Dar Sana is a small magical riad well-situated in the medina or old town of Marrakech. It is rented out only as a whole property and provides extensive living and relaxing space for your sole use It has been renovated by the owners to a high standard and designed by an experienced interior designer. There is a housekeeper (Hakima, who has been with us for three years and who speaks 'some English') during the day-time who prepares breakfast for guests and who will provide lunches or evening meals on request at extra cost. There are ample spaces within the property to sit and relax and the house has been arranged with comfort rather than profit in mind. There is also an English manager who speaks French and Arabic and who will offer advice and organise day-trips if required. The house has three resident tortoises which are family pets and loved by all. The area of Bab Doukkala is particularly safe and secure. One of the owners regularly stays on her own at the house.

Dar Sana is located within the medina ('old town') of Marrakech with easy access to the main square and to the new town (Gueliz). It is situated in a quiet derb next door to an excellent restaurant. The local area (Bab Doukkala) is picturesque and has a thriving market area. All areas of the medina are easily accessed by foot and this contains many historic buildings and museums. Marrakech souk (market) is close to the riad. Trips can be arranged to the Atlas mountains and beyond, also to the seaside resort of Essaouira. Bab Doukkala is a delightful area of Marrakech and the riad is in a particularly safe and quiet location.Some of the best restaurants in Marrakech are very local: Le Pavillon (French, just next door), Dar Moha, Dar Marjana and La Maison Arabe.

  • Both bedrooms are on the first floor of the property, facing each other across the patio space. Both have en-suite facilities (toilet/washbasin/shower). Both bedrooms have air-conditioning installed. Both are decorated to individual themes and feature areas of tadelakh (a form of Moroccan plaster finish). Water for the showers is solar-heated (supplemented in winter by electric immersion heater). Both rooms are light and airy, with large windows, with iron grills and shutters for security. There is generous clothes storage space in both rooms.Both rooms have French windows overlooking the patio below.

Notes: The property does not currently have phone or internet connections. The terrace area at the top of the property is extensive and features a tent-covered tadlelakh sitting area and a dining area. The patio area on the ground floor has a dining area and sitting area. Both contain numerous plants and trees. The property is considered suitable for children over 12 years. There is a housekeeper who has been with us for three years and who works 0800 - 1700 pm and who prepares breakfast (included) and other meals at additional cost (i.e. lunch and dinner). She is an excellent cook. The ground floor also contains a sitting room, dining room (with television for DVDs), the kitchen, utility room and guest cloakroom. All these rooms lead off the large patio area at the centre of which is a potted lemon tree. The sitting room and dining room - as well as the summer sitting area on the first floor - have open fireplaces. In winter months we install a plastic cover over the patio area.

SOLE USE OF THE HOUSE: In most properties in Marrakech you will share the public spaces with other visitors. Dar Sana provides complete privacy for your group with a variety of different areas to relax. Visitors have commented on the haven of calm within the house contrasted with the business of Marrakech town. It is important to stress that only pre-booked guests are allowed to stay overnight at the house.

ADVICE AND INFORMATION FROM OWNERS: The owners are happy to provide any advice and guidance that guests may require in advance of travel to Marrakech. Transport to and from Marrakech airport can be arranged at a small cost and you will be greeted at the house by our English manager. She will also be happy to provide any further advice and information required.
