The luxury kitchen and bathrooms are decorated to the highest standard using only quality materials. Cooking in the granite topped kitchen can be a pleasure! Families will also enjoy the facilities and enjoy walking into Comares village and day trips to the sandy beach, just a 30 minute drive.

Local Village - Comares: Comares village is within a 10 minute walk of the villa; or 5 mins by car. Comares sits high on a hill with views to the Mediterranean some 20 kms distant. Its a pretty ' Pueblo Blanco' with narrow streets winding uphill in two directions from the plaza. Although a little sleepy after the busy coast, it has enough facilities for shopping, eating and drinking. The village shop sells fresh bread, veg, meat and has a good beer & wine section. There is also a chemist, tobaconist, 2 restaurants and several bar/restaurants serving meals and tapas. For emergencies, the 24 hour medical centre is a 20 minute drive.

Shopping & Beach Life: Velez Malaga is the nearest large town and takes approx 30 minutes to drive to. A lively market town, you will find many supermarkets and an air conditioned shopping centre with multi complex cinemar, bowling and restaurants...This is the nearest town for buying fuel also.

Torre del Mar is a popular beach resort with a long sandy beach and Mediterranean promenade. Many beachside cafes are found here, many specialising in fish & seafood. Torre has restaurants to suit all tastes as well as bars and nightlife.

Torre del Mar has plenty of entertainment with cycle hire, horse riding, water park and go karting. Along the coast 2kms is the fishing port and marina of Caleta de Velez. Go for a boat ride or just enjoy lunch at the waters edge.

Touring Andalucia: Villa Peña Blanca is a good inland base from which to explore Andalucia. Malaga city has lots to see including the Picasso museum, castle, cathedral and good shopping. Many great tapas bars too!

Granada & the Alhambra Palace is approx a 90 minute drive and a must see day trip. Book online in advance.

Antequerra and Torcal National Park are nearby too. Nerja, less than an hour by car, has good beaches and famous caves. Seville & Cordoba are a little further on good roads but a worthwhile trip for the more adventurous.

We loved the villa, especially the pool late afternoon - evening. The views all around are stunning! We walked to Comares via the old Moorish steps at the bottom of the drive. Recommend the Molino restaurant and Mirador. For a more touristy area try Nerja. Loved Peña Blanca! P.S. WiFi great success for the kids!

Generously appointed villa with outstanding views

Peña Blanca was a most memorable holiday home - a house that exceeded both expectations and its modest website description.

What really set this villa apart is its fantastic location. Sited on the crest of a hill just below the ancient hilltop town of Comres it enjoys privacy and seclusion despite the town centre being just a few minutes’ walk away. At the bottom of the house driveway we found the foot of the Moorish Steps - a cobbled hillside pathway leading directly to the town walls. We made good use of Comares’ facilities - there is a small supermarket and deli, a fishmonger, and several bars and restaurants.

The house is spacious and spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished both inside and out. We slept soundly and appreciated the sensibly laid out and sparkling bathrooms, with plenty of hot water in the taps. The kitchen is well equipped, generous fridge space, and appliances as new.

The pool is deep, clean and refreshing, and not overlooked.

There are several different outdoor dining areas depending on your mood or the time of day. Outdoor cooking options include a good-sized barbecue and a sturdy wood-fired brick oven where we roasted a delicious local pork shoulder. Bedrooms have sun terraces with loungers. Every window offers stunning panoramic views across the mountains, some to the distant sea.

Wow! Highly recommended, we’re already planning a return visit.

Several guests have remarked on the different terraces facing both South & North which take advantage of the extensive views to sea and mountains. Unique to Peña Blanca is its location; totally private and yet 5 minutes walk to Comares village and its typical Andalucian ambience....Hope to see you again! Chris.

Amazing house with stunning views

This may be the most amazing house I ever sat foot in! The location is breathtaking! The view is just unbelievable, there is no picture to do it justice. The mountains, the ocean, the sunrises and sunsets.. and all the places to sit and enjoy it! We truly did not have enough time during our five days to use all terrace and outdoors seating options (!). Our favorite is the big one you can see in the first picture, the most amazing place to sit and eat pizza made in the outdoors wood-fired pizza oven. The pool is lovely but unfortunately very cold, but note this was in september. Indoors everything feels almost brand new, very nice bedrooms (with of course amazing views), more bathrooms than you need (and we were 6 persons!) fully equipped kitchen, really good wifi, baby cot and high chair on request.

We had email contact with the owner Chris, he seems very nice. At the house our contact was Carl, very friendly and helpful! (for example, booked a local taxi for us as we don't speak spanish) To be honest I was a bit hesitant about paying the total sum in advance, it felt a bit scary. But I'm so glad I "took a chance" or I would have missed the opportunity to stay in this unforgetable house.

The town Comares is beautiful! Well worth to stroll around for a couple of hours. We did not eat at any restaurant we would recommend but we heard the two restaurants in the nearest town is good. (But to be frank, why eat anywhere else than at the house that has the outdoors pizza oven and bbq and a big kitchen and wonderful outdoor seating?!)

Pena Blanca pros - pretty much everything.

Pena Blanca cons - the road up is extremely steep and narrow, you want to have a good driver behind the wheel. Cold pool. Bathrooms a bit smelly.

