Tenmile House takes its name from nearby Tenmile Creek, one of the cleanest, clearest streams on the Oregon Coast. Tenmile House was recently remodeled to make it a comfortable place for extended family gatherings. With three full bedrooms, two bunk beds, and two bathrooms, there’s room for siblings with children and the grandparents, too. A large second-floor bedroom offers privacy as well as generous views of the ocean. A spacious deck offers afternoon sunshine and ocean views. A woodstove in the living room warms the common area, where large windows provide views of the ocean, old-growth forests and the historic Tenmile Creek bridge, a beautiful round arch that rises out of the landscape like a giant sculpture.
A quarter mile of sandy beach is just a five minute walk from Tenmile House at Stonefield State Wayside, a little-used state park known for the agates that can be found among the beach cobbles. Sea lions, seals, and river otters can be seen early in the morning searching for breakfast in the surf. Eagles often nest in the big, old trees along the ridge just south of the creek and may be heard screeching as they soar high above the beach. Tidepools at the south end of the beach offer endless opportunities for exploring.
Tenmile House is sandwiched between two federally protected Wilderness Areas that offer solitude among towering Douglas firs and Sitka spruces, some of the biggest, oldest trees on the Oregon Coast. Cummins Creek Wilderness encompasses some 9,400 acres to the north and Rock Creek Wilderness preserves an additional 7,400 acres to the south. Some of the trees in these preserves are more than 9 feet in diameter, and they are some of the finest examples of the temperate rainforest that cloaked much of the Oregon Coast before European settlement. The Rock Creek Wilderness is also home of the rare Oregon silverspot butterfly.
Make Tenmile House your base for exploring the natural beauty of Oregon’s Central Coast.
