We were looking for a true home-away-from-home, but more. Someplace beautiful and fun, yet comfortable and restful. A place we could pass on to our 4 year old twins and they to their children. We found it in this house the moment we stepped into it during our search.
We looked at several of the islands, and many sides of San Juan. We chose this spot on San Juan for its seclusion, yet easy access to so many amenities. The west side because of its sunsets and warmth. We appreciate being close to Roche Harbor, whether it's for lunch and exploring the shops, playground and fancy boats, or a quick run to the market for dinner. The drive along the west side of the island is simply amazing. Whales are most easily spotted from here and Lime Kiln Point is an unbeatable picnic spot.
We like that there are so many things to do right from our home without getting into your car. Between kayaking from the shore, walks down the road to feed carrots to the horses, or heading to the end of the road for an easy hike up Mt. Young and it's stunning views. We and our friends go trail running along Mt. Young as well. In the afternoon the deck calls to you for some sitting company before dinner and, after dinner, the furniture in the living room invites you to sink into it. The up-lighting in the huge, beautifully timber-framed structure is second only to the crackling fire. This home was built by a lovely gentleman for his family and the photo book of each step along the way is still on site.
