We describe the vacation rental house located on West 10th Street, Saint George Island (SGI) as off the beaten path but close to the water because it is located on an interior lot one lot north of the primary East/West road that runs the length of the SGI. It is only 2.5 short blocks from the Gulf Front and 1long block from a Bay Front park. The house, built on pilings, has 4 bedrooms (sleeps 10), 2 bathrooms, central open living/dining room and kitchen. The house has 1624 square feet (SF) of heated and cooled living space, 224 SF covered screened porch off two of the bedrooms (one has a king bed and the other has two sets of bunk beds for children), 792 SF deck facing the street which the third bedroom (queen bed) opens on and the fourth bedroom (queen bed) opens onto a smaller 112 SF back deck. There is also a 10 by 28 foot boat or motorhome storage area under the house with about an 11 foot clearance. There is ample off street parking for four or more vehicles.

About Cliff Butler

Cliff has visited the area since his early childhood, first visiting St. George Island shortly after the bridge opened in 1965. He and Denise had their first date on the coast and relocated to the area in 1977 buying a bay front home across the bridge in Eastpoint. Their two daughters grew up enjoying the Island and the surrounding area. Throughout their professional lives, both Denise and Cliff have been active in many aspects of community life in this bit of heaven nicknamed, 'The Forgotten Coast'. As Denise likes to say, 'It was never the Forgotten Coast to us, it's home!'

Why Cliff Butler chose St George Island

The opportunity and benefits of owning a vacation rental home on St George Island came together at the right time as we were starting a new phase of our lives. It gives us the opportunity to share what we have enjoyed for so many years with our children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and others we have yet to meet. We plan to use a share of the profits to support nonprofits such as Rotary, Wounded Warrior Project and related organizations.

What makes this house unique

Observing gorgeous sunrises, sunsets as well as other related weather events are some of the most unique benefits that can be enjoyed while staying at our property. There are many other opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of our area from the beaches to our bay, river and forests. It's fun to watch all the creatures that make their home here. You do not need to even leave the deck to listen to and watch birds or to find the constellations in the night sky. No city lights dim the stars on the island. The home is newly tiled throughout. Open the windows on cool nights and listen to the surf!

Great trip to St. George at Last Starw

Overall we had a great time and would definitely come back and stay at this house. Close walk to the beach, short drive to island center of activity.

Only a couple of things I would suggest to owner:
1. The front deck railing is loose and parts of it feel like may come loose if someone leans on it
2. Update some of the fixtures / appliances. They all function, but could use updating. (Hall Bath lighting, oven)

Upon our arrival, the home was not clean from the prior rental. Apparently there was some sort of confusion between the owner and the cleaner about the date of our arrival. Once we reached the cleaner, he came right over and by the time we were finished eating dinner out, the house was clean. Kudos to him, he got a lot done in a short period, the prior renters did not leave it in good shape.

After that issue was fixed, we got to settle in and had a wonderful time. There is plenty of room and our party of 6 (7 for part of the week) had plenty of room and space to sleep. We had 6 adults and 1 child.

Kitchen has lot of storage if you bring your own stuff and is well stocked with necessary prep items (pots, pans, cookware, utensils, etc...) and dishes/glasses.

I was surprised to have people staying in a small apt below. Didn't realize this was two properties when I rented it. Was not an issue at all, just surprised me. I think they left the day after we arrived.

This home is a short walk to the beach (less than 5 minutes at a VERY leisurely pace). The beaches were not crowded at all which is exactly what we wanted during our spring break trip. We might see 20 people on the beach at same time as us (on a busy day) and were all spread out - very nice, quiet and relaxing.

Deck is huge and great for hanging out and playing games or having a drink. If it gets too hot, there is also a covered/screened porch off two of the bedroms but also accessible from the main deck. It does have a gate at the steps. We thought we may bring our pets next time and let them hang out on the porches.

This was our first trip to St. George. Overall a great place, a great home and a great trip at a great price.

Close side trips we made were to Appalachicola, Wakulla Springs, Alligator Point, Carabelle & Panacea.

We highly recommend The Last Straw - I'm sure we will be back some time in the future.

Great Family Vacation!

Great home for a large family (2 adults and 5 kiddos!). Was very comfortable for all of us. Well equipped, especially in the kitchen. Charcoal grill out back. Good TVs and DVD player for a rainy day, plus some games etc. Less than five minute walk to the beach, and the beach is beautiful and not crowded at all. Owner is very responsive and does everything that they can to make sure everything is OK for you. Only complaint is that the cleaning service could do a better job when they come through before your checkin....we had to do some touching up on a few things. Definitely overall an incredible bang for your buck for a great family vacation!

We had a wonderful week-end at The Last Straw! It was perfect for our family of 9. We were there to attend a wedding, so we didn't get to relax and enjoy the house and beach totally. The house was clean, and had everything we needed for a great week-end. We were very satisfied and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.

We had a wonderful time...Your house accomedated my family of 10 great.This house is very open beds were clean overall I will be staying again.. My grandsons thought it was great to play the corn hole game and all the board games when it rained. I recommend this house for all ages and all families.
