Great Place for a Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Our family, with 6 adult couples, 3 additional adults, 3 little children and 2 babies rented this unit and the adjoining one with the same owner.

We had 4 adult couples and 2 adults in this unit, with one adult in the den and another in a blowup bed in the living room -- not ideal, but it worked. The baby and one child shared a room with their parents, and two other small children had the double bed. The four bedrooms are spacious (one has only a double bed) and private. There are two outdoor showers, one adjoining a bedroom. There is also a pull-out couch in a small open den: the bed is fine, but the room is open so there's no privacy or sound insulation. The loft is really not useful for sleeping as it is accessed by a ladder and is very narrow and open to the double bed below: a fun place to play, maybe, but not safe for children to sleep and probably not comfortable for adults.

Both houses were beautifully decorated, well appointed, and very clean. We asked and received extra cots, blow-up beds, cribs and high chairs. The kitchens were stocked with all sorts of appliances, pots and pans, dishes, cleaning supplies. The stove in 406384 was very high-end as was the barbecue grill.

There was great seating for meals both inside and out. The docks had lovely seating as well. There were kayaks, canoes, a rowboat and a paddle boat. The lake was spectacular: the one downside is that you have to take a boat to a raft to access the water because there is too much vegetation and mud near the lake edge. The water at the raft was clear.

We loved all the perennial plantings and made use of the vegetable gardens and blueberry bushes.

Grocery shopping was a 20 minute drive, but there were a number of very nearby farm stands to get fresh corn, tomatoes, peaches, eggs, meat and other produce.

We were pleasantly surprised that the bugs weren't too bad. We were able to eat dinner on the deck without even lighting the torches. During the day there were some gnats and we did use bug spray when we walked on the grass in the morning and evening.

The rental agent was very helpful in answering our many questions and requisitioning extra beds. Overall, we highly recommend this house and its sister location.

Wonderful wonderful

  • 5 of 5

2103 is a GORGEOUS home, lots of very cool features. As another reviewer said, it was more beautiful than it appeared in the pictures. The property manager, Rob, visited on Friday evening and took care of a few things for us, which included building a ramp on one of the decks at 2103 for my mom! That was a very nice touch. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, appliances (AWESOME 5 burner stove) glasses, plates, etc. There was hand soap at all sinks (in both houses, we also rented 22 howard). The path between the two houses was short and easy, although not manageable for someone who has trouble walking (again, mom). There was enough distance between the two homes to offer privacy. We did not swim in the pond from the dock, but the kids loved the pool at 22 Howard. We did take the canoe out (also 2 kayaks) for a paddle around the lake/pond. Bring bug spray, it's a very lush area and lots of things live there. Enjoy the bullfrogs and peepers at night. Be on the lookout for BIG turtles. There were plenty of outdoor chairs, indoor folding chairs. There's a ping pong table in both basements. We lucked out and got great weather but we would have been happy to hang out in these lovely homes. Good time was had by all - thank you!

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the house which was very well kept and extremely spacious. The setting is very quiet and the home and grounds are lovely. The kitchen was very well stocked with all of the utensils etc. that were needed for cooking and baking. The bedrooms are lovely and there were plenty of bathrooms to accommodate privacy for 8 to 10 guests. We did not even have to use the loft. We were also pleasantly surprised by all of the sports equipment for tennis , basketball, canoeing and kayaking. There was even an automatic tennis ball server.

We enjoyed a very quiet and low keyed vacation. My only disappointment, and it was not a major problem was that the lake was not really suitable for swimming off of the dock. There was a lot of reeds and plants near the dock so you have to swim off of the small docks that you would have to take a canoe to reach.

I would recommend this property to a family or groups of couples who enjoy each other's company in a lovely home and want to get away for a relaxing time. We took several rides to local farm stores for local vegetables and farm raised meats. The grill on the deck was wonderful and the view while we cooked was very relaxing. The property was well represented in the pictures and all of the rooms were nicely decorated and very well maintained.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comment. This year seems to have been a year of weeds. We are looking into eliminating the worst of the weeds near the dock so that swimming to the raft and out into the middle of the lake is more pleasant.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. The house is located on Upper Rhoda Lake which is also called a Upper Rhoda Pond. It is 70+ acres. In my research, the definition between lakes and ponds is murky and in fact some ponds are larger than lakes. (Most people think that a pond would indicate a much smaller body of water). We live 5 minutes away on Lower Rhoda Lake/Pond and while it is a bit larger, it is a similarly swim-able body of water. I am not familiar with any lake in the area where it is easy to walk in without either rocks or weeds. That is the general nature of the lakes in the area and as lake -home owners ourselves, we are so used to walking out to the dock and swimming off the end that it never occurs to us otherwise. We are glad you enjoyed our home. We typically try to have grass cut in times when guests are not there so apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We appreciate you taking the time to comment and hope to have you back again.

Trip with Friends

  • 5 of 5

Coming from new york city is was quite a nice drive, you could make it there in about 2 and change if you dont hit traffic. The actual house itself is roomy with many tvs and 2 outdoor showers, which is quite chia. The deck and lake area is serene; taking journeys on the pond, and swimming around in it was a blast. I recommend this place if you want to hangout with friends for a few nights, a pleasant family getaway, or really a good time. Youll have a great trip and youll be satisfied with your stay..

Lovely well equipped home

  • 5 of 5

The house was as nice as advertised. We felt that the home was exceptionally well equipped and clean .. even to a full set of CD's to listen to! The caretakers checked in on us, plowed the driveway when it snowed and were always available to us. The area was a bit quiet over the holidays, but the house is well located to take advantage of North Hudson Valley activities. We will probably return in the summer!
