Megala Horafia is a charming Cretan village, the centre of the Megala Horafia is made up of the village hall, two excellent tavernas, mini market, a kafenion and a church. The houses in this village are spread on two hilltop ridges, offering excellent views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains. The eastern side leads to the archaeological site of Aptera with its Roman, Minoan and Turkish remains which you can visit.
Megala Horafia is handy for Chania and Souda to the West, for shops, eating, sightseeing, etc. and for Heraklion and Knossos to the East. Central Chania is less than 30 minutes drive from Megala Horafia.
Inland are many other villages for exploring and good walking countryside, including Stilos - a shady riverside village, and Malaxa - high on the mountain, perfect for watching sunsets over Chania and the Cretan Sea.
