Private wing of a luxury château rental with swimming pool

This charming private tower of the magnificent 15th Century Chateau St Laurent can be exclusively hired for groups of up to 10. The 7 hectare estate is situated in the foothills of the Cevennes and even has its own private beach area on the river with waterfall that guests are free to swim in.

The main garden of Chateau St Laurent leads out from the chateau sitting room and contains a substantial dining terrace, overlooking the pond and set against the backdrop of a stunning vista of the surrounding countryside.

We can arrange airport pick-ups, cleaning, baby-sitting and cooking to any level of service to suit your needs. The chateau has its own private pool and swimming is also available in the river below the chateau via the private beach area.

Interior and Grounds:

The property is a private tower that makes up part of a very large chateau that has been divided up in to separate buildings, each of which is totally private with its own personal garden and terrace. There is shared access to the rest of the estate including the river and waterfall. The property is equipped to sleep up to ten guests with space to add additional beds if needed.

The fully furnished kitchen comes with washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer etc. The expansive sitting room and dining area is situated next to the kitchen on one side and on the other is the enormous rear terrace that seats 12 guests comfortably and overlooks the river and surrounding countryside. The living room comes complete with TV, DVD player, VCR and sound system.

There are two big double bedrooms, two “lovers” bedrooms with single beds that are comfortable enough for two (both rooms have wash basins), two twin bedrooms and additional beds and sofas that are available for younger guests if necessary. All the bedrooms overlook the fountain and hills with two looking onto the magnificent waterfall. The tower also has three bathrooms and two separate WCs.

Outside in the garden there is a private swimming pool. In addition, a path through the grounds leads down to a private beach area that overlooks the river (great to swim in) and waterfall. There is also a forest of palm trees, the Cevennes national park, a typical French garden and plenty of outdoor parking with space for one car under cover. A tennis court and football pitch can be found just a 2 minute walk away.

The setting and ambience of the chateau was an absolute delight and the scenery, especially from the terrace, was stunning. It was an area of France that we did not know well and we much enjoyed the various trips to the surrounding villages, markets and sights. Sima was attentive, gracious, and gave good local advice as well as providing stimulating company on occasions! She was kind and generous to us all and provided extra presents for our grandchildren, including an inflatable to play on in the pool and on the river. The three generations of family (10 months - 70 years) were well catered for in terms of provision and the swimming, both in the pool and in the Vis was a real bonus, as were the internal living areas and the spacious terrace.







The overall ambience of the chateau was simply wonderful but, during our stay, some minor concerns became apparent and we did mention some of these to Sima. Curtain hangings in the bedrooms often fell from insecure fittings; the quality of the bedding ranged from exotic in the main bedrooms to others that were less luxurious. As is usual in France, in our experience, bathroom facilities were somewhat strange and the otherwise high quality of the establishment could do with a further full bathroom.



Overall, this was a really good holiday; perhaps on the pricey side but nonetheless a bit special.

The nearest airports are Montpellier and Nimes which are both 50km from the ch??teau. The nearest town is Ganges 5 km away and the village of St Laurent le Minier is within walking distance.

Fresh bread and croissants can be picked up from the local village within walking distance. A fishing permit can be obtained from the nearby town of Ganges, which also holds a twice-weekly market. The local tennis court is 400m from the property.

The south coast is only 50km away with its splendid beaches and picturesque villages including Sommieres, with its Saturday morning market, Les Matelles, les Saintes-Maries de la Mer, Saint-Martin, Uzes, Aigues Mortes, Anduze, Saint Guilhem le Désert and endless other places of interest!

For the avid explorers who can face leaving the idyllic surrounds of the property for a day trip, there are numerous nearby festivals, villages, sports events and cultural attractions. Carcassonne, Montpellier, Le Pont du Gard and Nimes are all short drives away.

Tasting tours to local vineyards can be arranged, such as the Pic St. Loup or Gres de Montpellier. The region is also renowned for its delectable truffles. 30km away is a golf course and there are almost daily traditional markets to explore.

Good cities to visit for a day are Nimes, Besiers and Avignon and during the ski season, Mont Igual attracts plenty of snow sports enthusiasts.
