Book a week of golf and hiking enjoyment this October/November or January while we still have space. Warning: this property often books solid!
The grounds are a virtual mini-estate and sprawl over three lots with a dozen tall palm trees, five mesquite-trees, and ten citrus trees! Five awesome golf courses are within 2.5miles. There is a huge network of desert hiking/biking/walking trails a few blocks away. It's only a short 5 minute drive to hundreds of restaurants and 10 minutes to great shopping.
The house wraps around a peaceful Spanish style courtyard with a sparkling pebbletec pool with a waterfall cascading over boulders. It has a sloped 'beach' entry, great for lounging and kids' games. Hang out in the poolside cabana: fans, poolside music controlled from your iDevice or CDs, watch TV and later clink glasses under warm ambient lighting or velvet darkness.
Beside the cabana is a fantastic hot tub, 'always hot' and featuring tons of adjustable powerful massage jets and your choice of relaxation positions. Those who have stayed somewhere with a weak-jetted hot tub with that cycles its hot water into an pool after you've just waited an hour and paid to heat it will appreciate why this is unique.
Take your drinks up to the roof deck for sunset appreciation time. Gaze out to the stark desert mountains across the road and out across the whole Coachella valley: notice you have a 360 view. Watch cool desert birds as they perch in the mesquite.
The property is terrific for guests who need room to romp. There is a large grassy lawn with soccer net, badminton, smashball, croquet. Lots of room to throw the ball for Rover too, we are dog-friendly to most insurance-permisssble breeds. Pet fees may vary based on number of dogs and length of stay.
The pool has a navy blue electric-operated pool cover on tracks recessed into the pool deck for keeping the pool warmer and cleaner during the desert's windy or cooler nights. We have a propane pool heater for cooler spells: ask for a quote for pool/spa heat based on season and duration. In the hottest part of the summer, running the waterfall at night helps keep the pool cooler than smaller pools that may overheat.
This is a Mexican hacienda style home with a Southwest desert flair and oodles of CHARACTER! Here is your own entirely private 'La Quinta Resort' but... with kitchen, washer/dryer, private pool, private cabana, DEDICATED lounge chairs, your own music, private hot tub, and room to roam.
Coachella Week 2 available! Coachella Week One and Stagecoach Festivals are BOOKED and we will not be replying to further inquiries unless they are regarding 2016. Absolutely no weddings or group events: they violate occupancy and other bylaws. Over-occupancy strictly enforced. We refer to the Cliffhouse private rooms for events.
You'll notice delicious smells from citrus flowers. There are many hummingbirds, doves and flycatchers. The front door greets you with a water fountain with stained glass. The front gate is landscaped with a dry riverbed look landscaping, Old West artifacts, Mexican tilework, prickly pear cactus and bright pink bougainvillea to welcome you home.

No more ridiculously priced 'cabana rentals' and over-priced drinks, fighting the hordes for lounger chairs or renting a cabana. Save the money you would have spent on tips for a good bottle of wine.
For breakfast, a wrought iron patio table outside the kitchen door by the lemon tree and another angle of mountain view. There's something so soul-restoring about gazing at palm trees and smiling at the resident roadrunner. The kitchen offers KitchenAid blender, a full assortment of barware, sharp knives, Riedel wine glasses, pool glasses, automatic ice-making, good quality pans and pots. We strive to make it easy for you to show up and enjoy even for shorter four-night getaways: we provide things like the paper towels, ziplock/saran/foil, basic spices/oil/vinegar, starter coffee/tea, nice shampoo/conditioner in dispensers, and liquid hand soap.
Try out your yoga & meditation in one of the picturesque spaces around the home. Walk the garden, or play hide and seek with the kids! Bring your bike or have the local rental company drop them up; ride the roads or trails, then prepare a dinner in the full kitchen with ingredients from the farmers' market or a quick meal from Trader Joe's. Yes, you can sit outside for all of your meals! Or cozy up inside on a cool evening: we seat 8 at the high table in the kitchen, 2 at the bar and 6 at the formal dining room table.
You work hard, now you're ready for a restorative retreat!
You'll be hesitant to leave the property but the lure of seeing 'teddy bear' cholla cacti & waving ocotillos, and snapping awesome photos will be too much to resist.
Start on the sidewalk across the road that hugs the desert mountains and a few blocks down you'll see a trailhead with map posted for the local extensive trail network for fabulous hiking, mountain biking and running. Google La Quinta 'Bear Creek Canyon/Oasis Trail', 'Boo Hoff Trail'(steep 8.8 miles), 'Cove to Lake Cahuilla Trail': they have stunning vistas, palm oases & a variety of desert plants. Watch for some fleet-footed mountain sheep!
Or venture a little further to the famous Bugs Bunny roadrunner-coyote setting of the exotic Joshua Tree Park, where you might spot huge desert tortoises, Fred Flintstone-esque boulder formations, roadrunners & desert hares. 45 min to the south entrance.
What many refer to as 'Palm Springs' is actually a collection of separate but contiguous communities in the Coachella Valley including La Quinta. It is also one of the golf meccas of the Western World!!! There are numerous tournament courses including PGA West & SilverRock Resort.
