Wonderful Views; Beautiful Home; Idyllic Natural Setting

  • 5 of 5
Our two-week stay was too short! Even the ferry ride from Anacortes was memorable. At the property the two of us felt like we were in a wooded Garden of Eden. Every day we spent time on the deck looking at the serene waters of Mud Bay (what a misnomer!). We saw deer, bald eagles, too many robins to count, chipmunks, a minx, gorgeous skies, and the most memorable up-close collection of trees we've ever seen. (Can you tell we live in a big city!?). When we could tear ourselves away from the magnificent views, we wandered around this charming island. We visited the independent bookshop, two FULL-service groceries, the Lopez Island Vineyard tasting room, a fudge shop (delicious!), the very well-organized city dump and recycling center, even the Chamber of Commerce office! Don't miss the short but positively lovely walk to Watmough Bay. The only bad thing about staying here is that we had to leave!

A wonderful relaxing week

  • 5 of 5
We were hoping for a relaxing week and that is exactly what we got. The house is spacious, clean and very private nestled in amongst the trees and with access to a small beach below. It was just my husband, my baby and I so we had a lot of extra room in which to move around. The view from the living room and deck is spectacular and with the nice summer weather we had we were able to eat outside which was a real treat. We did not have bikes so a car is a must if you want to see the island. We went on a daily hike to some beautiful areas - Iceburg Point and Shark Reef Park being our favorites. The people on the island are all very friendly and Lopez Village was a quaint place to stock up on groceries, have a coffee and a bite to eat. We ate at the house to take advantage of the BBQ (but be sure to buy charcoal when you arrive since it is not a gas grill). Thanks for a wonderful time!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Had a wonderful time at this property for 5 nights with my family (wife and 2 daughters, age 7 and 9). The property was exceptionally clean and well maintained. A recent remodel made the home feel like new, and the views of Mud Bay were outstanding, from the deck, the living room, or the hot tub. The property was extremely secluded and private. Never heard or even saw the neighbors house.

The pictures do not do the property justice, we plan on re-visiting the property again. The home owner is very responsive and courteous, and quick to answer questions.

If you have never visited Lopez Island, strongly recommend it for someone wishing to decompress. It is a very quiet and romantic island with lots of time for bike riding, hiking, and exploring. There are not a ton of restaurants on the island (there are a few), so we chose to take advantage of the kitchen and charcoal BBQ grill for plenty of home cooked meals and watch the eagles fly overhead. You will need a car to get to and from the property unless you are an avid bicyclist. There are a few large hills and the home is on the South end of the island - away from the so-called traffic.

Be prepared to wave at every driver, after all its' the friendly island....and when in 'town' visit Isabel's Coffee shop for a great latte' and company.

This house was large and comfortable with beautiful views. From the deck we viewed several bald eagles (every day for a week) and deer and otter visited the backyard. The kitchen was well-appointed (something not often found in rentals) which made it a joy to cook. The grill out back was large and easy to use. If we come back to Lopez, we would rent here again.

A month on Lopez

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I spent a magical month on Lopez Island in a wonderful house overlooking Mud Bay. The house is beautiful, clean and well maintained. Lester (the owner), was always available by phone, and has a local property manager ready to handle any problems, of which there were none. We came without a car, being dedicated bicyclists, and that worked out fine for us. Lopez is a rider's dream, with beautiful, quiet roads and courteous drivers. The house, however, is up a steep hill and located about 12 miles from Lopez Village, so one needs to be fairly hard-core to be "car-free"!
The house is large, with plenty of room for a big family. Our daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren spent a weekend with us, and all had a great time. Lopez Island is an incredible place to explore, hike, bicycle, kayak, or just relax. During the off-season, some of the businesses are closed, but it is very peaceful, and that's what we wanted. If you prefer more activity, cultural events, and sunshine, come during the summer. But any time of year, the "big city" of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, as well as the other Islands, are a short, pleasant, ferry ride away.
Staying at Lester's house was an unforgetable experience, allowing us to almost feel like locals, living in this special place.

Our family spent a week at this property and had a wonderful time. The owner was extremely accommodating and very helpful. We were the second or third occupants since the remodel and we were very very impressed with how clean the house was. We arrived late on a sunday night and were welcomed to a relaxing view of "Mud Bay" through a beautiful set of windows. The area is very quiet, no traffic, and we hardly saw another person in the surrounding area for almost a week. The kitchen was great, with the range being the only exception (the oven temperature was unreliable and the back left stove burner did not work. However this is a minor issue that didn't ruin our stay). The deck is the place to hang out...don't miss the bald eagle that visits a perch near the water!! The hot tub was fabulous, the master bedroom (with view) was great, the small beach below the house was neat. Our whole experience was more than we expected. Thank you again for a great stay.
