This is rural France at its best! The Gers, where people live longer, is endowed with clear unpolluted skies, little traffic, friendly people, a temperate climate and a variety of fresh country produce found in the daily village markets. The area is renowned for its duck, foie gras and Armagnac and during the summer there are many festivals such as Jazz at Marciac, Country and Western at Mirande, Tempo Latino at Vic-Fezensac, bullfighting and horse racing.
There is always something to see and do in the area from visiting medieval bastide villages (this is D'Artagnan country), beautiful landscapes, wine and Armagnac tasting, collecting antiques, riding, walking and cycling to just lazing by the pool on a hot summer's afternoon with a glass of fresh local wine!
Le Vieux Presbytère is a 2 hour drive from Biarritz and the wonderful long, sandy beaches of the Atlantic. The Pyrenees are also 2 hours drive and have good, challenging skiing in the winter and wonderful alpine summer walks
