Only yards down the road towards the beach is a square of Fisherman's Cottages now mainly owned by The National Trust with the Ship Inn and it's micro brewery situated in one corner. The nearest general store is 3 miles away in Embleton. The bay, flanked by dunes, is an ideal spot for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and swimming. Behind the dunes there is a bird hide and sanctuary, coastal walks are on the doorstep with, castles, riding and golf nearby. Alnwick with its Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland, and now famous for it's Garden is 8 miles to the South West, Seahouses with trips to The Farne Islands is 8 miles to the north with BamburghThe Grace Darling Museum a couple of miles further on. Lindisfarne or Holy Island is about 20 miles to the north is well worth a visit, tides permitting, with the lovely town of Berwick-upon-Tweed just a few miles further on. Newcastle Upon Tyne with its lively Quayside, Baltic art gallery and Sage Music Centre is 30 miles south.
