Saillagouse Vacation Rental

We have stayed in this clean and comfortable house on several occasions now in order to ski in the beautiful Pyrenees. The area is peaceful and quiet and there is great walking locally with access to the six 'Neige Catalanes' ski resorts. There is a good choice of local ski resorts all within a reasonable drive, which provides great variety for skiers up to good intermediate level and means if necessary you can pick the best resort according to the current weather conditions- which can largely be determined just by looking out of the windows at the panoramic views (usually powder blue skies). Skiing here is typically much cheaper than the Alps and the smaller friendly resorts are away from the main tourist traps. Resorts are smaller than the Alps but that means you can allways try a different one every day!!
The house has everything you need; with the log fire, strong shower and local vin rouge - all very welcome after a tiring day on the slopes! There is a good medium sized supermarket at the junction with the main road just 3 or 4 minutes walk. The kitchen is fully equipped and it's window has lovely views across the valley to the mountains. There is tv, board games and with the roaring log fire, eating in is often more popular than going out.
The thermal baths in the next village are an amazing experience when the snow is lying all around and the stars shining above you! The local via ferrata starts near the baths and is a great climb -providing you have a head for heights - but there is the option to walk up the hill and around the back to meet up if some don't fancy it. There is plenty of choice for other walking or mountain biking in the area.
If you are seeking an active nightlife Saillagouse will not be the place for you, as the village is quiet and laid back, but does have most basic practical shops and facilities. There are plenty of more active possibilities in other local resorts, such as Pyrenees 2000, Font Romeu or Les Angles.

My family and I (three teenagers and wife) spent a great week at this house during summer. The house was extremely comfortable and the owners could not have been more accommodating ( we left one of our towels behind and they sent it back to us). The town of Saillagouse is close to a variety of activities. We went to spa baths including wonderful authentic roman baths, horse back riding, and a number of other activities. The town has everything you need. But what was great was having breakfast out on the back patio enjoying the paddocks and rolling hills. Don't miss the open top train to Villa Franc a walled city at the end of the train line. It was a wonderfully relaxing house and we would love to come back. It was a fantastic great summer escape.

P.S. Barcelona is only a couple of hours away and there is also white water rafting nearby.
