We were looking for a true home-away-from-home, but more. Someplace beautiful and fun, yet comfortable and restful. A place we could pass on to our 4 year old twins and they to their children. We found it in this house the moment we stepped into it during our search.

Nina Le Baron purchased this house in 2010

We looked at several of the islands, and many sides of San Juan. We chose this spot on San Juan for its seclusion, yet easy access to so many amenities. The west side because of its sunsets and warmth. We appreciate being close to Roche Harbor, whether it's for lunch and exploring the shops, playground and fancy boats, or a quick run to the market for dinner. The drive along the west side of the island is simply amazing. Whales are most easily spotted from here and Lime Kiln Point is an unbeatable picnic spot.

We like that there are so many things to do right from our home without getting into your car. Between kayaking from the shore, walks down the road to feed carrots to the horses, or heading to the end of the road for an easy hike up Mt. Young and it's stunning views. We and our friends go trail running along Mt. Young as well. In the afternoon the deck calls to you for some sitting company before dinner and, after dinner, the furniture in the living room invites you to sink into it. The up-lighting in the huge, beautifully timber-framed structure is second only to the crackling fire. This home was built by a lovely gentleman for his family and the photo book of each step along the way is still on site.

Place of solace with friends with easy access to the island.

  • 5 of 5
The house is lovely and so comfortable with wood fireplace for cool nights and sunny, west facing deck for daytime meals and conversation. Near the end of a long dirt road the setting is quiet and serene, yet the adjacent horse farm and access to kayaks and walking trails provides a nice way to get outdoors without taking a car. But there was easy access to other island locations like Lime Kiln Point and Roche Harbor. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Four Nights in Heaven

  • 5 of 5
What a lovely home in a magical setting! The deer that wandered through the yard, the numerous birds (including eagles) that flew overhead, and the adorable alpacas just down the road all contributed to the magic. The photos and descriptions of the property that we viewed ahead of time had set our expectations really high - and our expectations were surpassed!

The home was spacious enough to accommodate our group of family and friends without feeling crowded. The beds were super comfortable and the master bathroom had an amazing shower that everyone "needed" to experience. We loved hanging out in the large open kitchen that had plenty of room for several cooks to prepare meals at the same time. We had originally intended to eat out since we were on vacation; but the kitchen was so wonderful and spacious, and the deck, where we ate our meals, was so inviting - especially as we watched the sunset over the bay - that on one wanted to leave the house. We also loved hanging out in the big open living room by the fireplace.

Of course, when we did leave the house, there were amazing places to go and things to do. Several of our group enjoyed the kayaks that were provided for our use. There were also great places to walk right from the house, including the alpaca farm down the road and the English Camp which was nearby. The house was conveniently located, by car, to all the other sights we wanted to see on the island. We especially loved the hikes at the American Camp, where we saw amazing scenery and wildlife, including whales, seals, deer, eagles, and a fox. But no matter where we went, we always loved coming back to our special home on the island and hanging out on the deck or by the fire.

Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful, magical, and memorable vacation. Can't wait to return!

Visited Summer 2012

Stayed in this beautiful setting on this beautiful island in July, 2012. The power went out shortly after we arrived due to a storm. We hunted and eventually found 2 flashlights that worked. No candles or lanterns to light our night. We didn't have internet at all during our 3 night stay. This property has only one television, but the cable box has been removed. Stuck with the owners' collection of children's dvds. The listing is not accurate about television and internet.

The main level is very nice, but I have to say that the basement is not very desirable. Smells musty and one of the bedrooms is literally a workshop or craftroom with a bed stuck in the middle of the room. It is cold with tile floors and utility shelving. The room opens directly onto a garage-type storage room. Not very comfortable and not as expected. the two lower level bedrooms and the lower level "greatroom" and not pictured on the listing for a reason.

Owner's Response: Power outages are hard on Internet connections sometimes.... This was the worst electrical storm I have ever seen here with prolonged lightening strikes. We did everything to get the Internet connection back up for you, and wound up having to get another modem. Thanks for your understanding!

Perfect island retreat!

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed at this gorgeous home twice and can't wait to return! It is the perfect island retreat, quiet and peaceful with breathtaking views of the water and surrounding forest. Our family of four easily fit with another family of four (for total of 8) with plenty of room to spare. We loved walking down the quiet lane to visit the horses and alpacas on the neighboring farms. The kids also loved spending time looking for crabs and fish from the dock and the kayaks are great! The dock is within a protected inlet so the waters were very calm which made for easy paddling. You can spend the whole day content on the property or if desiring to explore, San Juan Island has many gorgeous beaches and quaint villages to visit. Our favorite was relaxing by the wood fireplace at the end of the day once kids in bed.

Family trip to San Juan

  • 5 of 5
We spent nearly week here and it was everything that we expected; great weather and views. The property was very clean and very well maintained, and the owners and the neighbors were very helpful. We used the kayaks everyday. We had plenty of room for our whole family of eight. It's a beautiful spot on a beautiful island and I highly recommend this rental if you are into quiet vacations with lots to do and see.
