The Royal Forest of Dean is a beautiful and unique area of South-West England with a magical and mysterious quality to it.The area was once a royal hunting ground for Norman kings.It has long been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB). J K Rowling grew up in the Forest and gained much of her inspiration for the Harry Potter adventures from the Forest's enchanting and mystical atmosphere.
The area is perfect for walkers, birdwatchers, horse-riders, cyclists and moutain bikers with designated areas for all. Tourist attractions include Puzzlewood, Go-Ape, the St Pierre golf course, Offasdyke walk, Clearwell Caves, Shambles Victorian Village, Dick Whittington Farm park, Taurus Crafts, Dean Heritage Centre, Symmonds Yat (seven counties and peregrins can be observed here); the Nagshead Nature Reserve, the National Birds of Prey Centre, Monmouth Canoe Hire. There is even llama trekking and mule and carriage rides. Just 30 mins by car from the beatiful Wye Valley.
