This beautiful, spacious masia is privately situated less than 400m from the highly prized medieval village of Peratallada, with its large choice of restaurants ranging from good to very highly rated. Art, music and culinary festivals are held here and in other surrounding villages. The house has a security entrance, ample parking, huge lawned garden, attached field and a totally private 10m x 5m swimming pool with teak furniture. There is an outside dining area with barbeque and a separate sun bathing terrace upstairs. Inside there is a well equipped kitchen, utility room, dining room with large table for 12 people, comfortable seating/relaxing areas and a games area with pool table, dartboard, board games and books. Great house for 2 families wishing to combine but also enjoy their own space. The area is rich with fabulous restaurants and the renowned restaurant and spa at the beautiful Mas Torrent luxury hotel is 10 mins away.

Peratallada is in an area of outstanding beauty known as the Baix Emporda, with forests, mountains, historic villages and lovely coastline. The nearby towns of La Bisbal, Torroella de Mongri, Pals, Palafrugell and Begur all have excellent food and craft markets. A bread van comes daily to the village, there is a small supermarket in the next village of Palau Sator and there are several large supermarkets within a 10 mins drive. Barcelona is a 1.5 hour drive and is easily reached by train. Girona (30 mins) is a must to visit with its historic Jewish quarter, chic shops and pavement cafes. Figueres (30 mins) is home to the famous Dali museum. The house is ideally located for you to enjoy all that Catalonia has to offer, from it's history, culture and art to it's natural resources of mountains, beaches, wildlife, flora and fauna . In the summer months there are many concerts at the Botanical Gardens of Cap Roig, the castle at Perallada and in the central square of Torroella de Montgri

GOLF: Catalonia is very much a golfer's paradise. The European PGA sets up its winter headquarters here, not only because of the excellent courses and facilities but because of the unique climate.The climatic conditions enjoyed by the region ensure that the fairways and greens are in perfect condition suitable for all year round play. There are too many great courses to mention but the Emporda Resort is one of the closest, 10 min drive, which has 36 holes (either forest or links). Platja Pals, Serres de Pals, Club Girona and Platja D'Aro are all also nearby and the best is probably the PGA Catalunya course, a 30 mins drive

BEACHES: There are numerous beaches to visit. The closest beach (6 miles) is a large unspoilt expanse of sand stretching from Pals to Estartit. There are no facilities on this beach except for a small drinks shack and a windsurfing school but is wonderfully natural. the stylish resorts of Begur, La Franc and Callela de Palafrugell ae all within easy reach. There are numerous coves around Aigua Blava, Sa Riera and Sa Tuna. A little further but well worth a visit is the lovely St. Martin, where a beach trip can be combined with a delicious tapas lunch in the village square that the beach stretches away from.

OTHER ACTIVITIES: Diving (Isles Medes a conservation area), swimming, snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, tennis, walking, cycling, horse riding (2 local stables). Boats and jet skis can be hired from all local marinas. Cycling is a hugely popular sport in this area and there are many cycle hire shops who will deliver to the house (numerous well established cycle tour routes and walking routes on the doorstep)

wonderful week in catalonia

Our family stayed here in June 2009 for a week - and my only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer. We were 7 people in total (kids/adults) and there was plenty of room - between the living rooms, dining room and the lovely outside seating area next to the pool (plus four good sized bedrooms) we had plenty of space. The house also has a large garden (and adjoining field) and lovely pool, and it is a very tranquil spot. The village of Peratallada is a short walk away (lovely old village with shops and restaurants), and we used the house as a base to visit Pals (a wonderful old village), Girona, Cadaques, the beach and of course Barcelona (1.5 hour easy drive). If you are looking for a family-friendly location with lots to do and see nearby, this is it. (there is also a lovely little loft above the bedrooms which the kids enjoyed).

The house itself is very well equipped - over the years we have rented many houses in the Caribbean, the US and Europe, and this was by far the best equipped in the kitchen, bed/bathrooms, internet/TV, pool area, etc. Usually we spend our first day buying knives/corkscrews/etc but there was nothing missing here.

All in all - we highly recommend this if you are a family / group looking for a peaceful spacious holiday home-away-from-home in the Catalonia region. (final note, the owners were wonderful also as we were an off-cycle rental and they worked with us to make sure all went well - which it did!)

"Mas Riera is spacious, beautifully- appointed and equipped, and with literally all the comforts of home and more, such a lovely terrace, pool, and lawn. Located in the country only a short walk friom a charming, medieval village, it is great for families with children of different ages, Beaches at Pals and Begur are within an easy drive. We look forward to the opportunity to return!!!"

We stayed here in July 2009. Our party consisted of three couples, one of them with two toddlers.

The house is well equipped: we took advantage of the nice kitchen, the washer/dryer, the Internet connection, the pool and ping pong tables, the DVD player and movie collection, but there were also other goodies like a dart board and board games. The house is also very spacious so that different people can do their own thing without interference if they choose. The house also remains nice and cool during the day, which is useful as it does get hot outside in the early afternoon (but in July it stays light well after 9pm so there is plenty of time to go out and explore).

The location is great. Peratallada is a very beautiful village, with a bunch of restaurants, and it is only a short walk away. A lot of the other small villages nearby are also very pretty. The roads in the area are very good, and the traffic tends to be relatively light unless you are right by the beach. We found it easy to drive to Girona, Garrotxa, les Gavarres, Empuries, San Pere de Rodes / Cadaques, etc.

A real top class place to stay

I stayed here with my husband and some family back in June last year (2008) and we found out about it through friends. This is a real gem of a place and more luxurious than my own house in England! It is incredibly spacious - important when staying with in-laws and needing some space away from them! - and there is plenty of space outside too, with a beautiful swimming pool and sun loungers, plus outside dining area.

The Farmhouse is a stones throw (5 mins walk) away from the historic village of Peratallada - a must see if you are in this area of Spain - and there you will find loads of restaurants to choose from - some of them topping some london restaurants for quality and service!

You are also a short drive from beaches, other historical villages, horse riding (my hobby) and golf courses.

I personally fell in love with the place and the surrounding area and definitely hope to go back again one day.
