It is also possible to follow footpaths from the Old Village to the small coves around the south of the island. They are all different and all beautiful, with none of the development seen on other islands. A few have a good taverna for lunch by the sea. There are scenic walking trails leading to deserted coves backed by pine forest. From June to September little taxi boats leave Patiitiri to various beaches along the island. It is also possible to hire a small motorboat in Patitiri. As part of a Marine Park the sea is clean and crystal clear.
