We have stayed in a dozen or so VRBO properties over the past fourteen years and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. This house has a great location and tons of amenities, but unfortunately very few of them work. The pool heater was broken when we arrived; the filter broke on our third day and could not be repaired for the rest of our week long stay. So much for paying a little extra for a pool! The shoreline fire pit has eroded and the lake splashes right into the middle of it. It is littered with cans and trash. Two of the plastic chairs surrounding the pit were broken and unusable. The tank for the propane-fueled fire pit on the patio was empty, so it was inoperable. Upon arrival, we were handed a pair of pliers to operate the broken faucet in the upstairs bathroom. Several screens were ripped and the sills of the upper windows are covered with cobwebs and bug carcasses. This property could be terrific -- and probably was in it's heyday -- but it needs some serious attention.
This house is perfect for large groups, multi-family reunions, etc. It is remote enough that you need not worry about a group enjoying music or talking out by the pool or down by the lake. Facility is very nicely appointed. As another reviewer pointed out the deck railings are not suitable for small children so bring a few expanding gates if you have toddlers. The pool proved to be a great asset as the winds had driven a large alge bloom in the week of our stay. Love the view of the lake from the master bedroom. Landscaping is beautiful. Lots of amenities like the stereo, refrigerators and grill at the poolside Tiki bar. Hot tub is very large and feels great after swimming or a day of golf. The master shower has a steamer which is also very nice for those of us with alergies/asthma. Many other fun things to do .. tennis court, basketball court, badminton/volleyball, bike riding. The six acre wooded parcel is well landscaped and provides a real sense of privacy and an effective buffer from road sounds. Our group of eight - 59 year old men had a great time!
First of all, the photos do not do this property justice. The house and views, landscaping are amazing! The interior of the home was perfectly cleaned and ready.
We had 15 and plenty of room and private space for everyone. The adults were happy that the teenagers could not get cell reception. (no cell reception or wifi/internet). This allowed everyone to interact more and built memories having fun we will never forget! The huge kitchen is great for cooking for a large crowd, lots of room! The kids loved loved the pool slide! The volleyball net was huge fun! along with the outdoor sound system! Only a few steps to the beach and fire pit with miles of beach to explore!
There were no instructions left on how to do anything! Come on, Copy and paste all renters with a welcome package listing important needs to know. For example the pool was freezing cold (weather was in the 50's) we did not know how to turn on the heater, so the pool was not enjoyable that first day until we figured out how to get the heater going.
We called the owner and left a message he sent his housekeeper the next day to give us info. but because cell service is awful, you have to leave the property to make a call.
If you are a scent sensitive person, as my daughters and I are, this is NOT the property for you. The hot tub is indoors and the chemicals permeate the entire lower level and upstairs mainfloor. We could not even enjoy watching the wide screen tv. No screens on the LL doors to try to air out the room so we brought our air cleaner from home which helped some. (The projection screen was broken in the lower level so the wide screen from the kitchen was put there instead leaving no TV in the kitchen as described). My suggestion is to PUT THE TUB OUTSIDE ON THE PATIO WITH A VIEW OF THE WATER!
The owner did respond quickly to my request to have the tub drained.
PLEASE DO NOT LIST AMENITIES THAT ARE BROKEN OR NOT THERE
projection screen broken
toilet main floor does not flush
gas grill injector is broken
bulbs out all over the house
broken chandelier in kitchen
bench step broke upon using once
no pool slide as shown
Railings are DANGEROUS for little children, we had 3 under 4 years. The railing design is NOT kid friendly. There are LOTS of stairs and the front stoop is ridiculously unsafe. Beware if anyone has joint issues or handicapped issues.
We had an extended family vacation here with families from 4 states. It was great! Lots of room, pool and tennis courts kept everyone busy. The hot tub and big (huge!) screen TV were also big hits. We walked on the country roads, and enjoyed biking them also. Nice location - away from town but close enough to go for groceries, etc without a problem. Also nice drive up through Door County. No wifi and cell phone coverage was pretty spotty, which was missed, but can go into town when needed to catch up on emails, etc. The photos are a true representation of this property - very nice! We did have a plumbing issue arise while we were staying there, but the owner and propertry manager were quick to respond and get it taken care of. I would definitely recommend this vacation home to anyone! We spent a day in Door County, a day at Lambeau Field, and much time enjoying each other's company at the pool and tiki bar (with sound system - great 'party' area. Kudos to Captains' Cove!
Ten girls rented this property for a bachelorette party and it was amazing...the Tiki bar, pool, waterslides, badminton, tennis/basketball courts, hot tub...the list could go on and on..., TONS of sleeping room, and privacy. We LOVED our stay and the house, the time went WAY too fast, you seriously need longer than a long weekend, just isn't enough time. Algoma is a super cute town and we are very very thankful for renting this house to us. Greatly appreciate making our weekend, Scott showed us around and how to use everything and was very helpful and the cleaning ladies were very nice. If you have a big group, several families, this is perfect :)
We are just returning from a WONDERFUL stay at Captains Cove. This home exceeded our expectations. We had 13 people staying in the house, and we still had a TON of room left over. The house was well stocked with items we needed, and had so much to do. The view is breath taking...we were sad to leave. The kids loved the pool and the hot tub, and also loved being so close to the beach. The fire pit on the beach was a plus for us adults, and the Tiki Bar with the outdoor sound system was great. You will love falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing. Will definitely return to this property and will recommend this stay to all of our friends.
