Gaucin is a walkers´ paradise:
Gaucin is in the mountains of Ronda; there are over 150 marked walks and several mountains to climb. During the off-season there are two scheduled group walks per week. Because Gaucin is 640 m altitude, the weather during the summer is mild, and walkers continue to go out even in the summer months. Mountain biking and birding are also popular.
Gaucin is an ideal base to explore Andalucía:
There is a train from Gaucin to Granada and Algeciras that is most picturesque and efficient. Ronda is 30 minutes away on a beautiful scenic new route. The Roman baths outside of Manilva are 30 minutes away, and totally accessible. The coastal towns of Marbella, Estepona and Gibraltar are less than an hour away. Sevilla is 2 hours, Cordoba 3 hours, and Cádiz 2.5 hours. There is also a first class cave within an hour away, with 40 different layers of cave cultures, many cave paintings etc, within an hour´s drive.
The village of Gaucin is Great!!:
There are tapas bars and restaurants, a great unspoiled castle overlooking a 360o view of the area, special fiestas all year long. It is set in spectacular countryside, with olive and almond orchards, lots of horses and sheep, and wonderful wildlife, including our own herd of Ibex Hispánica (wild sheep), eagles, wild boar, etc etc. It is in the path of migratory birds coming and going to Africa. The town dates back from Iberian times, and has had Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and French invaders.
