Photos and Description of the Montauroux vacation villa rental
Modern villa, big open plan living area, garden, views, summer kitchen, wi fi

This modern and newly furnished villa is set on the side of a hill with views across a small valley towards the mountains. It has two double and one twin bedrooms, with new, comfortable beds. The fully equipped kitchen includes a pizza oven, dishwasher, and there is a utility room with a fridge and washing machine.

The top terrace includes a grassed area, and a terrace below has a private sun deck, heated swimming pool, and outside kitchen with gas BBQ, fridge and hob. This is ideal for self-catering summer holidays. There is parking for 2-3 cars to the front, with large locking gates for security.

The property is securely fenced, making it safe for young children. The house is in a No Through Road, with little traffic. It is a very quiet location and yet the centre of Montauroux is only a short (7 minute) walk away, where there are bakers, a butcher, a bank, a pharmacy, boutique, post office, newsagent, grocery store, bar and restaurants.

The villa is not easy for those who struggle with stairs.

Village location: The villa is situated a short walk ( just over 5 minutes) from the centre of the village of Montauroux. This has restaurants and a range of shops, with stunning views over the Esterel hills from the central square. There is no real need to drive anywhere once you have arrived!

During the summer Montauroux is famous for its music festivals to suit most tastes, often in the central square.

The butcher speaks some English, and will make burgers from fresh beef in front of you. He has excellent sausages, and other meat, for the BBQ.

There is a market in the village every Tuesday selling fresh fish, cheese, meat, fruit, vegetables and clothing.

Several days a week locals play Boules in the square. They attract quite a crowd!

Wandering down to the village in the morning for a croissant and a coffee in the sun really can't be beaten!

For those people who like to keep in touch with home, English and other daily newspapers are printed in France and sold in the newsagent on the current day.

There are two boutiques in the village selling up to the minute French fashion!

The Area: There are a number of old, walled villages from Grasse along the Fayence valley. Fayence is the biggest, with a large selection of restaurants to suit all budgets. Seillan is small, but absolutely charming.

There are a selection of supermarkets and regular shops, with a mixture of opening hours. Leclerc is a short drive from the villa, and has a wide selection of produce, in particular a stunning fish counter.

The Terre Blanche golf and spa centre is also a short drive away. The spa facilities are breathtaking, and the two golf courses are of championship standard. The pricing reflects this! Less expensive golf can be found at St Endreol, or several other courses towards Grasse and Cannes.

Lac St Cassien - a 10 minute drive - is said to be the biggest lake in France, and provides all kinds or water based activities. Many visitors prefer it to the beach! Parking can be a problem in peak season.

Beaches are a half hours drive away.

Fayence is a major gliding centre for enthusiasts

Children are very welcome. There is a safety gate at the top of the stairs, two swings and a little slide in the play area as well as toys for the pool. There are two tiny outdoor chairs for our young visitors. Very small children may find the steps to the pool area difficult.

The elderly may also find the stairs and steps steep.

The toilets are upstairs and in the summer kitchen area.

There is plenty of welcome shade outside, some provided by the many olive trees and some by umbrellas.

There are endless attractions to suit all tastes. Lac St Cassian, a huge freshwater lake is very close by, with water sports, hiking trails and many restaurants with stunning views across the water.

Driving to the north is the massive Gorge du Verdun, with water sports, hiking etc. It's a bit of a hairy drive but worth it when you get there.

For those with a historical bent, Montauroux is one of several fortified villages that are set in the hills, well away from the coast (and pirates in years gone by). These villages have a large range of cultural activities, particularly in the season, and offer an eclectic selection of restaurants, from family pizza parlours to two star Michelin cuisine.

A half hour drive will take you within reach of many beaches and the Riviera with all that it has to offer. Take your credit card!

Italy is only an hour away. Great for a day out. Go for lunch overlooking the sea!

Other Activities: Fun activities on St Cassien lake. Montauroux music festival in the summer.

Golf: Terre Blanche, St Endreol, Grasse and Cannes provide good tests of golf.

Terre Blanche, on the luxury hotel complex some 15 minutes away is the nearest and most stunning, with friendly and experienced staff and practice facilities and a course to die for.

Lovely stay at Villa Lilyrose

5 of 5
Submitted: November 29, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
Stayed at Villa Lilyrose for the half-term week in October. Easy directions from the airport. Lovely setting, neat, tidy, clean, comfortable, spacious and welcoming property with ample grounds.

Well equipped with a great pizza oven in the kitchen which we tried out with varying degrees of success (our lack of skill rather than the capability of the oven!). Beautiful surroundings and lucky with the weather - mostly 21 degrees and sunny, which can't be bad for mid-October. Even managed to sunbathe a bit!

We had two teenage boys with us (son and friend) who made full use of the outdoor heated pool. Hard to get them out at meal times!

