About Jon Conner

We are a family of five that live in the SF Bay Area.

Jon Conner purchased this house in 2000

Why Jon Conner chose Tahoe City

We bought this house in 2000 when we moved to Asia. I have spent my whole life vacationing or living in Tahoe and I wanted my kids to have a place to go in the summers. The key to Tahoe in the summer is having access to the Lake and Tahoe Park has a private homeowners beach with two piers, tons of grass, playgrounds, basketball courts, horsewhoes and barbues and picnic tables. Also, you can access hiking, biking and many other great activities eithe right out your fornt door or a short drive away. But if you don't want to drive, no problem, you never have to leave the neighborhood. Just let the kids catch crawdads on the pier while you read on your kindle at the beach! You are walking distance to everything you need for a few days and only a couple of miles from town for bigger things.

What makes this house unique

We chose this house in this neighborhood for several reasons. The lot is completely flat and the few blocks around us offer some great room for kids to ride bikes or run around. I love sitting on the front porch in the morning drinking tea and reading the paper. At night we sit on the back porch and enjoy the barbecued dinner while the kids cook smores at the firepit. In the winter, the large stone fireplace provides warmth for domino games.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey, I thought I would write this review because we don't have any yet because we have not been renting this house out via VRBO until this summer. I spent the last 3 weekends at the house. Over the last year, we have spent almost $40,000 on improvements. We added a covered back porch, a new laundry room, brand new gas barbecue and a brand new back and front yard where we cook smores! Check out the pictures! This is a great summer property. If you want to go up, park the car and hang out you can do it from here. There is small grocery store, great take out or eat in dinner from Spoons around the corner. Sunnyside lodge is right next to the private homeowners beach and the best breakfast is next to Sunnyside at Firesign. Great mountain biking and hiking lies just outside the door.

Loved this cabin

  • 5 of 5
We loved the location, yard ( awesome ) fire pit was perfect, along with out side dining area. Comfortable beds and linens. Kitchen had what you would need to get the job done.
Really nothing negative ( quite a few light blubs out ) just replaced them as we saw them. Not a big deal...Coffee maker was great. Side note how do you like the Nest thermostat We are considering getting one ?

Thanks we will be back..

P.s. perfect yard for a hot tub :)

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
A perfect vacation home for our family of five. The home was great with plenty of space for us & all the needed amenities included. The neighborhood is quiet & it's an easy walk to the beach. The backyard was great from BBQs, to dinners on the patio, to relaxing at the fire pit roasting marshmellows, to playing sporting games on the lawn. The home is close to walking/cycling paths, equipment rentals, restaurants & grocery store. The owner is easy to work with & very responsive. We had a great time & we look forward to returning next summer.

We stayed for a week in this quaint cabin and for the most part had a great time. We had family staying in the cabin next door and in the Hurst cabin up the street. The cabin fit our needs as far as space goes and we were especially drawn to the outdoor spaces because we shared the cabin with our daughter, son-in-law and grandsons who loved the yards. Having the fire pit for roasting marshmallows for s'more with the whole family was a big hit!

A few areas for improvement would be some of the things mentioned by the three-star commenter. The carpets are in very bad shape. I realize they get constant wear but it would almost keep me from returning. I also removed all of the slipcovers and washed them when we arrived because there were very dirty. A second set might help so that they could be swapped out. I fixed the chain on the toilet flapper so that it no longer catches but it was broken when we checked in. A lint catcher for the dryer is needed for the deck as it blows lint everywhere. What happened to the door to the laundry room that is in the picture? Without it, it's pretty noisy all the time when doing laundry.

In the living areas there are no table lamps, only the bright overhead lights. It would be nice to be able to have lamps on to lower the lighting in the room. We brought our own coffee maker because of all of the comments we've read about the 4-cup coffee maker.

Also, there was no blind on one of the windows in the bedroom with the bunk beds which made it hard to put the little ones down for a nap.

Overall, we had a great vacation in your cabin and we had a lot of fun! I'm still giving four stars because your yards are awesome and your cabin was very well stocked! Thank you!

Owner's Response: Shelley and Kevin,
I am so glad that you enjoyed the outdoor space, it has been an emphasis of mine and part of the reason there is not a door between the laundry room and kitchen. The laundry room and covered porch are actually remodeled after the picture with the dutch door was taken. It was a result of the big winter in 2009 (I think) which tore the old laundry room off the house. When we rebuilt it, and we added the cover porch, we debated about having a door in between the kitchen and laundry room. Your comments are helpful and we have also been leaning towards putting one in for the same noise reason you highlight.

The carpet is actually only a few years old, but gets a lot of wear and tear. I had them steamed cleaned this last weekend once reading your comments and we had a 24 hour window for the first time this summer.

The rest of your checklist will now be on our checklist of things too address.

Thanks for staying with us and we will continue to improve the property. Again, the outside which you enjoyed so much has been the focus for the last few years.

Now we will focus on the inside.

Practically perfect

  • 5 of 5
Great place for a family - close enough to the lake to easily get back and forth, walking or biking. The house is relatively small but is laid out pretty well and allowed everyone their own space if they needed it. On a nice day, the yard really expands the amount of space as well. Location good for quick store runs as needed, too. We had a great time and hope to be back sometime. Thanks!

Cute place, has potential

  • 3 of 5
The house was cute, the backyard was nice. However, the house was not clean. The carpets, especially in the downstairs living area were filthy. The BBQ was also very dirty and greasy (the side tables). The back deck was covered in lint from the dryer vent when we arrived. The upstairs bathroom shower stall had mold on the tiles. There were also some maintenance issues: the chain in the downstairs toilet kept getting caught in the flapper so the toilet would run continuously. Also we could not get two burners on the kitchen stove to work. We also did not use the dishwasher as it was very old and looked like it would fall apart if we tried to open the door. One of the window blinds in the living room had the wand missing, so no way to open the blinds without raising them completely. I would suggest leaving an "exit form" for guests to complete to alert the owner of maintenance items. I do think the house has potential to be a great rental, great location, great yard, but needs to keep up on maintenance items and monitor the cleaning company's work.

Owner's Response: Nancy, I think your suggestion about exit form is a great one. Most of the issues you highlight are a result of high demand this summer which has not allowed us to get maintenance people in there. We will try to get someone in there this weekend where we have a 24 hour window to steam clean the carpets. The BBQ and back deck have not previously been an item for our cleaning people but we will ask them to add that to their list. The dishwasher is old but works pretty well, but perhaps we should replace that in any case. The burners work but sometimes when cleaned get disconnected. I had the toilet fixed but the problem must have come back and the blinds were okay at the beginning of summer. As you can see from all the other ratings on the site, yours is the only 3 star as opposed to 5. We will try to get these items sorted asap so we don’t see another 3 again!

Girls getaway

A great big Thank you! We arrived and felt at home and everything was as discribed! We already recommend you. We only have one observation - a larger coffeemashine to fit the needs of 4 to 5 people would be great!

Owner's Response: Thanks for writing Susanne, I have been debating a larger coffee maker or a single serve machine. I kind of want to go single serve as it allows for more flexibility. Enjoy the rest your summer!
