Sonnenstrand Vacation Rental

As this was our first time in Bulgaria we didn't know what to expect, we'd heard all sorts of things! Firstly, the apartment was excellent - everything you could possibly want (except for satellite TV, which didn't bother us as we never turned the thing on).The complex is very well maintained and although we never had a problem there were only about 20 sunbeds so if it got busy it might be a struggle.
If we had a minor complaint it would be the distance to the resort centre - you can't walk to it. We made plenty of use of the complex bus which runs to the resort and the supermarket (5lev a day), although this stops at 8.00pm and therefore you have to get a taxi back to the complex at night. My wife didn't like this part as you have to haggle with the taxi drivers over the fare - we always paid 15lev back although they start off asking for 25!
in the resort itself there is everything you want - our favourite restaurants were Venera (hi Patrick) & djannys, get there early otherwise you queue.Local beer could be got for 0.79lev (approx 37p/pint) and generaaly for a family of 4 we paid £35 for a meal including drinks. Right at the end of the holiday we discovered a restaurant in the sticks going up the hill from the complex by taxi called Jolly House - the food was great and very cheap and the sunset unbelievably fantastic, definitely go.
By the way, Jim & Geraldine ensured that everything went smoothly inc.keys, late stay etc - thanks to them.
Finally yoshould go soon because if Bulgaria joins the euro in 2011 the prices we enjoyed will be gone.