Location also great! A good starting point from which to visit Grasse, Cannes, St Tropez etc. The village of Montauroux was charming, with friendly boulangerie and boucherie and a lovely morning coffee form the local cafe - became a morning habit!

Had a lovely meal at the Marina restaurant in the village and also at Auberge Fleurie a little further away (details supplied by owner)..

All in all a very relaxing break staying in a lovely villa. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
Owner's Response: Thanks for these lovely comments.

The locals say the sun shines 300 days in a year. I have just come back from a week there, where I was in shirtsleeves during the middle of the day - although it did get colder at night.

Great Villa, Great Region

5 of 5
Submitted: October 31, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
This was our first family trip to the South of France, but it will not be our last!!
Villa Lilyrose is both the perfect base for a family (we have a 12 year old son and a 9 year old daughter) to explore the region and also a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
We have stayed in a number of villas in Spain, and Lilyrose is high up the list in terms of facilities, comfort and location. The outdoor kitchen, pool, grassed terrace, olive and walnut trees and beautiful location allow Lilyrose to give you a real taste of the Mediterranean life.
A car is essential to enjoy what the region has to offer. A few of the highlights we visited were;
• Cannes – lunch is not as expensive as you might think if you look for it
• St Cassien Lake – rent an electric motor boat and take a swim
• Feyance – visit the market and pick up a “take away” Paella
• Frejus – nice beach, easy parking, nice marina to daydream about the boats ( we also visited the Zoo on the outskirts of Frejus – watch out for the spitting elephant!!
• Grasse – the centre of the perfume industry (and it has a great Indian Restaurant!!)
• Gonfaron – visit the Tortoise Sanctuary – great couple of hours spent there
Don’t ignore the village on your doorstep – a short walk in the morning brings fresh baguettes and croissants. In the evening, you have the choice of restaurants serving pizzas to steaks and many other things in between, as well as some entertainment in the town square on some evenings.
This is a great villa and a great region – we recommend it and will be back.

Perfect holiday place

5 of 5
Submitted: September 1, 2010 Stayed: July 2010
Vila Lily Rose is just a fabulous base for a holiday. We were 4 adults there for a week in July.
It's an easy drive from Nice airport and there are plenty of places to visit within a comfortable driving distance. We didn't get around as much as we thought we would because the lure of our own private pool area was just too tempting! Looking out over wooded hilside, it was a lovely quiet place simply to chill out.
The village of Montauroux has a few bars and restaurants and the basic shops that you need. All the locals were friendly and helpful. It's a short walk down from the villa's secluded location. The slope up takes a bit more puff though! The hypermarket is about a 10 minute drive and there are many other accessible places to eat. The villa's own dining areas - inside and outside - are also lovely for a night in.
Overall, the villa is beautifully clean, comfortable and well-equipped. It is very accurately described in the published information and the additional details received later on.
Like other reviewers, we would definitely like to go back - and there can't be much better recommendation than that!

Fabulous autumn break

5 of 5
Submitted: December 2, 2009 Stayed: October 2009
Our stay at Villa Lilyrose during the autumn half term break was lovely. The Villa is beautifully located and is a very short and healthy walk to the little town centre. Our children 12 and 8 enjoyed trying their French on the local shop keepers who were very friendly and encouraging with their efforts. The Villa itself is extremely comfortable and wonderfully furnished and like other guests mastering the Pizza oven was fun for all. The garden kitchen area and BBQ located on the lower terrace by the Pool works well and it was nice to be able to cook outside in late October.

The weather at this time of year was still in the early twenties, this was perfect for the children and comfortable for walking around some of the other pretty villages and towns in the region. This was our first stay in this magnificent part of France, and we would recommend Villa Lilyrose as the ideal location to start exploring it.

Magnificent villa

5 of 5
Submitted: September 6, 2009 Stayed: August 2009
Recently returned from a 2 week stay with a family of five. We were so impressed when we arrived by the quality of the villa-really tastefully decorated and furnished; very peaceful spot at the end of the cul de sac with views over the valley and lots of trees. Loved the fact that you could walk into the village-fresh croissants every morning; lively bar with seats around the village square, market once a week. We were lucky to be there for the guitar festival but there always seemed to be something going on.
So many different places to sit and relax at the villa-top and bottom terrace, lovely sunbathing area by the pool. Fantastic area to eat outside next to BBQ and outdoor kitchen-fridge there was really useful. Also enjoyed cooking in the pizza oven, although it was quite hard to get the temperature just right!
Leclerc supermarket close by was excellent. So many places to visit- went to Monaco( parked in Cannes and took the train) all the local villages(lovely restaurants in Fayence and Seillans)Lac St.Cassien(good fun on the pedaloes!) a vineyard near Seillans(tourist office in Montauroux very helpful) and twice to the magnificent Gorges de Verdon(roads quite hairy!) for kayaking and canyoning!
Would love to return one day.
