Ski ing in Bansko:
Bansko is an excellent ski location, whatever your experience or ability, with 70 km of pistes covering all degrees of difficulty.
The slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers and will suit both beginners and experts. (About 35% are blue, 40% red and 25% black.) For the more able there are slalom and giant slalom slopes and a three-mile cross-country track. Some of the pistes also offer wonderful conditions for night skiing, available from 18.30 until 21.30. There are additional snowboarding facilities at Balkans Fun Park, which offers bumps, jumps and a half-pipe. And if that’s not enough, how about taking a skidoo ride or trying out your ice skating skills?
The area is especially welcoming to families. There are great facilities for children, with ski-kindergartens for kids with new drags and a child-friendly ski run. There’s even a Junior Club with three baby drags and a Wonder Carpets baby track.
Bansko:
For half the year Bansko is a ski resort, but for the rest of the time the area is a superb summer holiday location. You can enjoy a huge number of activities, including trekking, riding and white water rafting in outstanding natural beauty.
The town of Bansko is a unique mixture of old traditions and modern style. New-built hotels and apartment houses are separated from more than 100 years old ethnographic houses by just a tiny, stone paved street. The town centre is a listed World Heritage Site and the clock tower has measured the time for over 150 years. With their famous hospitality and friendliness the people of Bansko make their guests remember the time spent here.
Summer in Bansko:
There are many excursions you may enjoy visiting the Rila Monestery being one and enjoying the historical scenery and exploring the history. Also a traditional Bulgarian night with dancing and scrumptious food can be enjoyed too. Ognianova, visit the natural spring or Belitsa a bear resort.
Enjoy the fantastic views hiking through the mountains. Visit the Skaklya Waterfall in the village of Bov, the highest in Bulgaria with a drop of 130 metres.
Visit the town Melnik and see the remains of a Slav fortress or the St Nikola Church built in the 18th century. Rezhen Monastery whilst getting there from Melnik you will pass impressive sandstone cliffs in the vague shape of pyramids.
