigiana, North Tuscany, was a summer residence of Podestà and Este Family (Duke of Parma).

The palazzo has been recently restored preserving original features, like spacious living areas and terracotta floors, local blustone portals and doors, stunning vaults and a wonderful ancient stone staircase and even in a bedroom there is a fireplace, a 'must' for all the ancient Lords of the 1700.

The palazzo consists of 5 apartments finely renewed and nicely furnished with some pieces of antiques. It also has a large internal fenced, safe garden and a brand new in ground swimming pool.

Ideal location for weddings, family meetings, painting and photography workshop and special events.

Painting And Sculpturing Workshops with international artists and wine courses for every level.

Excellent in every respect

  • 5 of 5
This was our third stay here and our first as a couple rather than a family. We stayed in the Luni apartment (generous size for 4/5 people) which is contemporary in design and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed sitting on the mezzanine level, reading with a fine glass of wine. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom large. There is always plenty of hot water.
Mirella and Francesco make this a very special place to stay, not just with their initial welcome (it's like returning to see long lost friends) but their recommendations for places to visit and eat/ buy wine etc. A highlight of the stay is the communal meal Mirella makes for the guests which is taken al fresco . The food is typically regional and excellent. The natural wines served are very, very good. It is also very good value.
The area is vast for exploring, Cinque terre,, local towns/villages and the walks are definitely to be tried. There is a map shop in Licciana Nardi but we had bought ours in London. There is always something different to do if you wish. Then again, sitting around the pool drinking in the sun ad chatting is also a treat.
The other apartments are also very special - each one is unique. We had a look around the others on change over day - thank you Mirella for showing us around and allowing us to be nosey. Each time we return further enhancements have been made. Will we return again- oh yes! Car is recommended but there are a number of walks you can do from the doorstep plus Nella's bar and the Montagne Verde to eat are also best done a piedi.(on foot)

A great place with outstanding hospitality

  • 5 of 5
A very clean, spacious rooms, outstanding local places to eat, near to trains and great places to visit. You need a car but you will not be disappointed in places to visit. The owners are incredibly hospitable and we enjoyed our family visit. This place exceeded our expectations. My son Michael selected this place and kudos to him. Francesca knows wine and is very willing to help with a great choice and will help you with any thing you ask him. Thank you

Luin Apartment

  • 5 of 5
For the second year in succession we stayed in Luni apartment. The apartment is contemporary and the living/dining area is very spacious. The mezzanine lounge area is perfect for a quiet read or drinking and chatting. Bathroom huge!! Comfortable beds. The property itself was clean and well maintained. As in the first year we were warmly welcomed by Mirella and Francesco - more so in the second year; it was like visiting friends. Both can give lots of information on the local area and nothing is too much trouble it seems. Tavernelle itself is well placed for visiting lesser known but amazing places which often are not found in (British) guidebooks - maybe I'll write one! Beaches are a short drive away, Cinque Terre is well worth a trip and I would advise taking the train from Aulla - you don’t have to worry about parking then! Pisa, Lucca, Viareggio and other places are all accessible too.
What we loved about the apartment and location was the feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle but not being isolated. There are fabulous walks around. BUT what made it all special were Mirella's evenings when she cooked for the guests. Wonderful, local food, excellent wine, and a great chance to chat with other guests, most of whom were other Europeans. One particular evening we had German, Dutch, Russian Scottish and English guests. Great for discussions over bruschetta, local pecorino, salted olives , wine etc . A bread van comes most mornings – listen out for the horn. For supermarket shopping though you do need to drive to Aulla where you have a few to choose from
The pool is a good size for the apartment but is cool. Herbs grow in the garden with lavender and makes for a heavenly aroma. There is a local bar within easy walking distance and does good rustic food (portions are huge, be very hungry or share!).
Would we recommend - yes and we have. Will we go back? For sure.

Authentic taste of tuscany in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the palazzo in May of this year and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend taking the tuscan cooking course and eating at least one meal at the palazzo. The owner is an awesome cook and the food was all fresh and from the area as well as mostly organic. It was so nice to be able to relax and enjoy our meal in privacy each evening which allowed the children to get up and move around if they needed to. We weren't stuck in a stuffy restaurant. The wine selection wasn't bad either! The man of the house is very knowledgable about wine and took us on a private tour of two vineyards. We have two young children and were able to see everything we wanted. I can't say enough about the owners and their amazing hospitality. My sister wanted to stay somewhere with a lot of character and old world charm and that is exactly what we got. We did have one problem with the shower in our apartment and within minutes of us notifying the owners it was fixed. The pool is a nice size and brand new, but it was still too cold for us to enjoy it in May. You are about 30-45 minutes drive to Cinque Terre which we didn't mind as we liked staying in the mountainside and visiting the seaside during the day. We also visited Pisa and Luca from here which was about 1.5 hours. Not a bad day trip. We really enjoyed this trip and hope you find yourself there soon!

For Large or small family holidays.

  • 5 of 5
Our family group (18 Adults and 1 child - age range 2 to 90!) rented the whole Palazzo. The resident owners were very helpful, and well organised (if we required anything).
Mirella and Francesco provided, on request, some delicious local Tuscan meals for us on 3 occasions (including good Chianti wines).
Francesco organised a very interesting wine-tasting tour to Cinque Terre for some of us on one day.
Each appartment was comfortable and well set-up. However a few people in our party thought a washing machine for the use of visitors would have been helpful.

Tuscany is everybody's favourite travel destination, and the Lunigiana is the part of Tuscany that's undiscovered.

Lunigiana is the part of Tuscany that links up with the Gulf of Poets and Liguria to the west and Emilia-Romagna, gastronomic heart of Italy, to the north. Whilst it is dominated by the Apuan Alps (from which Michelangelo insisted that his marble had to come) and the Appennines (made famous by Eric Newby in his book 'Love and War in the Appennines'), it has beautiful sandy beaches on its coast at places such as Marinella and Marina di Massa. It truly does have mountains, rock pools, sun and sea. Lunigiana is a small homogeneous region that offers a mild climate and a sweet atmosphere, perfect for resting and holidays. The millenial story of its history are visible, from the mysterious “statue stele” to the Roman ruins, from old churches and medieval castles to the baroque palaces.

Untouched by industrialization damages Lunigaina area means holiday in harmony with nature

Other Activities: Rafting, painting, photography, sculpture, beauty spa, wine tastings, wine tour to Cinque Terre, Italian lessons.
