As an early retired police officer, active building contractor, recreational and commercial diver, fisherman, and general all around outdoorsman who has spent most of his life on the West Coast of B.C. I can tell you that this location is one of the most beautiful, accessible and not commercialized areas around which is why we love it and enjoy sharing it with others. The ongoing property transformation from a tiny shack in the bush to a seaside family retreat is a reflection of the love of the area and the feelings we have about family and friends bonding and enjoying the precious recreational time that we all seem to have too little of. We suspect you will agree with our family and leave happier and a little closer too. That is our desire and goal.
It is private, quaint and a unique piece of the West Coast which offers the wholesome experiences one craves with the conveniences of the modern world.
Alll activities are at your door step, a short walk or drive. We basically have everything for your family except what the city imposes on you. A healthy outdoor experience in a safe and comfortable environment.
Our group was immediately impressed by the layout of the property - right on the water with a spectacular view. There was plenty of room outside to throw the ball around and play badminton, and the dock was great for casting a rod or two anytime. On top of those features, the front deck provided plenty of room for a large group to congregate, as did the awesome fire pit.
Perhaps the best part of the place was how incredibly well stocked everything was. For our group of 10, there was never a concern of running out of plates, glasses, cookware, towels, etc...
Although we loved that there was no cell coverage, the local pub (5-10 minute walk) provided free wifi, so we were never in danger of feeling too isolated. There is also a general store down the road (2 minute drive) that provides all the essentials.
I would highly recommend this location to any group looking to get away from it all and relax. I, and I'm sure others from our group, will most certainly be back again someday.
The listing was exactly how we found it. Pictures and amenities are accurate. The owner, who I was in contact with before the stay and once during the stay, was always helpful.
I would recommend this property to adults who are looking for a fun fishing trip or families with children that want to enjoy an outdoor experience without camping. We fished everyday! The kids would fish right off the dock for shiners and for us grown ups we rented a boat from the very nearby Bathgate Marina. Every night we gathered around the fire pit. The kids loved roasting marshmallows and star gazing!
We also walked to Skookumchuk Rapids (an hour each way...take a bottle of water!) this was very cool.
Be aware that there is no wifi or cell signal. We knew this in advance and were comfortable with it, but if you are a person who cannot function without your cell....well....maybe then it's not for you. This was certainly a "get away from it all" kind of trip.
Just a great place. You won't want for anything and will definitely miss it upon leaving. Beautiful interior, well-cared for and very convenient. We'll definitely be back!
It’s been a while since our visit but, because my family still cannot stop talking about the amazing time we had at this fantastic beach house, we decided to leave a friendly review to share. This cottage is right at the water’s edge with a spectacular ocean views and a beautiful private rocky beach. Its new interior was like that of a majestic treehouse with decors meticulously finished. During our stay, my wife and I started our days with morning coffee watching the breathtaking sunrise over the wonderful mountain backdrop from the bedroom window (BTW, it has a comfy king-size bed too! :)). I also cannot forget the quiet time with my wife while watching the gorgeous sunset while having my favorite wine with her on the water-front deck. We also really enjoyed having BBQ dinner (the wood-burning BBQ was fantastic! - even my Weber can’t beat this.:)). We grilled the rockcods and lingcods that we caught out in the water during the day; the larger ones were almost 3 feet in size - special thanks to our kids for fishing out at the deck and catching enough shiners for catching larger fish. Lastly, hiking the Skookumchuk Narrows trail was a rewarding experience because we were stunned by such dramatic currents and standing waves - white head eagles flying over the water added to the viewing intensity. I also much appreciated the quality of kind attention we received from the host, the large back yard great for badminton and volleyball, and the general store we walked to for cold beers and ice cream every day.
We certainly look forward to a return visit!
Breathtaking view of mountains and water! Private dock. Kids could fish out there all day. Comfortable and clean acoommodations. We did so much: went out fishing, went for boat rides, saw seals and eagles, s'mores at the fire pit every night while stargazing, meals on the balcony, hiking, badminton, hot tub. What a way to spend a summer weekend!
What an unbelievable place where the Iphone doesn't buzz and the blackberry stays silent.Waking up to the sunlight glistening off the water and into the cabin is phenomenal. The photos don't do it justice- way better live. Bring your fishing pole and catch some rock cod off the dock. The cabin was clean and you had everything- hot tub, fire pit, bbq, big deck and lots of room. There is a pretty cool hiking trail called snookamachuck or something nearby. Definitely great for families or a bunch of friends. Hard to find vacation rentals that have it all- this place did.
