I am originally from North Wales and have lived and worked in Spain and another part of France before moving here in the Haute Savoie. The hamlet I now live in is close to many ski resorts, skiing being one the many activities I like to take part in. I also cycle, walk and paraglide, this being the perfect area for activities.
Having spent many trips in this region, either skiing or paragliding or climbing in earlier years, it seemed a good idea to live here permanently. This chalet offered a good size of property with amazing views and access to the ski resorts close by as well as motorways and shops for more practical day to day living.
The chalet has many reasons why my husband and I love it so much. We renovated it over a period of three years so very proud of what we have achieved. When we first saw it, it looked sad and unloved but even then it had charm and the views which never change. Now it is a fully functioning chalet with two separate modern apartments, large gardens and orchard. At night the badgers come to raid the fallen walnuts and by day the woodpeckers manage to make off with a few too! St Sigismond is a small hamlet with lovely views and clean air.
Close to a variety of top quality ski resorts that in the summer enjoy mountain biking, walking, mountaineering, rock climbing, paragliding, Via Ferrata, horse riding, cycling , golf, swimming, rafting, national parks for bird and animal watching. The town of Cluses is close by offering a wide variety of shops and railway station as well as access to major motorways system. Samoens, a beautiful, traditional French Savoyard village is just fifteen minutes away, Chamonix and Mont Blanc 40 minutes, the beautiful historical town of Annecy with its lake only takes an hour driving through beautiful countryside. Close to Grand Massif ski domain and the friendly village of Les Carroz; Portes du Soleil ski domain with Morzine and its mountain biking centre as well as all the Mont Blanc domain that consists of Megeve, St Gervais and Chamonix, the mountain town that has its own unique atmosphere. Geneva is only an hour away and is really worth a visit. Beautiful calm countryside all year round.

St Sigismond is central to all the villages that make up the Grand Massif with Les Carroz less than fifteen minutes away, Flaine itself a further twenty minutes away. Morillon takes fifteen minutes to drive to with Samoens another five minutes on. This area offers a massive 265 kms of pistes with runs from very easy to quite hard black. One of the most enjoyable is La Piste des Cascades - The Cascade Slope - which descents between the Grandes Platieres summit of Flaine and Sixt in the next valley, the Giffre Valley. This is 14 kms long and passes through forest and mountain pasture, finishing at a lovely bar and bus stop to bring you back round to Samoens. A lovely day out for the whole family. There is a variety of off piste skiing and this must be taken seriously - look out for the security signs. Come and see for yourself!
Tour de France. In 2013 le Tour was 100 years old and it was a very big event. There were siginficant stages in this region starting with the major climbs in Alpe d'Huez, time trials in Bourg d'Oisans and more climbs in Le Grand Bornand and a return to Annecy-Semoz for some more hard work.
