We are lifelong Wisconsin natives and know this area very well having vacationed here our entire lives. Growing up on a farm, our vacation destination needed to be close by. After marrying and having children we again chose to keep our vacation home close. Our two oldest children are in high school and our youngest in middle school. They are very active and in many sports. Because of this, we are unable to use the cabin as much as we would like. We also love to explore other areas and vacation throughout the country and hopefully beyond. Listing our cabin has allowed us to put that income towards vacation lodging elsewhere. We are also actively looking to swap property rental for something near Yellowstone National Park (WY) & Colorado in June 2013, Harrisburg,PA Oct 2013. Always interested in visiting new locations. If you have a place and want to visit WI, let me know.
Leean R. purchased this house in 2001
We purchased the land in 1998. We built the cabin in 2001. The boys hunt in fall and we spend many hours on Castle Rock Lake boating, tubing, fishing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding and skiing. There's 8 restaurant/bars on the lake. Many have live bands on the outside deck and beach volleyball. There are county and state parks all around offering excellent hiking and walking trails. We also enjoy being close to the snowmoble and ATV routes. Of course, there is always a camp fire at night. So much activity during the day yet a place and time to relax when we want to.
Our proximity to Castle Rock Lake, Wisconsin Dells and world reknowned Northern Bay Golf Course makes this the perfect place to be. Our 'owner built' home has all the amenities of home with 5 bedrooms and 2 full baths. All on 10 wooded acres. Willing and eager to trade with your property rental.
The cabin was very spacious and enjoyable for our group of nine, and there would've been plenty of room for additional people. It was nice that there were so many beds available and that no one had to sleep on the floor. Another extra bonus was the giant kitchen table- it was nice to all be able to sit together, eat, and play games while not feeling crowded! Since it isn't right on the lake, it's a nice spot for a winter getaway, but I could see wanting to be right on the water if it was summertime.
I would say that the only minor downside was having to make sure that we brought all of the supplies needed for cleaning that were mentioned in the contract. (We definitely knew this beforehand, and we fully agreed to it, but after our stay, we all agreed that it would be nice if a few little things were provided, like hand soap in the bathrooms, toilet paper, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc...) Again, not a huge deal, but with a few of those supplies, it would've been a five star rating!
All in all, though, a GREAT stay, and we were happy to have booked the cabin. With people meeting from the Twin Cities and Chicago, it was a nice meeting point.
My family booked this cabin for the Thanksgiving holiday. I would first like to state that these renters were wonderful to work with. We booked this cabin very last minute (only 3 days prior to check-in AND on a holiday) and they were able to accommodate us when no one else was willing! (We sent out many requests and they were the only ones who even got back to us). We were extremely grateful for that. Also, they provided us with check-in/check-out instructions that were very clear and easy to follow. We found the place with no problem, and it appears that Google maps has been updated because it led us right to the cabin. The cabin is a good 30+ minutes from the Dells, but we enjoyed the quiet surroundings and even saw wildlife right through the living room window! There is no Wi-Fi, but 4G phone data was 5 bars strong! The two teenagers didn't even complain. lol.
I would disregard any negative comments you see in these reviews. The house was beautiful, spacious, and cozy in the right kind of way. Everything was just as advertised and there were no surprises. Yes, there is a bit of light cleaning at check-out, but the checklists are sent prior to booking so you know exactly what you are expected to do. We slept 8 adults and 6 kids very comfortably and the adults were very happy to have their own bedrooms with double beds! The kids loved the loft area and enjoyed having a sleep-over in the twin beds up there. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and board game selection! The kitchen is well stocked for feeding large crowds.
We would definitely stay here again!!! The pictures don't do it justice! The place is just beautiful, come see for yourself!
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We had such a lovely time.
We rented this property for a girls family week. Upon arrival, it was immediately evident that the previous users HAD NOT followed the extensive list of cleaning responsibilities before leaving. We spent the first 6 hours of our vacation ( 7 adult women ALL cleaning) cleaning, washing dishes , doing laundry, mopping and vacuuming and cleaning two disgustingly dirty bathrooms. The owner nor any other representative showed up to check on the condition etc... of the home.
This is a very nice home and location; however, it appears that the owner relies solely on renters to do all of the cleaning. This property needs a full, top to bottom cleaning. We left the property 100% better than we found it. Too bad the owner was unwilling to comp even one night for the problems we encountered when we arrived. That would have been the fair, equitable response to our predicament.
Wow. Where do I begin?
First, I would rent this again, and again, and again. Wouldnt change a thing.
If you are looking to gather a group of people, even in winter, this is the place, EASILY fits 20 in comfort. We had 20 people, fed, served drinks, music and dancing in the utmost comfort.
The property is, YES. MUCH bigger on the inside than pictures make it look, including the non-pictured basement with a card table, and plenty of area for seating etc.
The kitchen and bathrooms were very nice, some of the beds were a little old, but they were meant to be basic. The three seasons porch is awesome, even during winter for smokers, 2 little space heaters really heat it up.
There was just enough parking next to the house after the nice little short driveway.
We were surprised to see neighbors on both sides, some not even 100 yards away, but it seemed at the time we were there, there was no one in either houses.
The loft stairs are very cool, but be careful, they are pretty steep.
The garbage dumpster in the woods out front was full when we got there, but it was nice that it was there, owner provided a solution to help us not have to carry tons of garbage home with us.
The house is EXTREMELY well equipped, certainly the kitchen.
Plenty of hot water for showers etc.
It was also very easy to find.
Owner was pretty quick responding to us throughout the process, we had a small issue with a key in the cold wisconsin weather when we arrived, owner provided an immediate solution, assuring the issue would be fixed soon.
Thats about all I can think of!
Great place! HIGHLY recommended
Arrived Christmas Day. Owners were always available to answer any questions we had. Cabin sleeps 18 comfortably. Pretty setting in the woods with many large windows to view the scenery. Nicest part of the cabin was the fireplace. Mattress pads could use replacing and the cooking pans could use a good cleaning but outside of that we were comfortable.
My family and I enjoyed our week in the woods. The cabin is secluded, with lots of parking. Tons of room for our dog and the young kids to roam. The fire pit was terrific. The cabin was very clean and had lots of room for all to sleep. The photos are accurate. The owners were very responsive to my questions. The Dells is about 15 miles away. A nice drive, but need to stock up on supplies as it is a drive to pick up anything you need. There is no wifi, and we were unable to use our aircard to get internet. Cell phone reception was iffy, so check with your carrier if this is a must.
Water parks, bungee jumping and many other adventurous activities just minutes away in Wisconsin Dells and on the Castle Rock Lake. Public boat launch and parking just up the road; bring the speedboat, wakeboards, knee boards and water skis.