I would without hesitation recommend anyone to go there! We started talking about when we could go back even before we had left!

Owner's Response: What a great review from this party of 6 persons visiting in late September! We think the new outside kitchen with wood fired oven and BBQ will be much used. The villa occupies a unique position on top of its own hill and thus the fantastic views! The private concrete drive is approx 100 meters long and yes it is steep......but well worth the drive! Just to clarify, this booking was " last minute" and so the full cost was paid but normally when booked in advance a 25% deposit is requested to confirm a reservation. Wonderful Stay (Again!)

Our second stay at Pena Blanca and just as memorable as the first. A truly outstanding place to enjoy breathtaking scenery and complete peace and tranquility. The villa itself maintains it's usual high standard of accommodation and the addition of the built in barbeque is a great new feature which we thoroughly enjoyed using.

Evening meals don't get any better than enjoying great fresh local food whilst watching the sun going down over the spectacular mountain views.

We cannot recommend Pena Blanca highly enough and it can only be a matter of time before we visit this beautiful villa for a third time. Highly recommended.

Superbe Maison en Espagne

Sans doute, la meilleure villa que nous avons trouve en cette region. Trois chambres, trois salles de bain, piscine, terraces. Privee, silence - mais on peut se promener au village de Comares par un escalier ancien au bout de l'avenue. Plusieurs Bars et Restaurants agreables pas loin de la maison. Nous voudrons retourner en automne si possible. Une heure de l'aeroport a Malaga - parfait!

The perfect escape

This was my third visit to Peña Blanca and once again it hit the spot. Even in October the weather was great and the views terrific. There is plenty to explore either walking or driving around the area.

On this trip I took local advice from Chris, the owner, to seek out some of the more 'local' eateries and none disappointed. I can recommend stopping for lunch on the beach at El Tintero II on your way from Malaga airport; the food is great and the restaurant gets very busy and very noisy!

The local Molino de los Abuelos in Comares was as good as ever and sitting among the old olive press quite special. For a great value supper we enjoyed the 'camping hotel' Mirador De La Axarquia which is just a stroll down the hill from the village centre.

The property is in excellent condition, well maintained and highly recommended. I look forward to my next visit!

Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to accept a reservation from a guest who is returning to Peña Blanca; particularly for the 3rd time! The villa seems to attract more than its fair share of " foodies" which I think is due in part to the first class kitchen facilities and also the proximity of the villa to Comares - a 5 minute walk away via the old Moorish steps. Comares & nearby village Los Ventorros has a good mix of local eateries both traditional and modern....Kevin seems to have sampled most of them and we hope he returns again next year! Chris

A real "get away from it all" place

We joined thousands of other holidaymakers flying into Malaga. Most of them would book into thousand room hotels and spend their time fighting hundreds of others for a good spot at the pool; having to get up early to take the choice breakfast; running round for dinner reservations and returning home a week later, desperate for a holiday to recover from the first one..

Infinitely better idea, rent Pena Blanca instead.

Once clear of Malaga traffic, the mountain drive to Comeres is the start of something special - we lost count of the number of times our ears popped with the frequent change in altitude.

Pena Blanca is situated just off the north-east side of Comeres. Apart from the village above (no-one there overlooks the property) everywhere else is below you.

Pena Blanca is good for 6 or more people, it is so much better with just two. There are 4 upstairs balconies and a multitude of outside seating areas that we would often "lose" each other. The Southern balcony has a table and some chairs, along with 4 sunloungers, on a clear day you can see the coast and Velez-Malaga to the south east.

The pool, even in September was still plenty warm enough - after a few cooler days, it did take a bit more effort to get in, but once there, it was still so nice.

Our holiday plan was to do as little as possible and we did just that. Taking walks around the area and climbing the old stone steps to Comeres - the views while climbing were so good.

Sunsets were also spectacular, while others seem to prefer the Sundowner terrace, our favourite was the North balcony. 2 chairs, a bottle of wine, relax back and watch the sun illuminate any distant clouds for some spectacular pictures.

Yes, the listing was accurate; the other reviews are also a good reflection on the property and, yes, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

And when we got home, we didn't feel like we needed another holiday!

Owner's Response: A very descriptive review of Pena Blanca and some of the highlights of Gordon´s stay. As stated, the villa sleeps 6 persons in total comfort with 3 good sized bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, one en suite. For just 2 persons it really does provide luxury accommodation for a couple....and I appreciate the comment that this couple were able to lose themselves on the various terraces! Thanks for the North balcony tip too and hope you will visit again.

Peña Blanca is situated away from the madding crowds on the coast but conveniently located just a one hour drive from Malaga airport and 30 minutes by car to the sandy beach at Torre Del Mar on the coast. Walking distance from the beautiful village of Comares where all key amenities are found; restaurants, bars, shop, bank etc.

Peña Blanca Villa is a good base from which to explore the key cities and sights of Andalucia. Granada & the Alhambra Palace is a day trip. Antequerra and Torcal National Park are nearer still. Seville & Cordoba are less than 2 hours drive. Visit Nerja & the famous caves - 50 kms. Lake Viñuela, Marbella & Puerto Banus are on the tourist lists. Malaga city has plenty of culture with the Picasso museum, castle and many monuments. Great shopping and restaurants too!
