We arrived in Dunedin earlier in the day than anticipated--Matt was easily reached and allowed us immediate access to the home! After a long car ride with two small children and our dogs, we really appreciated such a kind gesture!! Upon going inside the house, my husband's first words were, "Woah! This is way better than the pictures!" And it truly was! The house was very clean, the fixtures and furniture were simple and homey. The sheets were soft and the beds were comfortable. All the appliances were fairly new and the washer and dryer were just as good as the ones in my own home (which again, two kids and dogs make this an important feature).
The very best part (aside from the location) was the yard and the pool/pool area!! Holy smokes!! Talk about a hidden treasure!! The yard was so big and it wrapped around the pool area to include large areas of thick lush grass and a fun wooded section complete with a little red fire hydrant! Our furry family members thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The pool area was completely enclosed and partially shaded. We ate every meal by the pool at the patio table underneath a nice fan--to say it was enjoyable would be an understatement. The pool and pool area were all very clean and functioning; we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our time in Dunedin. This property was a real treat! We definitely plan to stay there again!
We were mostly happy with everything. Here are the details:
The pool! Perfect temp. Not overly chlorinated. Pump ran most of the day which circulated and cleaned the water nicely. The pool was by far the most important piece of this rental for us and made the rental worth the money.
The house was clean and I only saw one bug - an ant - on the floor the entire time I was there. No roaches is a huge plus for me.
The air conditioning adequately cooled the house (but not some rooms - see below).
Location close to several beaches was a plus.
The Draught House right around the corner has the best Cuban Sub I have ever had. Trust me on this!
Matt was quick to respond to our questions over email and understood when we accidentally took the house key with us back to South Dakota.
No paper products like napkins, paper towels, paper plates, etc. No garbage bags. Only one beach towel. We have paid a lot less for rental vacation houses and received most of these amenities. It's the small things that matter.
Air conditioning does not adequately flow to 2 of the 3 bedrooms. So you have to really lower the temp of the entire house to get those rooms cool.
Bathroom is small and needs updating - especially the shower & tub. Looks kind of rusty and old.
The screened pool area needs a lot of TLC. Spider webs abound. Holes in the screen from trees growing through. General age issues and it needs a good cleaning.
The palm trees were constantly dropping buds into the pool making it somewhat of a constant hassle to clean up. I'm a perfectionist so I was constantly cleaning out the debris.
Not much contact from the owner, Matt. I was expecting some sort of welcome and questions if there was anything we needed. There was none of that.
The stove did not work properly - at least one of the front burners wasn't working well enough to use.
The pans are not nonstick - so prepare yourself for a good scrubbing when cooking eggs, etc.
The cons are all pretty minor compared to the pros in my opinion. I'm not sure I would drop another $1300+ for this house. I will have to think about it.
The photos don't do this house justice, it was actually much nicer than the dark photos show! We were very pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to the vacation rental to see a very clean and nicely decorated home--and it was bigger than we thought!
Right on Pinellas Trail so great for walking, running, biking or strolling after dinner
Within 10 minutes of Dunedin's historic center which is adorable
Within 15 minute drive to Clearwater so you don't sit in beach traffic
Within 40 minutes of the aquarium and other fun downtown Tampa activities
Plenty of towels and linens and a fully stocked kitchen
All tile floor so no worries about sand clean up
Good size TV with a Blue Ray DVD player
Beautiful pool (though unheated so we didn't get to use it)
Price can't be beat for the size!
The beds are SUPER creaky so any motion on them woke the other person up
Walking to Dunedin is really not possible on the trail unless you're youngish without children
Bathtub and tiles need replacing--rusted and dingy looking
It got very very hot at night inside the bedrooms so I'm not sure but the a/c might not be the best inside those rooms
Although Matt was easy to text once we were there we did have a hard time getting ahold of him beforehand. Sometimes it would take a week+ to get an answer to a question (like who to contact in case of an emergency with the house since he doesn't live nearby).
We really enjoyed our stay here and it would work just fine for anyone on a budget with or without kids.
My wife, 3 year old daughter, and dog spent about six weeks at the house in the summer of 2013 after we sold our old home and were waiting on a work transfer out of state. The location is great, right on the pinellas trail, walking distance to parks/Dunedin pool/splash park, and a short bike ride or drive to downtown Dunedin or beaches. You would be hard pressed to find a better spot for the price. The house is really nice, the pool and enclosed area is great. The pool is not heated so I'm sure in the summer it can get a little cold. When we first got to the house the pool filter was broken and the pool was very dirty. The owner took several days to get back with us and the pool wasn't fixed for 10 days. It was very frustrating to have the pool, but not have it work. It would of been less frustrating if the owner would get back with us in a timely manner. He never once answered his phone and e-mail responses or texts rarely took less than several hours. We don't expect him to be on call 24/7 but an out-of-office response on the e-mail or answering the phone once would be nice. All of the furniture in the house is pretty nice, the only complaint is that the linens on the bed are of very low quality and the pillows are just about useless. Some updates to better quality stuff (hotel quality) would be nice. We would consider our options before staying here again, but would not entirely rule out the property based on location and it allowing pets and kids. Accurate pictures, property was clean when we arrived. Lots of good restaurants nearby: Sweet Peas is great for kids, Covered bridge has good reasonably priced breakfast, Dunedin Brewery has awesome pretzel bites and the beers are great, House or Beers has a good beer selection, and 7th Sun is another good microbrew. If you want an awesome breakfast/brunch on the weekend check out the Living Room. For a quick sandwich or nice breakfast the Broadway Deli is good.
This house was very clean. The pool area is beautiful. It met our needs for the week.
