Bagni di Lucca Villa Rental Photos and Description

Le Mura Vacation Rental in Tuscany with Heated Pool NR Lucca Sleeps from 2 - 11

'Le Mura' is a perfect vacation rental with a private solar heated pool in Tuscany. This holiday rental with pool in Tuscany near Lucca above the spa town of Bagni di Lucca is a real family home.

It has been lovingly restored preserving all the wooden beams and cotto floors. It is decorated in the traditional way with a simple white wash except where a piece of original fresco was uncovered.

The house is the owners' home and furnished in a mixture of antiques and contemporary furniture.

This large traditional farmhouse dates back to 1600. It is set in two and a half acres amongst vines and olive groves above the celebrated spa town of Bagni di Lucca.

The house has an idyllic setting, commanding a majestic view over the Serchio and Lima Valleys and across nine chains of mountains. In the foreground medieval villages nestle on the olive clad hillsides.

All the rooms enjoy this wonderful view.

About Celia & Enzo

I would like to introduce us. My name is Celia, my husband Enzo (short for Vincenzo), and our daughter is called Isabella. We are an Anglo Italian family and Le Mura is our country home. We split our time between Lucca and Benabbio. We have lived and worked in the area for many years having met and married in London. I have been very lucky to have a unique experience, as I have always been treated as a local by the village and in our Piazza in Lucca. We are very happy to help our guests in any way to make their holiday as perfect as possible.

Celia & Enzo purchased this villa in 2000

Why Celia & Enzo chose Bagni di Lucca

We chose Le Mura for many reasons, first and foremost for the beauty of the house and its magical position. We bought the house as a family home not an investment therefore the good road up to the property was a big plus especially in winter. The fact that the house is a few minutes walk from a village that has a very active community was important for us because we didn’t want a village without a stable population. Benabbio is one of the few villages of its size to have bars and restaurants and a wonderful food shop as well as newsagent not to mention the ruins of a castle. The house itself has lots of space and large rooms and the farmhouse kitchen complete with fireplace and stone font that I always dreamed of. The views from every room and the fact that the house had been conserved rather than done up meant that all the character was still there and the rooms are large giving lots of individual space when friends visit. Le Mura’s position near Lucca, Florence and Pisa was also very important as we could enjoy the beauty of the countryside with easy access to important centres. This area has so much beauty that I will never run out of places to discover. My husband wanted our daughter to speak a pure Italian and this part of Tuscany is still unspoilt but not remote. Enzo being the Italian chose the area and balanced rural living with access to cities to airports. Lucca our local city is a delight.

What makes this villa unique

Le Mura Villa is your quintessential stone Tuscan Farmhouse with terracotta floors and chestnut beams. The farmhouse kitchen for me is the hub of the house. It was love at first sight. The rooms are large and all share the most amazing view of the Garfagnana national park and Carrara Mountains. The position near Florence, Pisa and Lucca and therefore hubs of transport and city life. Secluded without being remote, near a village which is full of year round residents with lots of families with small children. The joy of being able to walk to the village for shopping and restaurants but be far enough out to have privacy. The perfect position for the pool, shade as well as sun in the grounds and of course our very own olive grove and vines. I love to sit by the pool and watch the sunset over the mountains and dine with the fireflies dancing around while on a summer evening. I also love to curl up by the wood-burning stove in winter with a book and lock the world out.

Heavenly house in stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

Villa Le Mura is a really beautiful house in a stunning setting with fantastic views. It is wonderfully spacious - huge kitchen with lovely long table - with a magnificent long rustic table outside from which the glorious views and sunsets can be enjoyed. Inside the house is very relaxed, very comfortable. The short walk to the historic village of Bennabio is very enjoyable, through the olive groves with more lovely views. In the village you have an excellent restaurant where we ate twice - great food and very good value. The village shop is also well stocked, excellent salami and cheese as well as fruit and veg, and all the basics. There are lovely circular walks from the house. Getting to Bagni di Lucca is easy and from there you can reach Lucca, Florence and Pisa easily by train. The three students in our party had a great day trip to Florence. At Bagni you can have a steam bath in cave with a natural hot spring used by the Romans. The gardens at Le Mura are a delight, and the generous decking and patio by the lovely pool have room for multiple sun loungers. If you like old stone walls, herbs in the garden, roses and jasmine, sunsets, views and access to lovely Italian villages and towns, don't hesitate! Celia and Enzo were also very kind and helpful on arrival, giving us lots of suggestions for things to do, and local history.

A bit of heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Mura! Celia and Enzo could not have been more accomodating! They were always available to answer our many questions, offering advice and giving us detailed directions. They gave us a warm welcome when we arrived and made it a point to be there in the wee hours of the morning of our departure to wish us farewell. We quickly felt like they were good friends rather than just our hosts. It was evident that they take great pride in their home as it was very well cared for inside and out.

