Vale da Cegonha comprises of Casa Cegonha - our reception, Casa Aguia and Casa Andorinha, all set within 7 hectares of glorious countryside. It is the perfect place to relax or for a romantic getaway far from the stresses & strains of modern day life. Casa Aguia has 3 en suite bedrooms sleeping 6 adults and a sofa bed in the lounge. Extra child beds avail . All areas are wheelchair accessible. Casa Andorinha has 1 large en suite double/twin/family bedroom . Both are finished to a very high standard for your comfort. Outside, both have shady terraces and barbeques. The shared pool has a shady pergola and sun loungers adjacent . The water uses natural salt. Beyond the terraces are paths around the grounds which include views of Monte da Rocha lake. The town of Ourique (5km) has a selection of supermarkets, shops and banks etc.plus a choice of restaurants serving local cuisine and wines. Both the Algarve and west coast are within easy reach.

Casa Aguia is extremely spacious and well appointed. It has 2 large en suite bedrooms, each may be double or twin bedded.Bed 1 has a full bathroom and Bed 2 a large shower room A 3rd large double bedroom also with ensuite shower room, may also be rented (in Casa Cegonha - location plan available) Beds 2 & 3 are fully accessible for wheelchair users. There is a fully equipped kitchen/diner which has natural wood units and granite worktops. There is also a breakfast bar and dining suite. Adjacent is a comfortable lounge with a Futon style double sofa bed and a leather suite complete with TV/DVD,radio and CD. Double doors open from the lounge onto a shady terrace for alfresco dining or relaxing beyond which is a sun terrace and large 10 x 5 metre heated salt water swimming pool. The lounge, both terraces and the pool all benefit from fabulous views. Casa Aguia has underfloor heating for the winter months and air con units for the summer. The local landscape is one of rolling hills and open plains dotted with cork, holm oak, eucalyptus and olive groves interspersed with pristine white towns and villages. In Spring, vivid red, yellow, purple and white flowers carpet the land,slowly turning golden through the summer. We have a wonderful array of wildlife and birdlife here - Vale da Cegonha means 'valley of the stork'. But beauty apart our central location makes this an idea place from which to explore the Southern Alentejo. Beja, Evora and Mertola all have Roman origins. Silves was the Moorish Capital and Serpa and Monsaraz are both delightful Medieval walled towns.All have a facinating history. Numerous archaeological sites are also nearby. For a stunning beach to yourself, head west. For more razzmatazz head south to the Algarve. Visit Lisbon for a day of excellent sightseeing and shopping. Anglers will enjoy good sport on the nearby lake and for food and wine lovers lunch at a local vineyard is a must.

  • The rates shown are for 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 adults. Extra beds/cot for children may be added FOC.
    Please request the rates for 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 adults.

    If Casa Aguia and Casa Andorinha are booked together, a discount of 5% available.
    A 30% non-refundable deposit will be required when making your booking. A booking is not guaranteed until this payment is received. The balance must be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival. All bookings made within 6 weeks of arrival must be paid in full.
    We accept payment in euros or GBP sterling as a bank transfer.
    For payments in GBP sterling the exchange rate for all payments will be confirmed at the time of booking.
    A security deposit of 100 euros/pounds in the form of a cheque will be required on the day of your arrival. It will be returned by post subject to any damage/breakages discovered after your departure (small items of crockery or glassware not charged)

    All linen, towels and tea towels. Swimming towels for use on site.
    Beach towels may be hired at a cost of 2 euros per day.
    Electricity and Gas.
    A Welcome Grocery Pack which includes :- tea. coffee, sugar milk, bread, butter, eggs, local cheese and wine, fresh fruit, fruit juice and salt and pepper.
    We also provide toilet rolls, 2 kitchen rolls, cling film, aluminium foil, bin liners, washing up liquid, a sponge and dishcloth.
    English style bacon may be purchased from reception.
    We offer a 24hr laundry service at a cost of 5 euros per load. An iron and ironing board is available for guests use.
    Telephone and internet access can be arranged through reception and is charged as used.
  • Guests must be a minimum of 21 years of age unless accompanied by an adult.

For the safety of everyone the shower units are thermostatically controlled.

Notes: Linen and towels changed mid-week. Fully accessible accommodation - bedrooms 2 and 3 and the en suite shower rooms are fully accessible for wheelchair users as is the kitchen. It has open areas beneath the hob and sink, crockery, cutlery and all cooking utensils stored in large pull-out drawers and a breakfast bar that also serves as a lower level work surface. The swimming pool, too, has a dropped side giving easy access to the water level and all terraces are gently sloping without steps. Round and About Vale da Cegonha: On site we have a boules pitch and archery is planned for 2009 There are also many old cartways crossing the landscape giving endless opportunities to birdwatchers, botanists, artists and photographers as well as those who just love the outdoors. Whether you travel on foot, bicycle, scooter, quadbike, horseback or jeep there is always something to enliven the senses- the smell of wild mint, rosemary and eucalyptus; watching 2 hares chasing round a field or bright coloured birds such as bee-eaters, hoopoes and blue magpies while majestic birds of prey and elegant storks soar high over head. A meeting with a local shepherd quietly tending his sheep is reminiscent of life in a bygone age as is a visit to a local bar where everyone seems to have time for a friendly chat. For the more adventurous you can even enjoy this lovely area from the air in a hot air balloon or light aircraft At night you will be treated to a dazzling display of starlight due to the lack of air & light pollution.

