The house is 50 metres from the Ocean front between fields of banana trees. Its loved for many things including: *spectacular Ocean and mountain views *peace *privacy and *closeness to some of the most popular mountain and levada walks in Madeira. SUNNY HOUSE WEST: The 2 double bedrooms on the second floor open onto a sun terrace with a sunbed & deck chairs and ocean and mountain views. On the top (third) floor of the house the single bedroom with mountain views is next to a second lounge area with ocean views. The lounge opens onto a second sun terrace with a barbecue and both mountain & ocean views. SUNNY HOUSE EAST: The 2 second floor bedrooms with a bathroom close have ocean and mountain views. Next to them is a small terrace with a sunlounger. On the top floor of the house there is an open plan lounge with again ocean and mountain views. The lounge has a double bed settee. The lounge opens onto a second terrace with a barbecue. Ground floor: private yard, kitchen & bathroom

The house with a Tourism Licence from the Local Government is 60 metres up a footpath from the seafront . On the seafront there is always free parking available. The house is quiet surrounded by banana fields and has spectacular ocean, mountain views from its 2 sun terraces and windows on 3 floors. The best views are the superb sunsets! There are bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, a small supermarket, a Catholic church and a bank with an ATM cash machine within walking distance. There is WIFI internet access. A hospital with an emergency department is 20 minutes drive. HIRE CAR OR NOT?: we can pick up 3 people at the airport and return them for a fixed fee of 30 euros each journey. If you are concerned about driving in a foreign country or do not want to hire a car for the whole holiday. Also, with notice we can assist with lifts to destinations on the island.

HIRE CAR OR NOT? : HIRE CAR OR NOT? We recommend a hire car and to collect when you arrive at the airport. But, some of our clients do not want a hire-car for the whole holiday or to drive. One solution is we can pick 3 people up at the airport and return clients to the airport for 30 euros each journey. Also, we can offer lifts to some of the attractions including white sand beaches at Calheta and other places such as the start of walks for a reasonable fee per kilometre.

Activities/facilities in and near Paul do Mar: The village has a small supermarket, shops, a Catholic Church, a bank with a cash machine, medical centre, bars/cafes & restaurants. Popular activities in & around the village are: levada/ mountain walks. fishing, swimming, snorkelling & surfing. 'Paul' is quite flat for Madeira, which is generally hilly & mountainous so it’s easy to walk around, roller-skate & cycle. There are many ‘festas’ (festivals) & the streets are alive with different languages as the locals who work abroad return home for a well-earnt holiday with family and friends! Swimming is easy from certain points including a slipway near 'Sunny House' and a beaches next to the harbour. In Calheta town (10 minutes drive away) is a marina where dolphin-watching, whale-watching and big game fishing boats operate from, white sand beaches, an international art centre 'Casas das Mudas' which stages performances and exhibitions and small shopping centres and a supermarket. From Ribeira Brava there's easy access to the North.

Sunny House, one of last best place at Madeira!!!

Sunny House, keeps the promises from the description in all directions. The owners are very friendly and courteous. The house is in very clean condition, adequarte furnished/equipped and the location excellent. In the middle of the bananas is the right wording. You can harvest them right from the front door (but they are green, better to buy some in the next supermarket). The surroundig is spectacular. 300 to 400m cliffs in the backyard and always a free oceanview from the main terrace. It is a very quiet and rural place in a little village.
Do not expect cub's, discotheques or other signs of mass tourism. This place is recommended to nature lovers and people, who need pure real relaxation with or without children. The only minior point - the next real supermarket is 15 min by car, but for small shopping (food) a local store and a bakery is availiable.

It’s the ‘feel-good’ factor from spectacular nature all around you and the peace of mind it brings. As Dirk says the accommodation is particularly great for couples, small groups and families with or without children who want peace and relaxation but, don’t want to be far away from facilities such as a large supermarket.

Fantastic stay at Sunny House

We spent two fantastic weeks at Sunny House. The house is beautiful and has peaceful surroundings. It was also very clean and had everything we needed during our stay. We loved sitting on the terrace watching the sunset and listening to the waves. Paul do Mar is a real Madeiran village with nice people. It's advantange is beeing away from the tourist areas, yet it has enough services, e.g. a mini-market and a couple of bars. The dinner we ate at Paul do Mar Hotel was tasty and romantic with an outdoor table and ocean view.
We explored the beautiful surroundings by car and hiking. Afterwards the Calheta beach, only 10 minutes drive away, was very welcoming.
The owners, Iva and Paul, are very friendly and service-minded. We would really recommend Sunny House for every nature lover.

Great holiday at Paul do Mar

We really enjoyed our holiday at "Sunny House" - there was nothing missing to feel comfortable! All the equipment was almost new and well-kept. Our favorite place was the terrace upstairs, most suitable for having a meal or for just feeling fine. From there, you have a great view over the sea, you can watch the waves and the sunset with a glass of portuguese wine in your hand and all the banana plants around you. There is also a grill for barbecuing, e.g. for your own selfmade "Espetada". The owners, Paul and Iva, offer great services: Towels and sheets are changed every week and even the charcoal is provided, just to mention a few.
We recommend the cafe next to the small supermarket where you can buy very delicious cakes for the coffee break.
In the evening, if there is suddenly a strange noise, don't worry about it, but feel lucky: most probably it was the call of a seabird called Cory's Shearwater.If you love nature, this is the right place for your holiday!

Wonderful stay in Paul do Mar

We found Sunny House to be a pleasant, comfortable and very clean house.It was well equipped and it contained everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The area is peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The two balconies of the house are idyllic for eating outside and watching the impressive sunsets with a glass of local wine.
The house is well placed for touring western Madeira by car and also there are many walks in the surrounding area.
The owners Paul and Iva were friendly and very welcoming and were on hand at all times should you require anything.
We have no hesitation in recommending Sunny House for a holiday and hope to return.

Your review confirms that ‘Sunny House’ is well-placed on the west coast as a mountain and ‘levada’ (irrigation channel) walking base. There are 3 walks alone out of the village. And if you just want to relax you can stay on ‘Sunny House’s’ 2 terraces with a glass of the local wine and a book watching the famous Paul do Mar sunsets!

Sentirmo-nos em casa diz muito sobre a ‘Sunny House’ em Paul do Mar!

Um local acolhedor, com todas as condições para uma família com filhos como a nossa e que gosta de um jantar com vista para a montanha e para o mar, acompanhado do cantar das cagarras e do cheiro quente e doce das bananeiras, figueiras, abacateiros que envolvem a casa.
Um local para quem não gosta muito do buliço e da agitação dos grandes centros turísticos.
Um refúgio para descansar.
Das nossas férias recordaremos as paisagens espectaculares, os passeios pedestres intensos, os golfinhos, mas também, termos podido sair e regressar ao fim do dia e contemplar o sol que desce sobre o oceano a abraçar-nos no nosso abraço, naquele terraço.