Shopping abounds all along highway 111 (the main east-west connector through to Palm Springs) as well as the boutiques of La Quinta village itself. Palm Desert offers high end boutiques along El Paseo.
It's about 40-45 min drive to friendly PSP Palm Springs International airport, a direct flight from many places, or fly to Anaheim SNA, ONT, LAX or into San Diego and enjoy the ~2hr scenic drive over the mountains. Some also fly to Las Vegas or Phoenix (Google maps it).
Grocery stores (Trader Joe's, Sprout's/Whole Foods, Von's and Costco) are 5-15 minutes away by car. (There are two kinds of people in the world, those who love Trader Joe's, and those who are destined to fall in love with its unique products.)
Drive 20 min to the Living Desert, a wild animal park that features the best of American & African desert animals, birds & plants. Feed the giraffes, ride the camels, get up close with endangered mountain goats & African deer, pet Pygmy goats, ride a carousel, hike up their ~2hr loop vista trail. In the afternoon, head home for sunset appreciation time on the roof deck!
How about some art & culture? Seasonally, weekends in La Quinta offer an outdoor art show and farmer's market. Nearby Palm Desert offers the College of the Desert Street Fair with 340 outdoor vendors. Don't miss Palm Desert Art Museum.Looking for a party? La Quinta is quiet: go to the City of Palm Springs.
Try one of the La Quinta fabulous restaurants such as a seafood spot, a live music bar, gourmet restaurants, a pub owned by Clint Eastwood, “Stuft Pizza”, the literally named 'Cliffhouse'. Or people-watch from the coffee shop before you stroll Old Town. The Indian Wells resort often features a Frank Sinatra show at Frank's Place seasonally.
The kids (and young-at-heart) will LOVE Soak City waterslides, water play, wave pool and lazy river.
Or maybe... you're just here to sit back, relax & enjoy consistent sunshine & warmer weather! You may ditch all of your big plans for this option... and that's OK too!

Trusted Property Management and Restoration in La Quinta will be your local property managers. They have a wonderful handyman and gardener on their team who will take care should any question or concern arise during your stay. The office personnel with help you with entry codes, tourism questions, or arrange for mid stay cleaning. The owners are in the photo (Angela) and my husband ziplining in Central America. I love hiking in the desert, cooking with fresh ingredients and growing food. I love jazz music! I do a little consulting but am mostly trying to keep up with our active young kids. My kids love swimming and weird rocks. My husband helps his corporate clients with restructuring and lending advice. When he gets time away from work, he adores reading lots of great fiction, endurance long-distance road cycling, hiking, spending time outdoors. We have a shih tzu. We live full-time in beautiful but seasonally-rainy Vancouver, BC Canada.
The La Quinta neighbourhood is beautiful and quiet. It is NOT a party environment and neighbors respect each other's right for peace and quiet. The neighborhood provides a patrol and loud music/parties are not tolerated. Please- try Palm Springs proper if this is what you are looking for, we do not have energy to host messy party oriented guests.
We enjoy the chance to be close to nature, yet close to every amenity we could desire. I also love spending days when I don't get in a car!
Angela purchased this house in 2012
Why Angela chose La Quinta
We adore the desert. My husband grew up coming to San Diego frequently to see his grandparents and came to love the bright flowers, different flora and fauna, birdsong and endless hiking opportunities of southern California. We vacationed in La Quinta for the first time in 2011 and it's consistent heat (versus the cool winter breezes of coastal California) won us over.
I have never actually seen another house anything like this one. My husband jogged by it, and oohed and awed. When we found out it was being sold mostly furnished, we snapped it up, with a plan to use the vacation rentals toward the mortgage, utilities and upkeep of all the amenities and one day be able to spend part of our retirement in the sunshine.
We love that hiking is RIGHT out our doorstep, and the proximity to golf, the Living Desert for the kids, Trader Joe's and the farmer's market. We love that Palm Springs has many direct flights into its small friendly airport and that it is drivable from many great urban centers.
What makes this house unique
As a guest at The End of the Trail, you don't have to drive to go for a walk or hike in a beautiful spot, it's right out your door. I love the view from the pool! I love that we can use the home year-round and enjoy different aspects. The property is so large, you can easily spend all day there with friends or parents and not feel like you're on top of each other. I love that there is a play area for our kids and dog. I am looking forward to spending many happy days of my life, lounging on the roof deck and reading in that casita! I have always dreamed of having a home with pool and hot tub!
October-November and February-March are 'said' to be the best time to go to the desert, also it's lovely in mid-late September and April-May. June-July-August can be over 100 degrees every day with August being the hottest month, although we have air conditioning and fans and we have the top of the line full pool mister system installed to help with the heat. December and January can be cooler at night but significantly warmer than northern climes and pleasant during daytime (think shorts or light slacks with a fleece sweater), affording wonderful time for tennis, golf and hiking, not to mention shopping and tourist attractions such as Joshua Tree, the Date Plantation, going olive oil tasting, to the limoncello cafe, tasting scrumptious foods at area restaurants and toasting (poolsafe glasses) in the hot tub. Sometimes there is wind or even a little rainshower, but are very popular months in the desert for northerners to escape colder temperatures. All months are mostly sunny!
