Villa Eleni is a self catering villa about 3km outside the harbour area of Ag Galini in South Crete. Close to local uncrowded beaches, the villa has three bedrooms (two doubles and one with bunk beds), and open plan living area with vaulted ceilings and superb beautiful views across the bay of Messara. AirCon is provided as is heating for the winter. The lounge area boasts an open log fire in winter. TV is provided. The pool and garden are secluded. South Crete is a great location for the more peaceful 'get away from the crowds' type holiday or those looking for natural scenery, historic sites or uncrowded beaches. the historical sites of Faestos, Ag triada and Gortys are very close as is the town of Spili with its roman fountains. Sailing and diving are close by in Ag Galini. This are is renowned for dolphins and the historical story of Icarus and Daedelus. Villa Eleni is very secluded, not overlooked and has excellent facilities. A car is required.

Just outside Ag Galini, a beautiful small harbour on the south side of Crete, Villa Eleni is well placed to visit local historical sites of Faestos, Ag Triada, Matala, Gortys and the town of Spili. The local town has facilities to rent cars, bikes and boat trips along the coast, or to view dolphins. There is plentiful shopping in Ag Galini which has bars, restaurants and a beach. Local beaches also include Pavlos, Ag Gorgios, Matala, Komos and Triopterra and also some not marked on any map! Tours to the Samaria Gorge and to Knossos can be booked in the town at many tourist offices. The town also has a post office, chemists, a doctors surgery and statues to Icarus and Daedelus. For the summer of 2009 there is a sailing school set up run by an English couple, and it is planned to have a diving school also in 2009. Just south of Psiloritis, the highest mountain in Crete (which remains snow covered well into May), Villa Eleni is well placed for relaxing away from mass tourism.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Whilst dates are flexible, the weekly rate will apply pro-rata. A security deposit of £100 (or euro equivalent) per booking is required which will be returned after the holiday. All expenses for wood, petrol for the back-up generator, breakages etc will be taken out of the deposit unless paid for locally to the housekeeper or replaced directly.
    A surcharge will apply to Easter and Greek Easter week-ends.
    A 25% deposit is required on booking, and the remainder 6 weeks before the start date.

  • Please note that payments in Euro will be at the exchange rate of £1 = €1.2 regardless of exchange rate.

  • Internet acess - there are hotels and restaurants with both wireless LAN and also Internet cafes available in Ag Galini. The local post office also has a computer that can be used for internet access. Cosmote, the local telephone provider, also confirms that GPRS is available locally, but 3G is not due for a year of so.

There are two bathrooms, one downstairs with a bath and shower, and one upstairs which is a shower only.

Further details for this vacation villa rental in Agia Galini, Greece

Flights: You can book flights direct to Crete with most of the major holiday airlines, or Olympic (Heathrow and Manchester) or Aegean Airways (Heathrow) via Athens. Easy Jet fly from Gatwick and Manchester. Charter flights from the UK arrive Saturdays or Tuesdays and we will be flexible to starting a booking on a Tuesday, however we may not be able to accommodate you if there are bookings either side of you starting at the week-end. If this is the case, and you would still like to use Villa Eleni, contact us and we will see if there is local hotel space available for the additional days. You will require a car to get to the Villa. This can be rented from either Heraklion or Chania airports. We recomend a 4x4 in the early and late seasions. We advise, however, taking the additional tyre and underside insurance for cars whichever car rental company you choose. Roads in Crete can be a little rough at times! This will add approx Euro 7 per day.

Bar B Q: Due to the dryness of the surrounding countryside, BBQs are not currently permitted at the request of the local council.

Safety and environment: Please be aware it is your responsibility to ensure safety in and around the pool area. Please also be aware that the local villages are a farming community. There are sheep and goats grazing on the hillsides. Please keep the gate to Eleni closed at all times to keep the animals away from the gardens. The pool is checked twice a week by the housekeeper.