The farmhouse is very charming and quaint, nicely updated while retaining many original and unique features. Every window offered a stunning view of the valley and several mountain ranges. There were six in our party and more than enough room for all of us to stretch out and relax. We enjoyed a cozy fire in the evenings and woke up to church bells ringing, cool breezes and sun streaming through the windows.

The short walk to the beautiful little town of Bennabio was along a gorgeous shepherd's path. (we even picked sweet cherries along the way). The local restaurant was fabulous with very reasonable prices. There is also a pizza shop nearby that was very good as well.

I highly reccomend that you opt for the fabulous homemade meal prepared by Enzo with Celia setting out the perfect touches at the gorgeous outdoor table!

Bennabio and Bagni Di Lucca are off the beaten track and offer a wonderful insight to the beauty and culture of Tuscany without the tourist crowds. When not exploring the area, we relaxed by the pool, enjoying a glass of wine while taking in the breath taking views! I will cherish the memories made there forever!

We hope to visit again someday, next time for two weeks, one week was just not enough

Perfect peace in Tuscan hills

  • 5 of 5

Le Mura is a beautiful, comfortable Tuscan farmhouse in huge grounds with enviable views of the mountains. It is the perfect spot to relax in - it really felt like home to us and we couldn't have enjoyed our holiday more.

We were two families travelling together and the house suited us perfectly with each couple having privacy at opposite ends of the house and all the teenagers together in the top floor bedrooms.

The kids spent most of their holiday in the pool or hanging out together in the beautiful gardens. They especially loved to visit the local pizzeria on their own.

Celia and Enzo couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming; from the basket of groceries waiting for us on arrival, showing us how everything worked, great advice about places to visit and making reservations for us in restaurants.

They arranged for the local restaurant to deliver a delicious meal for us on the first night - a welcome treat after a days travel.

We would wholeheartedly recommend le Mura and can't wait to return

Wonderful holiday experience

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a 21 day visit to Italy which included stays in Florence, Lake Como and here at Le Mura. The Le Mura villa was easily the highlight of my stay.

The villa sits in a fairly secluded location high in the hills above Bagni di Lucca. We were a group of 8 which the villa comfortably accommodated. We enjoyed the pool almost daily, walks to Benabbio, cooking several meals in the well equipped kitchen and outdoor grill, trips to Bagni di Lucca and its local market and a group meal at the local ristorante in Benabbio. In addition the villa is equipped with a washer which we used several times.

Celia and Enzo are terrific hosts who were always available to provide suggestions as well as arranging for a prepared meal and an initial grocery order upon our arrival. On our last day we visited Lucca and witnessed the beautiful Volto Santo a celebration and procession that has been a part of Lucca’s history for over a thousand years. Celia and Enzo were able to get our party a reservation for dinner on this very busy night in the heart of Lucca at Paris Boehme where we enjoyed a meal (served with a special flair by Louis) prior to the evenings annual festivities.

I highly recommend a stay at LeMura and look forward to returning on a future visit.

Gorgeous Tuscan Farmhouse in a fabulous setting

  • 5 of 5

Le Mura is just about the perfect house for those of us for whom peace, beauty, views and comfort are key hopes for a holiday. Located in the hills above Bagni di Lucca, through winding tree-lined Tuscan roads, Le Mura sits proudly and imposingly within its large grounds of wild and cultivated plant-life, a garden of discovery, secluded from others and yet only a 10 minute walk to the local village of Benabbio. There you will find 2 excellent restaurants, a shop serving local produce and essentials, and an almost ubiquitous friendly welcome. Celia and Enzo are welcoming but unobtrusive owners, clearly proud of their house, and always happy to offer friendly advice, and, on one memorable occasion, a feast worthy of the name. The pool is located close to the house, and our teenagers were happy to spend most of their time around there, despite the proximity of the array of classical cities, towns and hill-top villages, visits to which could, if this is your favour, easily occupy a full holiday. We found the beach, recommended by our hosts, just over an hour away, on the last day, and a repeat visit will surely find us spending more than a couple of hours there. For us, this was a charming house and a memorable respite from our normal lifestyles, and our thanks are heartfelt for Celia and Enzo for enabling it to be so.

Going on the internet, renting a Tuscan farmhouse and bringing family from the west coast, the east coast and the middle of the United States to a family gathering for two weeks in Italy takes a great deal of courage. My anxieties ran high until I arrived at Le Mura and I saw that it was everything I had hoped for and more. The cherries were ripe on the tree, the roses in profuse bloom. Sunshine, fig trees fruiting, olive groves: it was beautiful. All of us had a vacation and a reunion we will never forget. The old farmhouse was very comfortable and we felt we were living in Italy not just traveling through. Enzo and Celia were perfect landlords - there when we needed them but never intrusive. Our first Saturday, Enzo and Celia prepared a feast for us that would have pleased the Michelin guide editor. We had a spectacular evening meal on a terrace high in the hills above Lucca. It was a wonderful introduction to Le Mura and began the vacation of a lifetime.
