To enable us to maintain our high standards of house-keeping we suggest arrival time at the villa 4pm and departure time 10am - although, depending on bookings, these times may be flexible.
GUEST COMMENTS: A peaceful and ideal place to explore W Crete. You've thought of everything. Thanks for the instructions to the Villa which got us there easily although the roads take a bit of getting used to! Samaria Gorge was fantastic and more spectacular than remembered. You've loads of different sitting places/balconies to choose from which is really nice-you can follow the sun/shade as you wish. The White mountains views from your house are really great.'
'Thank you for the use of the villa last week. We had a lovely time and enjoyed being in Almyrida again. We shall certainly be recommending the villa to everyone we know, thanks again.'
'Probably the best holiday ever!'
'What a wonderful time we had. The villa was even better than it seemed in the pictures. The views were simply breathtaking. We were enormously lazy for the week but never tired of enjoying the lovely environment. The personal/thoughtful touches made the stay even better. We'll be back.
Myself, husband and teenage daughter have just returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday, the Villa was spotlessly clean in a fantastic location. We loved the small intimate feeling of Almyrida with the locals being very attentive and helpful, It was great to see there were no Theme bars or "Irish pubs" placed here for the Brits and the food was well cooked and plentiful. We were expecting to eat out every other night, with the prices in the restaurants we ate out every evening and most breakfasts. We soon got use to receiving desert and a bottle of Raki "on the house" at all locations. Eating at Chania is far more expensive but a very nice place to visit. Due to the locals not currently trusting the local banks most places in Almyrida do not take credit or Debit cards but there is a ATM in the village. I cannot state how lovely this location is and Mark gave us great advise as to the beaches to visit.
Thank you for a wonderful time
We have just returned from a fabulous holiday at the wonderfully equipped and maintained Marians. The villa more than lived up to our expectations and was even lovelier than the photos suggested! We loved the variety of seating areas and tried to make use of all of them! The spacious and excellently equipped kitchen inspired me to cook - a very rare occurrence on holiday! John and Janet were both welcoming and helpful. Although we have been to Western Crete several times John was able to suggest some places to visit and even loaned us his road atlas! We enjoyed our trip to Margarites and I love the salt shaker! If this is your first visit to Western Crete you will find a wealth of information on places of interest and excursions in the villa. The only problem we had was tearing ourselves away from the villa and the pool. The garden and pool area are so pretty and quiet and the pool is so inviting. We loved the green, reclining lounger but so did a rather persistent dragonfly (Donnie).
We enjoyed all the restaurants in Almirida but must give a special mention to the warm welcome and the Brian we enjoyed in 'Lagos' (hare) (walk down the the Pear Tree and turn leftand you will see the taverna) and the enormous Thalami special salad. Further afield Koumos (near Kalives) is always worth a vist for the views and the buildings. We love the Maple Tree in Armenoi especially at dusk when the sheep return home.
The beach at almirida is clean and the sea is shallow and warm but it can get crowded. Other good beaches can be found in Kalives and Georgioupoli. There is also a swimming pool in Georgioupoli which is open to the public. Eleana's Deli Bar in Georgioupoli is great for snacks, freshly squeezed orange juice and frappe with ice cream!
The only thing we would change about our holiday is the length of it. Two weeks at Marian's just wasn't long enough! So next year ...
We recently had a fantastic stay at Marians, which was extremely well equipped & maintained to a very high standard, also very convenient for all the local facilities. Our dealings with Brabara (Owner), John (Caretaker) & Janet (Cleaner) from booking to arrival was perfect, with special thanks to John who was a fountain of knowledge regarding the local area, Janet for being so accomodating & Barbara for her advice & help prior to the visit. We had no particular favoured taverna, as all were of a very hight standard & only a few minutes walk from the villa. The villa proved to be the perfect place for exploring the rest of Western Crete and we would recommend a visit to Samaria Gorge & Gramvousa Island. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villa to any of our friends or family, if they wish to have the perfect holiday on this beautiful island.

What can i say about this gorgeous villa. Stunning, friendly and perfect. I stayed for a week with my daughter (16) and it couldn't have been better. Close enough to the sea for a lovely evening stroll to Nikita's for the best cocktails, a walk in the morning to the bakery and a stop off at francine's for a lovely pancake and far enough away from everything to be peaceful. It makes you feel as if it was your own personal house (i wish!). John was great and very helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Whay can I say about this , the island, the resort & the villa are amazing.
The owner, is fabulous, friendly and very helpful.
John ,his family and friends who look after the villa are great, again friendly and very helpful, they make your holiday go very smoothly.
The villa is superb, modern, bright and airy, beautifully equipped, modern comfy furniture, large dining table, great kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. All rooms are a good size, Outside there are a variety of areas to sit , dine and relax. Very pretty planting, and a play area to the side for the children. The pool is lovely, but be careful of the metal steps, they are very narrow and can be slippery.. The pool is the same depth all round.
In the resort, the beach is sandy, and the sea is shallow to quite away out, and such an azure blue !.
The resort has a large number of restaurants and tavernas, all of which serve great food and drink. I can recommend Sirrocos for a great breakfast, sipping cocktails watching the sun go down.
We so enjoyed our holiday, that we have booked again for 2011.
The Batemans & The Osbornes
The holiday home (Marians in Almyrida) was a very nice holiday villa. It was close to the beach and village with all facilities needed for a good vaccation. We rented both cars, moped and bikes in the village and had a good look around. The villa and the surroundings helped us to get the best holiday ever. We can strongly reccommend hiring Villa Marians to anyone.