Access For All: With nearly 25 years experience in tourism in UK prior to developing Vale da Cegonha we are well aware of the difference subtle changes in design can make to some guests. Generously proportioned rooms and doorways with level access and gently sloping pathways without steps is often all that is needed. We have gone 1 step further and ensured that in Casa Aguia both the kitchen and shower room may be used by all without any loss of style or convenience. This also applies to our swimming pool. To most, the 50 cm dropped side with 60cm top to the 'pool wall', gives the impression of an infinity pool looking out over the valley toward the distant hills.But to others it gives direct access to the water without the need for a hoist. Small changes that mean all are welcome. As resident proprietors we are available to all guests when needed. For guests with specific needs we have an extensive list of mobility aids which may be hired on your behalf including prices. Please ask for details.

O Vale da Cegonha é um inesperado oásis de tranquilidade e bem-estar no Alentejo rural, excelente para quem necessita de desligar-se da rotina citadina, da ditadura do relógio e das ligações cibernéticas que (cada vez mais) nos dominam o tempo e energias.
Casas novas, limpas e bem equipadas, anfitriões atentos e de simpatia extrema, piscina refrescante, grelhador para preparar a carne suculenta do porco preto criado da região, sombra para ler, dormir ou jogar, céu estrelado à noite (cuja existência as luzes da cidade nos fazem esquecer) são razões mais do que suficientes para assentar arraiais e mudar de vida por uns dias.
A localização (perto do IC1, a meio caminho entre Évora e Portimão) permite-lhe servir de base para uma exploração da região Alentejana.
Recomendo (e espero repetir).

It is often difficult für handicapped people to find an accomodation which offer calm and relaxation during their holidays. Penny and Greg have built one where also disabled can lean back and enjoy a few marvellous days in Portugal. The house is absolutely wheelchair accessible (there are no thresholds) and offers very much space to move in a wheelchair. Especially the bathroom and the perfectly equipped kitchen have to be emphasized. Last but not least it is certainly the kindness and the heartiness of Penny and Greg (who will always find a solution for every problem which may occur during your holiday, I am sure) which make me judge Casa Aguia as excellent and one of the best accomodation I ever visited before.

A estadia de 2 semanas na casa Aguia foi óptima.
As instalações são muito boas e a Penny e o Greg muito simpáticos e prestáveis.
Apesar de nem tudo estar ainda a 100% e de algumas coisas terem falhado tudo se resolveu pelo melhor.
Ao fazer o balanço acho que foi positivo e será sempre uma hipotese a considerar para as próximas férias.

Owner's Response: Luisa and Jorge were previously tourism providers themselves so their comments and suggestions were invaluable to us. In particular they were able to advise us as to what Portuguese guests would expect to find in a quality holiday home, such as, an expresso coffee machine rather than a cafetiere and an electric hand blender and soup ladle as many Portuguese family like to prepare home made soup at lunchtime.
Unfortunately, during their visit our satelite TV connection broke down and this proved to be a rather illusive rogue fault which has taken time to resolve. To compensate we provided them with extra DVD's but we were aware that this was not the same as being able to watch their favourite TV programmes.
I am delighted however that overall they enjoyed their holiday here and would consider returning in the future. I hope that when they do they will approve of the changes that we have made, especially as many were as a result of their suggestions.

Penny & Greg made us feel very welcome. Super, fully self-contained accommodation in Casa Andorinha. A stunning countryside location with beautiful widflowers and wildlife, but not too far from fabulous restaurants at very reasonable prices. If you want peace and relaxation, this is the place for you.

Em Português primeiro: Adoramos a estadia, ficamos na casa Andorinha, que fica situada ao lado da casa principal, mas garante-nos total privacidade. Para quem quer relaxar, fugir do stress da cidade, este é o sitio, tem óptimas condições, os donos da Quinta são super simpáticos e prestáveis, a casa tinha todas as condições necessárias, muita higiene, está como nova, nós levamos os nossos cães e eles adoraram também pois são 7 hectares de terra, posso vos dizer que tem uma optima relação preço qualidade, fica a 5 min do centro de Ourique, onde existe um Pingo Doce, e fica pertissimo do Algarve(Albufeira), cerca de 40 minutos de carro pela IC1. Espero voltar em breve, e já agora nuito obrigado pela hospitalidade!
