A must to see is the Russian Orthodox Church, Villa Nobel, Villa Ormond and the famous San Remo Casino.
San Remo is the town of art, culture, and sports: fishing, diving, canoeing, sailing, whale-watching, wind surfing, and motor boating - together with golfing, riding, swimming, baseball, and fitness facilities. The old town area has a rich medieval heritage.
The modified cathedral of San Siro originally dates back to the thirteenth century. The interior preserves a Crucifix by Maragliano and a canvas by Pancalino showing San Siro surrounded by other saints.
A little history of the Castello & San Remo:
On April 19, 1920, the First World War Allies leaders, working through the League of Nations, gathered at the Castello Devachan in San Remo, Italy to carve up Turkey and parts of the Middle East. With the last dusk of the International Peace Conference, the conferees granted France the mandate for both Syria and Lebanon. The British received the mandate for Iraq, and also Palestine, under a provision creating a Jewish homeland.
The Allied Heads of State, including the UK Prime Minister, Lloyd George, the French & Italian Presidents, Millerand and Nitti, actually held their meetings in the part of the Castello that is now our apartment, where they discussed the various territorial problems, including the general framework of the Turkish peace treaty.
We have a set of the minutes of that Conference & will gladly email a copy to any guest booking a stay in our apartment.
A famous US painter has painted a large canvas of the Conference, and this now hangs in the entrance hallway.
